The players mentioned will have their positions for the majority of the time and be able to interchange during a match creating a more fluid attacking threat.

The key, for me, is for the attacking unit to be well drilled - i.e. Diaz drifts central, Vale moves out left etc. TBH - I was surprised how well it seemed to work on Saturday - given the limited time to embed the approach. We didn't create a huge amount of chances though - but we did have a number of opportunities created by the new approach just missing that final pass or touch.

If Im not wrong....JDT would like to have four attackers to sub with his three attackers if things dont pan out and bring on fresh legs for the last 20 mins to stretch sides.... remember we can sub 5 players this season:

    1st 70 mins attack:

    Breo, Sammie, Gally

            Dack

    Last 20 mins attack:

    Dolan, Vale, Markandy

         Hedges

Totally agree - watching how the system seems to work - puts a large workload on the forwards tracking back etc. Indeed that seemed to be the main thing SG did well at the weekend  - as he put in a hell of a shift for the team.

Morton fills a jersey. Might be good might be shite. I’m generally not a massive fan of loanees they’re either shite or if they’re good such as van hecke, Elliott, Tosin it’s achieved little other than a short term plugging of a hole for a season and puts you back at square one the following summer.

I think they have explained that - he is here to fill a gap while some of our own youngsters gain more experience (presumably from the bench and the odd cup match). Only time will tell how good he is playing at this level.

CM is still a huge need, for as impressive as Travis and Buckley were/are, they are not going to play 46 games each, both will likely be suspended for one reason or another - and Buckley especially looks questionable once booked with his decision making.

Potentially need that creative and energetic player available to come on for Buckley late in games (if were not chasing a goal) if he's on a yellow. Is Wharton that player?

Agree about Buckley - but wow - when it comes off for him, he looks like a hell of a player. Can't help but feel he will occasionally be caught in possession - but a few of the touches he made yesterday created room in midfield like no other player we currently have.,

  5. Interesting to read so many different opinions. Early season matches are always a bit hit and miss. Some promising moves that came to nothing - but you could see the intent.

I don't think anyone had a bad match - but some were only average at best.

Though Travis goal was something else, my MOM was Buckley. Didn't think they would work as a pair - how wrong was I - if they can avoid injury and cards - they have the ability to really push us forward. Though you have worry about defensive midfield against better teams.

Decent player, but they should be wearing masks at 2.5m seems to be the general consensus on their forum…

I think I mentioned before - does seem steep - but depends on how much success structured - ie so much for promotion, number of games, goals etc.

I do wonder whether we are now looking at lower leagues as there is a better chance they will hit the ground running - but also, when you look at total cost (fee + wages over contract) they represent better value than ex-Premiership academy players who are probably already on a decent salary  and Premiership clubs seem to be looking for increased fees.

With each day that passes, it's becoming more and more apparent that Broughton is a dud. Overwhelmed and unable to deliver.

If the best he can come up with is blowing £2.5m on some L1 no hoper and a loan for Tyler Morton, he needs to start packing his bags now.

Peterborough fans can't believe their luck and want to take the money and run. That should say something.

Will wait to see how that £2.5m transfer is structured - I would hope some will be linked to appearances, goals etc - plus a big chunk related to promotion.

Hope you're right chaddy. To me you can't say that with any real confidence as if we were DEFINITELY bringing in said quality signings we would already have done so  by now.

    Why wouldn't you?

I think the market will open up more when the Premiership teams settle on their squads for next season - having a ripple effect throughout the EFL.

When you look at our current first team, it isn't too different to last year - we are just very exposed to any injuries.

    Sorry, on point one -

He agreed the Phil Jones scenaro is definitely something they need to consider going forwards as part of their lessons learnt, he also stated that around £10 million was made available for transfers last season but it just wasnt spent so will go someway at plugging the FFP deficit, so although disappointing, he felt we was still in a good place.

Point 2 - He seemed oblivious to the Kentaro damage, and when I said Honeyman he answered,  Craig? These points were not completely closed out, but we literally ran out of time. This will need a good hour discussion in its own right.

We have to appreciate, we've lived and breathed the dismantling of the club, he arrived after the damage was done and the bad guys long gone. Not many can tell the full story, and i'm under no doubt he has heard somethings, but without the dots joined up it makes little sense.

On the whole it was a promising first chat, but with so much more to discuss, its going to take a little time

Thanks for your work on this - without getting too excited - it all sounds more promising than it has done for some time.

Though you possibly already have done  might be worth catching up privately with Chaddy to see if the message is consistent or not.

Bodies is what we need tbh. Square pegs in round holes would be an improvement right now because atleast we'd have some pegs.

And a further drain on the wage bill - though I would obviously prefer us to sign players prior to the start of the season - if it means waiting a few more weeks to get the right signing at the right wage - though impatient I will wait.

Missed Out FC is coming along nicely.

                          GK

    RB      Anel    Davies    LB

                CM   Hourihane

                        AM

    RW            Colak      Cantwell

Keep up the good work, Swag, Middleman, Barry and Co. We're going to have a belting 11 put together before the window is up. What might have been, eh?

We may have asked about Davies - been told £4m, wages over £40k and then backed off straight away. We can't compete with wages and transfers fees on offer from other clubs.,

Wouldn't be surprised if it was all down to the head honchos being on their summer hols and hanging out the do not disturb signs.

We've heard that in the past, GB might well be finding out just how this circus is run.

Right from the start Broughton said we had a good transfer budget BUT within our current wage structure. I would imagine there is a certain amount of brinkmanship going on with wages - it will be a case of who blinks first - the club or the agents. In the meantime - any club with a bigger wage budget is likely to outbid us - but I think most Championship clubs (excl parachute payment clubs) have similar constraints to us. Even those with parachute payments are running a fairly high risk strategy as they get towards the end of them - we are a good example of how it can all go wrong quickly.

So? It was like all this the other week about ‘fans being up in arms if BB had signed a new deal in 2020’.

The club either protects its assets and its balance sheet or it doesn’t, upset fans don’t come into it.

Irrespective of the fans - the club really couldn't win with Rothwell. The multi million pound offers were only coming from one club. £3m at Christmas or potential promotion. I think we can argue all day about the club letting the contracts run down - but mid pandemic who was buying players for us to recoup good fees for them ?

I think we could have been more proactive - but appreciate it isn't straightforward.
