If Fury can be arsed he's the best heavy weight for a long time. He's big, agile, can take a punch and can give one. Theres a reason Haye, Chisora and Klitchko dodged him for so long. The best version of Tyson clears up the entire division in 12 months. The worst version of Tyson is off his nut on coke, depressed and 30 stone.

Can't argue with too much of that. Fancy Fury against Wilder and Parker, but think the Joshua fight could go either way.

  2. Crolla talking about moving up in weight to have a pop at Burns.

Haye thinks he will be fit to fight again come November.

The two Liams have an interesting looking fight coming up.

Congrats to Sal Yufei at the lower weights.

Looking forward to Box Nation / BT kicking in with some decent fights over the next few months.

  3. Lets hope Hughie wins against Parker. ;) Two Fury world champs will cheer everyone up.

I know he got dropped against Cunningham in the 2nd round. But then inflicted his first ever stoppage in round 7.

When Fury beat Cunningham he became IBF mandatory, 7th with Box Rec, 6th with the WBC, 5th with the WBO, but then lost his place as Haye cancelled on him twice. Then the scheduled Chisora fight for the European and British was also a WBO eliminator, but then Chisora cancelled on him with a fractured hand.

Truth be told, Fury lost the best part of year and a half of his career due to Haye and Chisora cancelling fights. Three wasted training camps, paying sparring partners, no income, whilst Haye @#/? him about.

So Fury was mandatory for Klitchko's IBF in April 2013. But fought Klitchko in November 2015.

2 and 1/2 years later! Meanwhile Klitchko fought Pieneta, then Leapai, then Pulev then Jennings instead of Fury. I don't blame him either. Why take on someone as hard to handle as Fury when you can stick to your formula of grab and hold against much smaller blokes with home town judges monitoring it all?

As predicted, once he faced and  fought the bigger guy it all unravelled for Klitchko. Strange how he collapsed mentally as well. Pretty clear as shown above that he didn't fancy any of Fury, at anytime and it showed in his unnatural performance, frightened to death.

Decent fighter Fury. All will be revealed.

Pulled it off v 'the man' but that's been quite common in heavyweight div down history and not many were nearly 40. Before that most of his performances were mediocre as were his fitness levels and his most notable victory was against a rather disinterested Chisora. Apart from that he's beaten no one so the 25 - 0 isn't exactly what it's cracked up to be. He struggled to get past some rather average domestic heavies and blown up cruisers.

Yes his sheer size will obviously always mean he's a handful and as long as he can avoid being smashed on the chin he'll probably remain unbeaten. I've seen signs in him though that a few decent blows and I reckon he'll fold, he's been decked twice and a couple of other times his legs have stiffened and his eyes wide eye almost like Audley. He's never been in a brawl with a proper heavy and if he'd had the rematch he'd have probably had to have another fight or two by now and not against whoever they picked so we'd have a better picture. He'd also never shown much sigh of the rapid light on his toes movement he suddenly was able to conjure up against Wlad, a robotic opponent.

Like I said i'm probably a bit bias because I hare the Fury mob they think they can do whatever they want and fight when they want and i'll file Saunders down in that as well. I've been following HW boxing for about 30 years and although no expert at all he's got it all to prove and in a very moderate era indeed but some just delight in him beating the man, disappearing on the lash the hiding behind this 'lineal champ' rollocks.

My prediction on all this is that he's only showing signs of coming back now because he's convinced Wlad will beat AJ and he'll be eyeing the rematch and more importantly another 10 million cheque. If AJ wins Fury will suddenly lose interest again i'd wager, it's all about the money for him, can't blame him I suppose, for me though he takes the whizz but some just lap it up.

Anyway it's a bit like the Venky debate, until he proves otherwise you'll have him down as the mythical champ and i'll file him with the Akinwande's.

Mythical champ? Lol. You are taking this a tad far. Why do you think Klitchko avoided him for years! Nothing mythical about getting into contention then winning the belts.

Saw a video the other day when Fury was 22. Said he had sparred with Joshua then an amateur aged 20. Said Joshua gave him a going over for a few rounds and predicted he would be one to watch.

Sorry pal not wanting to fall out lol but our opinions vary massively on Fury. Your a bit blinded as far as he's concerned for some reason but that's up to thee.

Guys a jioke from a family of dodgy @#/?s and if he's been bashing the coke chances are he's been on PEDS as well. Got Wlad at the right time then ducked rematch AND any mandatories by going on the @#/? which no doubt added to his mental problems. He's a bum B)

A bit blinded? The guy is undefeated. 25-0.

Until such time as someone gives him a decent fight I'll use my own judgement over those that think he is crap.

Bums don't win Heavyweight titles. I dont get carried away with the personal stuff surrounding Fury, just focus on his ability and skill set. His size alone suggests he would be a handful for most as they always find out.

25 stone by his own admission yesterday so if that's looking good in training i' going to get on the pies lol

The hearing was supposed to be in Feb but it seems to be being kept quiet for some reason although knowing the Fury mob who think they can do anything they please in boxing they probably didn't turn up.

He seems convinced Wlad will beat Joshua and i think it would be all systems go from the Fury camp then as he'll suddenly fancy the rematch and the huge paycheck. Come back maybe repeat the first win against a near 41 yr old, bank his huge cheque then disappear on the razz again not fulfilling any mandatories or voluntaries. Doubt he'll be as keen if joshua batters Klitschko though.

As you can probably gather iv'e not much time at all for the unsavory Fury clan, any of them and until Tyson has been in a few proper fights with other top 6 heavies i'll reserve judgement on him so called being the best. So far he's proved nothing except his style was too awkward for a 39 year old slowing up giant rather robotic champ and until it's confirmed one way or another question marks hang over how he 'prepared' for that fight and got into such good shape.

All just my opinions of course

I will say this though if the PEDS thing proves to be wrong i hope he hangs them out to dry.

25 stone. Tomps the guy is 6 foot 9! When he fights at 18 stone 7 he is stripped right down. He is bound to get heavier between fights, not that I condone his massive beer belly of course.

He has been big for years and no-one has mentioned PEDS. Even now the governing body don't seem to know their ass from their elbow with regards to this. At the moment he is banned for cocaine not PEDS, hearing early in May. (Which confirms he is very unlikely to fight in May as you stated).

Not sure what more Fury could have done thoughout his career. Bitchko avoided him for years forcing him into eliminators, then got his ass whipped on his home turf when they met. Price avoided him, Haye ducked him twice, only Chisora fancied the job and he was easily handled.

At the end of the day the guy is massive and any current heavyweight would have problems with him. We will soon see how poor an ageing Klitchko is when he fights Joshua. Obviously hope Joshua sparks him out as soon as possible but have a funny feeling the fight will surprise one or two, including Joshua.

Meanwhile Fury's trash talk is exactly that. Having listened to Chisora, Whyte, Bellew, Haye, Darry Matthews, Ohara Davies etc lately, it is clear that Fury does nothing that many others believe perfectly acceptable.

Triple G versus Jacobs this weekend is an interesting fight. Jacobs a natural middle who can bang and GGG taking a few shots last time out v Brook. Can't see past Golovkin getting the job done in 6 but he'll meet someone who'll stand up to him sooner or later so this might be a test for him.

Good call Tomps. Jacobs did well and i thought a draw would have been fair.

It’s about boxing teams in and having a shape behind the ball when you have it is as important as when you don’t have it. There’s been a big emphasis on that and a lot of the goals earlier in the season were probably from not being in a good shape and I think the manager has sorted that and it’s something we need to continue with".

Mulgrew with a pretty damning indictment of Coyle's coaching ability and  lack of preparation. It's an absolute disgrace that that charlatan was allowed anywhere near our club, and even worse he was allowed to continue for so long. It makes me *@*$*@*%$@ angry what these clown have done to our club. Some days it just hits you in the gut.

At least we now seem to have a proper football man in charge of the team.

Signs are good so far with Mowbray. Pretty clear the players had totally lost confidence in anything Coyle was trying / not trying. Footballers, if not the brightest academically, do know the game and know what is beneficial / unprofessional. It was obvious they had little respect for the last bloke and zero confidence when the chips were down.

    Good read as always OjW.

Glad Haye got beat, never been a fan, all talk, hype and bluster for me. His performance against Klitch was embarrassing after all his chat beforehand, but he's made a fortune with limited ability and a big mouth, not the first and won't be the last.

Looking forward to AJ's fight with Klitch, think AJ can be the real deal, just hope he doesn't rush things.

Cheers Gav. I was a massive Haye fan before his shenaningans with Fury. Supposedly shoulder damage and a cut eye and bang the fights were off. Was hoping he would win to inject more life into the Heavyweight division. Bellew won't live with the bigger blokes.

I'm not so sure about all that Tomps. A friend operating at middleweight has said that Fury is looking very good in training again. Not heard about the PEDS issue for a while. Any update on all that as it seemingly has been very badly handled.

  10. Well done to the gobby scouser. Deserved to win.

Whyte talking the talk now about fighting Bellew. Don't blame him for thinking Chiosora is a backward step, but would still like to watch a re-run of that again. The other British Heavyweight David Price continued to demonstrate he simply isn't good enough losing again recently

Cannot believe the advice given to Haye, once his Achilles had gone. If I had been in the corner he would have simply fought above his stool and not moved. How are you meant to move around with tendon damage? Either it wasn't as bad as made out, or he suffered pain each round dragging himself around the ring. Should have stayed where he was and called Bellew in.

Big fan of Shane Mcquigan, but can't help feeling he has blotted his copy book the last two fights. Haye shouldn't have fought if struggling with injury and Mcquigan should have insisted. After pulling out of the Fury fight's, Haye probably thought the show must go on with this one. Thougt Mcquigan's tactics in the Frampton / Santa Cruz fight were poor as well.

Talking of Fury, as I am his only fan on here :), hopefully he can come back soon and sort out this division again. Talk of him fighting in May if he gets his license back. If Hughie beats Parker in New Zealand and Tyson can pin Wilder it is all set up for three British Heavyweight Champions, which would be entertaining. Subject to Joshua being able to do what Fury did or better to Klitchko. I wanted Hughie to fight in the UK, but Warren lost the purse bid by £200k, bidding 2.8 million to the successful 3 million.

Talking of lost purse bids, Eddie Hearn missed out on the Callum Smith / Dyrrel fight for the UK. Hearn bid 1.2 and Bob Arum 1.6. Still expect Smith to win that fight, but his opponent is a decent operator. A tad surprised that they went down that route instead of Degales IBF, but they may feel it is an easier fight, even when travelling abroad. Free's up degale to re-visit the Groves rivalry.

Looks like Khan / Pacquiao is off due to financiers withdrawing. It never felt quite right the match-up and came as little surprise when called off.

Brook v Spence should be a good fight and credit to Brook for taking it as he struggles to get down to 147. Supposedly at Brammal Lane.

So when you said "seven points from nine"...?

Read my post and start again. You missed a bit out for some obscure reason.

I said one conceeded from three home games = seven points from nine. Got it this time?

I then said two conceeded from four games which obviously included Burton unless you know of other goals conceeded under Mowbray.

Enough of us told you it wasn't a must win game. Hence we have not been relegated after drawing the fixture.

Blue and Black. Only a total ninkampoop would wear Burnley's colours when representing the Rovers.

I love how the Burton dropped points have now been removed from Mowbray's record. Radio Rovers did the same thing last night.

Unbeaten, and 8 from 12, is very decent considering where we were only two weeks ago. It doesn't need turning into 7 from 9 to sound more impressive or "nearly 9 from 9" as was mentioned last night.

I said we had conceeded two goals in four games.

You explain how that is forgetting about our 'must win' game?

  14. The most pleasing aspect for me of Mowbrays start is goals conceeded. One from three home games and seven points from nine is a good return from what appeared to be very tough looking fixtures under Coyle. Two goals conceeded in four games.

Few would have suggested Mowbray. Someone at the club deserves initial praise for this appointment.

  15. Cracking start. Credit to all concerned. It was clear from the Burton performance that the players had responded and successive home wins have given us some breathing space. We have been in the bottom three all season apart from three weeks. For Mowbray to get seven points from nine is very pleasing as is only one conceeded and two clean sheets. Further highlights the tactical and organisational inability of the last bloke. Couldn't have asked for more and the other clubs down there will be irritated as we looked nailed on to go down. Meanwhile upcoming opponents will know they have a tough game ahead.

Would beg to differ.  To say we will need 50 to 53 points is ridiculous.

Last three seasons, 4th from bottom have had 49, 46 and 44 points respectively.

Looking at the table now, 46 or 47 points would be enough meaning we need 21 or 22 points from our final 19 games.

I think we will just about scrape it.

We are currently achieving less than a point per game. Hard to see where the required improvement will come from. However I agree and think we will scrape survival.

  17. Ah, I've just spoken to an ex colleague of mine who was on the books of Dundee United while Don worked in that city as he lives in Carluke and works for the local council. It almost certainly was Don I saw as he moved up there about 4 or 5 years ago apparently.

I'm annoyed with myself now for not speaking to him as I doubt I'll ever bump into him again as it isn't a town I go to very often.

One of my favourite seasons watching Rovers was the 23 game unbeaten run in 1987/8, not to mention the Full Members Cup final!

We took that many to Stoke they gave us terracing at the side of the pitch. Brilliant days and a very good team to watch.
