Yep. Not sure what's happened this summer as we seem to be completely incapable of getting deals over the line.
It sounds completely bizarre that We're only now considering the implications of something That's been mentioned on here many times, I.e. is a loan with an option to purchase binding or can either Club pull out? As someone else said, this surely isn't a difficult concept, either it's written into the deal that the transfer is a binding obligation on both sides or it isn't.
It seems equally bizarre that it only now seems to be dawning on us that it is an extremely risky proposition waiting until the last minute hoping that Premier League Clubs will let their youngsters out on loan.
Reading between the lines of the article we've decided to move on from Brereton and the best we can hope for before the weekend is someone in on Loan. Better not be bloody Cameron Jerome.
I took it that we're potentially close to sealing the Brereton deal and that we're moving on from Bauer.

Severely disappointing end to the window. However if either of those reported bids were accepted, there'd be a completely different mood in here. I don't buy that the bids were to appease fans. If they were accepted, the players would be here.
On reflection Armstrong signing is massive for us. Along with Palmer joining that's a statement of intent. The window can easily be salvaged with a winger and a striker on loan (ideally with a view to buy), which Mowbray will no doubt be targeting.

Yes , but if we could get him on loan and use him primarily to come on for those last 20-25 minutes that Mowbray uses to give Danny Graham a rest to build up his fitness I don't see a problem
I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

I put rothwell in my 11 and hopefully he will start the next 45 games. Next time I want to see Samuel is upfront against carlisle
On another note has anyone ever seen Evans hit a shot that didn't smash a floodlight
On his debut at Ewood Evans smashed in a 20-25 yard volley. Haven't seen him hit a decent shot since.

Back to Armstrong...
We're potentially signing a 21 year old striker with junior England honours for under £3 million. He has a track record of scoring regularly in League 1 but hasn't yet proved himself in the Championship for whatever reason (Barnsley - Lack of consistency, Bolton - Out of position). He's an absolute steal for us and will only get better.

He would be ok on loan with a view to sign in our favor, lad seems to have lost his way a bit. One of them moves that could be great or a disaster
That's probably the best bet. Get to take a look at him, then decide on a purchase at the end of the loan, like we did with Payne. Forest seem to have written him off, so I imagine he'd be going for cheaper than they bought him for.

I think a few people just need to calm down. The window isn't closed yet. The squad isn't in a great shape at the moment, but there's time to sort that out and Mowbray seems confident of getting who he wants (based on recent interviews).
Let's judge at the end of the window.

The banner has been on his twitter for a good few months. Definitely isn't new.

Has to be one of Chapman or Armstrong or they've got the wrong end of the stick with the agent Benno thing! Armstrong back on loan with an agreed purchase fee would be my guess - plus the Chelsea lad.
Fake news apparently..

Fake news! ???
I don't understand your post. Nothing is certain until there's an announcement. I'm just speculating who I believe it's about, as many others on here have.

The agent benno stuff indicates that we're signing one of Chapman/Armstrong, alongside Palmer. If so, that would be brilliant. Either would give us the pace we're crying out for out wide.

When do they release the away kit?
Towards the end of this month apparently.

For a great example of good League 1 winger turned top end Championship regular last season, see Nathaniel Mendez-Laing. Probably performed as well for Rochdale as Maddison has for Peterborough, then moved to Cardiff and took to the Championship well.
-
Fingers crossed lads. A signing like that would be really impressive.

I think it's smart only giving him a 12 month extension.
Smallwood was excellent last season certainly In the first half of the season before his form tailed off.
You have to remember when with Rotherham in the championship they didn't think him good enough and he was loaned to league one.
There are question marks over wether he is championship standard so I'm happy the club have only given him a 12 month extension
I'd agree with this. I like him as a player but there are question marks over whether or not he's good enough at this level. He'll get another deal in 12 months time if he proves himself and if he loves it at Ewood as much as he makes out, he'll take it.

Conspiracy.. posh chairman replies to any fan about his players including maddinson exepct for rovers.. and not even Nixon or Sharpe will reply
Maddinson to rovers confirmed
Would love that to be the case. He looks a player. Him and Armstrong/Chapman back and we start to look so much stronger.

Sharpe once again pricking the bubble of idle speculation with the needle of truth. Titan.
I think he does a good job for the LET. He's very active on Twitter and seems to find out a lot from the club.

Ah fair enough. Didn't really know what was going on there..

I think the injury-proneness has come from the Oldham boards. Perhaps he doesn't particularly get serious injuries so much but more niggles that mean he starts from the bench more than being fit enough to start games. Those 80+ appearances could quite easily contain half of them being from the bench. I don't know the facts or can be bothered to look but it would seem that reading the Oldham boards previously a few on their mentioned him being injury-prone.
He did also have a serious injury at Utd didnt he? Again, not sure.
Who are we signing from Oldham?
-
I've never really understood the criticism of Williams. He was a standout player for us in the run of games under Mowbray in the Championship, so I don't see any reason why he would struggle all of a sudden next season.
He did have a few games at the start of last season where he did look poor (at home to AFC Wimbledon springs straight to mind), but even he's admitted that he grew into the season. Across the season he was one of our more consistent performers, which has culminated in an international call up. I'm looking forward to seeing him kick on next season.

At the end of the day, none of us know who we are after, who we are signing. We don’t know who TM wants. If a good player becomes available his age probably won’t matter. Can’t wait for the first signing so we can all settle down.
Love the idea of this forum ever settling down. We could be challenging for the Prem and people would be booting off.

Yeah because we don't want to pay him as much.If we take up the option it would be on the same terms as when he first signed for us
Fair play. That's understandable.

I think it's really important that we keep Graham. He bailed us out in games last season on his own at times. He's no longer a 90 minute player but he's vital to the way we play and would be very hard to replace for reasonable money.
I can understand concerns about his continued form and fitness, but I can't see a similar player costing us any less than £2mill in the current market. I'd be looking to offer him a 12 month deal with a 12 month extension as people have mentioned.
Does anyone know why his 12 month extension hasn't just automatically kicked in?

Exactly. They're now haggling to get the best possible deal on him. As I'm sure we would do when selling any of our assets.
The difference with the Bauer transfer, is that Charlton aren't in a strong position to negotiate due to Bauer's contract running down and his public statement saying that he won't be signing a new one. They're just digging their heels in for the sake of it, hoping they'll get an excessive transfer fee. That one shouldn't have dragged on as long as it has.
