  1. Sorry to put RVI back to the top of the thread ... but it really is on merit. Clog and Billy at lunchtime today, outstanding food, quick and efficient service, great value ... you just can not criticise what's on offer there. The food is so good at C+B and 3 Fishes that we shouldn't pretend any more - this is restaurant food not pub food. We are the lucky people who can enjoy it for a 5 quid cab fare because we live where we live.
  2. Certainly wasn't open on Saturday night when we tried to go there .... ended up in the trusty Anaz.
  3. That's the most sensible thing you've posted for weeks! See what you can do when you stop idolising The Fat Manager for a few minutes
  4. Went to El Rincon de Rafa tonight before going to the MEN, have to say it's a great recommendation so thanks both! Time was short, but in 40 minutes we ate really well, and 7 tapas dishes washed down with 3 beers was well under 40 quid. Loved the footy memorabilia on the walls as well including the signed Maradona shirt (the owner used to play for Stockport it seems). We'll be returning for a more leisurely visit in the very near future.
  5. Love that song too at the moment - can see/hear it in the Live Lounge << here >> Off to the Kaiser Chiefs at the MEN tonight ... should be decent.
  6. Went to the Three Fishes after the game today - great food as expected. However, they'd abandoned the "no bookings unless there's more than 6 of you policy" for the evening and had pretty much booked the place out. For the hour or so we were there, they must have turned away about 15 couples who assumed normal rules applied and expected to eat - doh! We heard that they are actually going to abandon that policy for weekdays, so they will be taking bookings for any size of party except at the weekend when it will still only be parties of 6+ who can book. I assume this will apply at the Clog and Billycock as well.
  7. Stompe properly destroyed Mardle. If he hits his doubles like that against Taylor there could be a shock in the next round.
  8. Haha - that's a great description of EMF! Quite a few familiar faces from the MB when we saw the same gig on Friday night at the Carling Academy in Birmingham ... Glenn, Scotty, Percy and Manchester Blue were all enjoying it!
  9. Gave this a whirl today Paul, seems a nice place. They didn't have what I wanted for today unfortunately but I got some lamb anyway for a hotpot during the week, and it was very good value. Local lamb is obviously their strength, so will keep that in mind.
  10. Arnside has a famous restaurant ...
  11. Iron Maiden's best cover band playing Moses Gate Bolton tomorrow night. Taxi heading back to Darwen around midnight
  12. We ate at Northcote last night, and it was stunning. It should be stunning, because it's definitely a once-in-a-blue-moon special occasion type of place, but we are definitely very lucky to have it on the doorstep. Better than anything I've had in London or Paris, or anywhere actually. Lived up to it's reputation and the reviews which have put it into the top 10 restaurants in the UK.
  13. Rovers launch former players association (LET)
  14. Buy One Get One Free. If I see that in a restaurant, I'm tempted to go somewhere else. Discounting of that sort to shift volume is fine in Sainsburys, but there's a time and a place for everything ...
  15. We went to Preston's more central spin off of Duk - Pond - last night (Friday) after meeting friends off a train at Preston station. Liked the atmosphere, and the food was pretty good too. Thought it was a bit pricey for what it's trying to be - the prices would be ok for a "proper" straight-up restaurant, but made a late Friday evening meal in Pond seem a bit extravagant. That said, the happy hour deals would be a bargain, because it was good.
  16. No luck mate! See you << here >> on 1st November!!! (and prob 14th and 29th as well!)
  17. What is really annoying about Ticketmaster in this situation, is that every time you get the rejection page "we haven't found any tickets blah blah blah" they also give you the option to click a button called "Get Me In". After the 245th failed attempt to buy the legitimate 40 quid tickets, I had a look at "Get Me In" and lo and behold, tickets available ... ... at #247.50 each, PLUS #87 processing fee (no doubt straight into the Ticketmaster coffers). So if I've got #582.19 I can get two ACDC tickets for the MEN for next April. What a scam - surely Ticketmaster are pushing the boundaries of what is decent by offering this service less than an hour after tickets went on sale, with them the sole seller!!??
  18. Been trying for tickets for 25 mins - looks like this is going the same way as for Heebegeeby though ... Stoopid Ticketmaster.
  19. Yep - partly why we went midweek. And the person we met had put together a party of 6 for that very reason!!
  20. Two more fans of the Clog and Billy after eating there tonight - great food, efficient service, not too expensive - 8/10. And we bumped into another MB regular who had popped in to check it out and I think made a booking for the weekend ...
  21. I think you might be right. Picked up a rabbit on the way home from work, latterly of the Hoghton area, #3.50 jointed in front of my eyes and now ready to stew. Happy Friday ...
  22. 5 hour Metallica special tonight on Radio 1 from 7pm until midnight. Spurs v Villa will have to be on with the sound turned down ...
