  1. Ah yes Birdy Brow. Might as well throw in Jeffrey Hill as well!

From where you are just head out in to the Ribble Valley and make it up as you go along.

the Mont Ventoux of Lancs! I did look up towards Jeffrey Hill but turned left instead at the New Drop Inn and headed down to Ribchester. Far easier!!

  2. Through the Trough of Bowland from Bashall would have been a good alternative and then on towards Lancaster direction, you can see the whole of Morecambe bay further up that road.

cheers, my legs had gone by then though, i'm not in the best shape at the moment! Defo gonna try and get up that direction at the weekend. Lancaster maybe a bit of a stretch! The cafe at Dunsop Bridge appeals though.

The A59 is a road to be avoided along its whole length on a bike. Luckily there are plenty of alternatives. For your ride you could have followed the Lancashire cycle way from Mellor over to Ramsgreave & Wilpshire station then back up over York to Whalley. Lumpier than the A59 but pretty quiet and a fabulous long descent not Whalley.

If you're on Strava you should be able to see my rides all over Lancashire over the last few years.

thanks. never heard of Strava but i'll look it up. I'll have a go at the Lancs cycle way

  3. Being only a fair weather cyclist i went out on only my 3rd ride of the year yesterday. I'd forgot the hell that is the A59 between Osbaldeston and Whalley! Terrified doesn't come close to how i was feeling as lorry after lorry barrelled past me. I did see a bloke in a spiderman outfit cycling the other way so it wasn't all bad.

After carrying on to Clitheroe and then towards Bashall Eaves i made the mistake of tackling something called 'Birdy Brow' that takes you to the top of Longridge fell. Frig me that's a killer. Have any of you lot made it to the top without needing rescusitation?

Anyway, if any of you have any recommendations for decent rides round Lanky or beyond they'd be much appreciated.

  4. you can't seriously wallow in the marginal success of a bunch of kids in a competition that the tops teams didn't enter and we got a bye to the quarters....

they did well. 2 years younger than most of the lads they played against and they reach the final. Not bad for an academy that was destroyed under Kean.

  5. You've clearly misunderstood. I wasn't talking about tonight. The issue is why were they left out vs Reading? Some defended Bowyer by claiming they were being rested for the youth cup game, as it was their "biggest game of the season". They clearly weren't, as they didn't play. Yes, O'Sullivan played tonight, which is great, but I see no reason why they weren't given at least a run out on Saturday. After the backlash from some posters defending Bowyer's decision to rest them at Reading citing it was specifically for the youth final, it is a little humorous how they didn't feature.

You're just looking for things to moan about. Bowyer said he would give O'Sullivan a run-out before the end of the season and he has. The only people who said he should play at Reading were on here and fortunately none of you manage the club.

  6. Maybe but we drew 0-0 yesterday in a game we simply had to win, remember the manager had said play offs were still possible we should have been going for it not prioritising a youth cup

you put a lot of faith in 2 young lads who have never played in the Championship getting us a win yesterday.

Did you read what Kinder said? He says the youth team doesn't take priority, it's up to Bowyer if he wants them. Bowyer says in the other article O'Sully will get a chance ;-

"So we are excited and looking forward to seeing how he does in the first team."

Not sure anything that's happened so far contradicts this. Anyway lets see who plays tomorrow and at Brum.

  7.

laughing at someone who knows a lot more about the goings on at Ewood shows you up as the ignoramus i always thought you were.

Wouldn't be a bad appointment Stuart. He's done a decent job thus far this season.

only realised who you were when i saw the Blue-eyed boy's blog the other day. I've really enjoyed your books on Rovers over the years, as have a lot of my family.

  8. This particular one is down to Danny Murphy putting pressure on Kean and Shebby. After a couple of friendlies, he's convinced that Etuhu would be a perfect fit.

Thanks for that. Hopefully Murphy will be able to do the managers job a bit more often. It's frightening though just how incompetent Kean is if he is relying on advice from his players on who to sign.

Just seen Kean quote on Etuhu "Dickson is a player I have admired for a long time and he will be a fantastic addition to the squad" He admired him for so long that Murphy had to tell Kean to sign him. Kean tells lies shocker.
