  1. If the transfer fee is already set then that could be a big problem, Barca could buy him back just to sell him on at a higher price if he's a success.
  2. Agreed. We should go 4-3-3 and have Rochina and Hoilett as the wide strikers. If we can scrape through this season I'm really excited at that prospect, they're both perfect for those roles.
  3. "Next season is the season we were really looking at but it is possible I can help this season." So he was bought for next season. What a surprise. Excellent interview anyway.
  4. Seems to have a hell of a left foot on him so why not play him as a wide striker in a 4-3-3? Hoilett is perfect for the wide striker role on the other side. That means we can get three central midfielders in there and give ourselves a chance of having the ball. We can't play with two effectively, it's only since Kean switched the three in there that we've stopped gifting multiple chances. As much as I don't doubt Rochina would enjoy playing off a striker, we can't afford anyone that luxury. That's not just us mind, most teams can't afford that luxury and push players like Rochina into the wider areas.
  5. I know you're probably joking, but we couldn't sign him even if we wanted to. He can't join anyone until the next transfer window. If he's lucky he might get a contract in Qatar or somewhere like that. If not I think we've probably seen the last of him.
  6. A very Rovers-tinted view there! Shearer broke records at Newcastle. Neill went on to captain West Ham, now earning big money at Galatasary. Sherwood was a regular for Spurs, didn't all his England caps come whilst there? Friedel was challenging for a Champions League place last year, still first choice there now. Not sure Benni applies, we sold him because he wasn't good enough any more. The others I'll give you!
  7. I think even 2 or 3 is pushing it! Lock Stock is just about tolerable as a background drinking-with-your-mates film, that's about it. If you fancy having a good laugh at him, listen to his bemusing ramblings on the "director's commentary" section of the Revolver DVD. He is a very confused man. I haven't seen the film but I've heard snippets of his insanity from that commentary, it's entertaining.
  8. Thanks, I'm only a mile or so down the road so I'll check that out soon. Looks very reasonably priced from the menu!
  9. Looking to get rid of the people responsible, hopefully. It's one thing to miss talent whilst scouting, but to miss it when it's right under your nose every day is unforgivable. If Preston could afford to take a gamble on him then we could. I'm making that sound more significant than it is as well...how much is a 16 year old paid? I'm only guessing here, but surely someone must have underestimated his potential pre-injury. I can't imagine we'd cast him aside so easily if they had any idea he had the potential to be a £5 million player at 19.
  10. Just to add more Barton news - Preston to demand £5 million from Everton and Stoke. Makes you sick really. Does anyone know if the person responsible for casting him aside is still at the club? I hope not.
  11. I hope someone at Rovers is taken out back and shot if he ever makes it to the England squad.
  12. I'd say that's being overly generous rather than fair. How much would have cost to keep him on the books for another year or two and see how the injury healed? If Preston could afford to find out then we sure as hell could. Someone has cost Rovers a lot of money by ditching him so quickly. I'm surprised you think he'll be eager to come back, we hardly showed any loyalty to him after the injury.
  13. It sounds like somebody in the youth set-up made a huge mistake by allowing Adam Barton to leave. Apparently Bolton are after him already, and I've heard nothing but good things about his performances so far.
  14. Really? I always thought he was one of the better people in football, he's certainly a lot brighter than most of them.
  15. And yet we've had people on the transfer topic this week saying that we shouldn't have sold him!
  16. If drugs were classified based on scientific knowledge today, tobacco and alcohol would be 'worse' than plenty of illegal substances. Here is a top 20 list from Professor David Nutt. Ecstasy at 18 really stands out, it's below steroids!
  17. Very interesting documentary on Channel 4 - Our Drugs War. It doesn't really bring anything new to the debate, but it does put the ideas in more mainstream environment. Making drugs illegal is little more than political points scoring and, as that documentary suggets, just serves to make the situation worse. It's a three parter so I'll definitely be watching the next two.
  18. Ciaran Donnelly (remember him?) has just signed for my hometown club, Barrow AFC. If anyone told me on the day I saw him outclass Brazil at schoolboy level that, aged 26, he'd be signing for Barrow, I'd never have believed it. Actually, considering I've been following his career and posting about him for a decade or so, it feels oddly fatalistic that he's gone there.
  19. Who would have thought pigeons had good taste in music?. If I had wings I'd probably spend my time doing something similar too.
  20. That'll hit Spurs' Reserve team pretty hard. Shame, they probably hoping for a good start to the season as well...
  21. Look at the comments, the West Ham fans hate him already. I'm not sure why people are insisting we have to be nice to him. He was excellent in his first season, then did his best to get move to Chelsea that summer, spent the next season sulking (by which time Roque had replaced him as our main man), then after that was too fat and lazy to play on a regular basis.
  22. Speak of the devil, the whole set is on channel VIVA (Freeview 21) now!
  23. They probably weren't right for headlining Glasto, but I don't agree with that at all - the new album is brilliant, possibly their best yet. It's such a shame Mos Def had to pull out, Sweepstakes would have blown everyone away if he'd been there. Try and watch the London Roundhouse performance of that sing, it's amazing. . Must be so hard to play that live, it's got a crazy time signature.
