  1. There must be some good league 1/2 defenders capable of stepping up and playing at the top end of the Championship.
  2. We were dead and buried under Coyle, dreadful manager that he was. Mowbray was very unfortunate to see us relegated. We bounced straight back up, he's blooded youngsters in and signed some really exciting young players: Rothwell, Gallagher, Chapman, with tons of potential.. We're in a much better place now than under Coyle.. Do you not remember the season everyone's contracts expired and we were scratching around for Fode Koite, Guthrie etc on free transfers?
  3. Just because Mowbray has said he wanted to increase his budget by selling, it doesn't mean he doesn't already have a decent one... Maybe Mowbray wanted to sign a 5m centre forward and a 5m centre half- therefor he needed to sell a player to buff his budget out.. Even massive sides sometimes have to sell players they'd otherwise like to keep to allow them to bring someone in..
  4. What time's kick-off chaps?.. Nothing in The Telegraph, yet..
  5. I'd still take Reed back, then grab Carson, this young lad on loan and then another centre half on loan and we're laughing..
  6. Surely a keeper and centre half can't be far away now? Minus Bauer, I've not heard a single centre half linked with us..
  7. I think someone like James Collins would have made a massive difference last season when we capitulated. I'd be looking for someone in that mould, a gamble on a 'good' league 1 defender and a right back. That shouldn't break the bank.. I can't help but feel Mowbray perhaps felt that Raya was at the heart of our defensive woes last season and with a more 'experienced' stopper behind them our back four will be transformed.. The thing is Raya's stats last season seem to be amongst the best in the country- sure he had his faults, but he had a ton of positives. I'm concerned we're going to replace talent with an old mouth of inferior quality whilst neglecting to strengthen the rest of our defence.. BUT. In Mowbray I trust, I'm sure he's got a plan, I don't think he's a naive manager at all. Looking forward to seeing how things pan out.
  8. Same here... It's cringeworthy, to be honest. Some people need to get a bloody grip- muppets!
  9. Fraser Forster would be a great signing, Hart, I'm not convinced...
  10. If it's that easy to replace Raya for less than 3m why haven't Brentford signed someone else? They believe they are getting a young lad with the potential to improve and increase in value.. We've been down this road with Cairney, sold him relatively cheap and he went on to become a 20-30m footballer..
  11. Jaap Stam looked good in that charity game he played... Could we afford his wages though?
  12. Who was the midfielder from the MLS we were looking at last year? I liked the look of him.
  13. If Brereton had shown enough potential to be worth towards 7 million, and I know a goalkeeper is a totally different position- different valuations etc, but surely Raya has shown enough to be deemed a 'prospect' and should be going for a similar price tag? He has a few things he needs to work on: kicking, crosses.. Both you can coach.. He has some incredible attributes that you can't coach.. I'd loathe to lose him to a side in our division and tbh, I think it would be a bad move for him as well.
  14. Did we though? I can't remember us plucking many Championship or League 1 players from obscurity when we were in the Premier League.. I know we did get some gems, but the majority of those were from overseas clubs: Nelsen, Samba, Friedel, Tugay, Benni, Roque, Nzonzi, Pedersen, Salgado, Jermaine Jones, Goulon, Bellamy.. Kuqi is probably the only one that really jumps out at me if I'm honest, oh, and Keith Andrews..
  15. Bid gone in for Lenihan from Sheff Utd according to Twitter
  16. Is there anyone 'In the know', with Rovers anymore? Used to love coming on here for breaking news..
  17. Olsson is a good shout, bet his wages are massive now though...
  18. I'd love to see Hanley back, just what we need. Big aggressive centre half. I'm a bit concerned about this talk of Hugil, I don't think he's what we need. What about John Marquis from Doncaster or Freddie Ladaopo from Plymouth.. Both would be cheaper and seem to have a bit more about them... Gallagher on loan with a view to buy along with Harrison Reed- although I'd be surprised to see Reed come back given Mowbrays reluctance to use him in his favoured position.. Throw in an experienced right back and keeper and we're cooking on gas Mark Bunn (FREE) Alan Hutton (FREE) Hanley (Loan to buy) or James Collins- knocking on but always liked him, real leader! Reed (Loan to buy) John Marquis (750k-1.25m) Let go of some deadwood then perhaps look at bringing in a 'marquee' signing, by marquee I mean someone over the value of 2 million that could make an immediate impact and improvement to the squad.
  19. Data is a young lad that lacks confidence and so struggles to dominate his box.. I think having a burly experienced centre half in front would help him. As would competing against an experienced older keeper - Kuszak or whatever he's called may a good choice. Someone to help develop him. Raya has incredibly good reflexes, agility and positioning.. His kicking and presence are poor But to me they ARE attributes that can be improved through coaching.. Unlike the others.. Keep him and develop him. He's going to be class.
