Cracking read, if a bit stomach-churning. The garbage these players had to put up with is beyond belief. Who'd have thought Leeds and Millewall fans would be at the forefront  The bigotry still exists, it's just aimed at different people these days.

Tony Finnigan though, don't mess with that lad. He probably needed the machete again after scoring that 30 40 50 60 -yard screamer at the turf!

Jesus, Jordan Slew, I forgot about him. Crazy times.

As for the Portuguesers , if they were on 10,000 a week, I would eat my hat. Why did they leave to mickey mouse leagues for less money so??

I'm not one for some of the conspiracy stuff but I don't doubt for 1 minute we were paying ridiculous wages to anyone and everyone signed when the agents were 'sleeping at Brockhall'. It's in their interests to get the best deals possible for the players, and themselves.  If there is no oversight from the people putting the money in and the CEO has also gone 'rogue' then there are no safeguards.

The club is still paying out historical contracts. The Portuguesers could well be included in those. or they could have had straight pay-offs.

Simon Vukevic was one that Shaw admitted to a couple of years ago, saying people would be astounded by how much he was on, or words to that effect. Cheston even mentions the historic contracts in this interview from last summer:-

     http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/14471425._We_need_to_live_within_our_financial_means___Q_A_with_Blackburn_Rovers_director_Mike_Cheston/

No mention of the 'outstanding candidate' to come.

It seemed a bit excessive at the time seeing as he only had a few games and was probably going from five hundred per week. I was also led to believe it was plus bonuses and on a sliding upward scale so god knows how much it became. Young Adam was quick to tell his former school pals how much he was getting when on the lash regularly, it certainly didn't do him any favours.

Point is if this is the kind of deals they were signing youth up on at the time it won't have helped the wage bill and also will have lumbered the club with a few who nobody else would take when they failed to make the grade here.

Jordan Slew was on 10k. He cost £1m.

It's frightening how much money Kean and Anderson were allowed to waste. The club has paid for it ever since*

    *Yes, I know it's ultimately Venky's fault.

Mowbray needed to be replaced at Middlesbrough in order for them to progress and achieve success so if he thinks Steele is his number one to can get you results then he's a phoney Tony in my book.

Rovers need a top class keeper in the summer .

David de Gea has been linked.

I think its more a message to the Senior and above to get CM tied down and get his contract sorted. It's obvious that TM sees Mahoney as the future of the club, even it is to sell him for a large fee.

Letting him walk for next to nothing to save a wage is very short sighted even by this club's standards.

You could be right but it doesn't seem to read like that:-

"if his talent is good enough then don’t be concerned about things to do with money, because that comes. If you’re good enough and talented enough in this world people throw money at you and you get so much you don’t know what to do with it... Hopefully conversations with his advisers will go well with the club and we will wait and see. "

I think that's very clearly aimed at Connor and Connor's advisers. Which begs the question are the club taking the proverbial with their offer, or are Connor's advisers?

Interesting comments by TM on Mahoney and money. You'd hope they are aimed at Connor's agent and not at Connor. I suppose it also depends what the contract offer from Rovers was.

Not sure if TM should be alluding to this stuff in public though.

  7. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/15149147.___There___s_been_a_big_emphasis_on_that______Charlie_Mulgrew_on_Blackburn_Rovers_becoming_more_organised_under_Tony_Mowbray/?ref=mac

It’s about boxing teams in and having a shape behind the ball when you have it is as important as when you don’t have it. There’s been a big emphasis on that and a lot of the goals earlier in the season were probably from not being in a good shape and I think the manager has sorted that and it’s something we need to continue with".

Mulgrew with a pretty damning indictment of Coyle's coaching ability and  lack of preparation. It's an absolute disgrace that that charlatan was allowed anywhere near our club, and even worse he was allowed to continue for so long. It makes me *@*$*@*%$@ angry what these clown have done to our club. Some days it just hits you in the gut.

At least we now seem to have a proper football man in charge of the team.

Was this the tie in question?

Not sure why I care but I do.:) If you look at the 'dafabet' sign behind his visible right ear then it's red. The one behind his left shoulder looks claret. I presume they are both red. The Sky bet logo is also a different shade depending on the where it is on the walls behind. Could be a light thing and Mowbrays tie could be any dark colour. We may need to call in CSI Blackburn. Or JAL could be right. That dafabet sign really does look claret. They've took over. They're everywhere the B@st@rds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the link there AllRoverAsia.

But I dont believe he is in the loop at all. I said that Senior appears to running all football operations like his job title is.

Senior is running the football side. Cheston the finances. Never the twain shall meet.

Cheston said this? Is he in the loop?

It appears that Senior is running the Football operations from start and end. Leaving Cheston and Slivester to deal with the admin side

On the recruitment side, Senior will be charge of this but I think he and Mowbray will decide on a shortlist after the season has finish and Senior will do the deals. whilst Mowbray focus on the coaching side of the club and bring in one or 2 staff like a new fitness coach or gk coach.

    Who mentioned Cheston?

Apologies for missing you out of the post the other day.  Butterworth is not the biggest lad but seems to know where the goal is.  Holds the ball up and lays it off well.  A fair turn of speed and can finish.  Not one that is easily knocked off the ball.  Reminds me of a young Simon Garner to be honest.  Early days but another lad that seems to have huge potential.

Cheers Parson, I was getting worried there!

If he's in the Garner mould then we've got a proper forward on our hands. Beattie must be the last good one we produced.

Back to the topic, but sticking to positive things rather than being a damn negative supporter.

I've been going to watch the development squad this season and feel really positive for the future.

I'm a big fan of Nyambe and Mahoney being in the first team, as they were brilliant for the reserves, and if I was Damien Johnson I'd of been gutted that they'd made the step up as they played a big part in that team - obviously thats the whole point in the team but you get what I mean.

Rankins-Costello is my one for the future. Real warrior, and you always notice him on the pitch when some of the lads just blend in to wearing a blue and white shirt. He does get booked a lot as he's a bit hot headed, but maybe that's a good thing as he wont take any messing from the rough and tumble of the Championship.

I was really impressed with Mols at the Cardiff game - It was the first time I've seen him get on for the reserves, and he ran his heart out. I believe he play in an unfamiliar position? so every credit to the lad.

I really like Fisher too. I've never seen Raya play so I can't compare, but I'd be happy to see him as no.2 to Steele. He's vocal, seems confident and pulled off some good saves in the shoot-out away at Southport when we all froze our nuts off.

Parsons ignored me so I'll ask you. :) What type of player is Butterworth? Is he quick etc?

Good post BTW, it's good to hear how the young uns are doing as I don't get to watch them. Keep us updated.

Ignore JAL, he's lost the plot.

The low bar setting probably does play a part :)

Some decent signings in (free or not, doesn't matter if they are good) , none of our important  players leaving, deadwood cleared out and new contracts for Mahoney, Lowe and possible Guthrie. All combined with the most solid manager we have had since Allardyce. That is the minimum I expect. Which I would argue is the most positive summer since Venkys took over. Anything extra is a bonus.

I'd imagine Lowe will have to take a big pay cut to be offered a new contract. He must be one of the better paid players at the club, and let's be honest he's poor with the ball. As Mowbray's teams try to knock it around I'd be surprised if Lowe was in his thoughts. Then again every manager seems to pick him so what do I know.

Mahoney signing would be a real plus. I think he's going to be quality. He beats people for fun. Not many wingers can do that anymore. Mahoney,  Lenihan, Tomlinson and Nyambe are the ones we should be looking to keep hold of and develop. The likes of Akpan, Stokes etc are more than replaceable.

Guthrie's ok, but we've fallen a long way if his signature is the litmus test of a good summer. I'd say Mulgrew is the only good central midfielder we have. But if Guthrie can stay fit and build his strength then he may be a real asset to Mowbray.

Freebies of the quality of Danny Graham are fine. Like you say though it doesn't matter how much they cost if they are good uns' but our standard of signings has gradually got worse over the years. No reason to think that won't continue this summer unless the Venksters turn the money taps on. Can't see it can you?

Regardless, Paul Senior will have to earn his money this summer and recruit well. A lot of focus will be on him this summer.

As for Mowbray, he's started well. He speaks in a measured way, and doesn't sugar-coat things in the way Coyle did. But then anyone looks good following the hapless Coyle. Mowbrays test will come if he loses a couple and we slip back in the relegation places.

Great that Mowbray has had the opportunity to speak to the owners already. Definitely an improvement on communications by the looks of it. Credit to Paul Senior.

I like how Mowbray said we will secure our status in the division and then he will talk to them during the summer about next steps.

I am going to say that this will be our most positive and constructive summer since Venkys bought the club.

It's going to be a big ask. They've set the bar very high over the years.

What do you predict will happen?

I'm guessing a few free transfers incoming and the sale of our better players. That seems to be the template.

A very good win and an excellent performance, particularly up to the point when Butterworth came off injured.  First twenty minutes or so it was fairly even and Cardiff looked like being tough opponents.  Then we started knocking it around with increased confidence and played some lovely pass and move football.  Hardcastle and Mols were outstanding in midfield, Mols playing in an unfamiliar position on the right wing.  Rankin-Costello took his goals well and Butterworth was a constant threat playing just behind Mansell.  Ward and Hoban looked, as you would expect, a class apart and controlled things at the back without breaking sweat.  This allowed Travis and Doyle to continually attack down the flanks from full-back.  Injuries to Butterworth and Doyle meant we lost momentum in the second half and although we created numerous chances we didn't take them.  Cardiff's consolation came with the last kick of the match.  This was another very impressive performance from Rovers youngsters considering they were without Nyambe, Tomlinson, Mahoney, Platt and Thomson.  Hardcastle is returning to form after a lean time, Mols looks an outstanding attacking prospect, as does Rankin-Costello and in Butterworth we looked to have picked up a real prospect from United.  Travis and Doyle were excellent in the full-backs positions - both in defence and going forward.  The ideal game for Ward and Hoban as they got 90 minutes in without being overworked.

Do you know much about Butterworth, why he left Man U etc? He sounds like a real prospect. Is he quick. skilful etc?

I knew it was my opinion when I posted it!

However you have couched your opinion of Lambert as a fact which has been proven.

Clearly the difference between an opinion and a fact has escaped you.

Course it's proven! Unless I've missed the myriad of medals & achievements that have confirmed Lambo's greatness?

We had a good team, well capable of making the play-offs and plenty said that on here at the time.

You were on the official site at the time.so you wouldn't have seen it. And 8th or 9th was not decent enough when the play-off cut off at 6th.

A good spotter of talent, or his Dad was, but a poor manager.

    In your opinion.

Plenty on here also said that Lambert was a 'great manager' and we were lucky to have him. That has proved to be nonsense. As it was when it was said.
