Why would he do that? If he stays a free agent he can take a £3/4m signing on fee for himself when he moves on a free, on top of having more clubs to choose from.

Though I agree - he is an injury away from it falling down like a house of cards. Look at Dack, lots of rumours of big money moves - and then he gets injured. At least he had a good contract to protect him.

I did say experience in the middle we are a team of young talented players who play with no fear at times but you need a wise old head too  and yeah Mola can play left back but is he a left back ? Edun can play left back but he is shit there and where is the cover for Brittain after SVBD never arrived ? JRC is woeful

Carter and Travis - neither ideal, but both better than JRC has been recently

That's Brereton going for free or a possible very low fee in January 2023 (barring a last-minute bid accepted). A repeat of the destabilising Rothwell situation - though you'd hope he doesn't demand a move in the same fashion. I think the club has messed up again. We can just hope that Brereton fires up to the upper reaches of the league by Jan.

I don't think the club have messed up - only £5m more than what we paid for Diaz is an insult to the club and the player. He has developed so much after a decidedly dodgy start at Rovers - if he stays injury free I could see potential for top 6.

Just hope JDT is happy with business. After signing Hyam the other day he suggested he wanted another 3, and we've got 2 in Hirst and Mola, so short of what he was expecting. Perhaps retaining Brereton will be a bonus but get the feeling he wanted more.

I don't think we've added enough but happy to be proven wrong on that. I was skeptical as to last summer's dealings and they worked out ok.

I do wonder how much Wharton's performance last night has influenced thinking. It was obviously only one game - but if he replicates that form over the next few matches we have a real bonus for JDT

I'll love another season with Ben. Maybe we can offer him a new contract with a release clause of like 10 mill. Then he can leave next season for an affordable fee, and we'll have some money rather than zero.

I can't see him signing a new contract - and why should when a free transfer will likely translate to a huge wage at his new club. However his agent is playing a risky game - Dack shows that an injury can ruin any footballers plans.

  6. A good performance, but to balance things a little

    1. A better team than Blackpool would have taken advantage of our occasional sloppiness at the back

    2. For a match we dominated for large parts we could have easily drawn the match at the end.

    3. Diaz was easily our stand out attacker - wonder how we will cope if he leaves.

On the positive - a big improvement on the previous three league matches - scoring the first goal was key.

I strongly suspect that was Diaz's last game for us. The club cannot afford to lose him for nothing and he deserves a prem move. Good luck to him.

His attitude has been absolutely first class - I really hope he gets the move he deserves and goes from strength to strength. Of course we also get £20m plus a big sell on clause - and the club have a decent replacement or two lined up 😁

If we play like we did second half against Stoke we've got a chance. I hope Diaz turns up.

If we play like we did first half against Stoke it'll be embarassing.

I think most on here are missing that (bar the centre halves) - this is the team that did so well in the second half against Stoke.

A big night for Carter - after a season in league 1 he should be used to playing against centre forwards who try to rough you up. Lets see if his excellent spell at Portsmouth can translate into Rovers colours.

Although I think JDT has been let down by our failure in the transfer market, tactically we have been inept so far. That is down to the manager.

It's s terrible sign when a manager constantly has to change shape during a game and has to hook players at half time. It suggests the manager is getting wrong time and time again.

And yet after 3 matches people were saying how tactically he got it spot on - or are you saying he got it wrong in those matches ? If we had won today - people would be saying how good he was at adjusting his tactics.

Mourinho has history of massive tactical and personnel changes even before half time.

Let's give him a while before judging him.

If JDT says we only need 3 more signings, then what it really means, is that Venkys said JDT you can only have 3 more..

Or it could mean - let's manage other clubs expectations so we aren't held over a financial barrel if trying to get through last minute deals. You could read it in lots of ways, but he is a manager who is on record about promoting youth players - so doubt he will want a bloated squad.

I'd bet on him to never score 20 goals again in a season in any division (and I think he will end up back in the Championship).

There is no guarantees - but I think he would score 20 for Rovers if he stays injury free. Also, I actually think he will be one of the few strikers to leave Rovers and actually do well at a higher level. Of course  if he goes to Everton he might end up back in the Championship through no fault of his own 😆
