  1. Um, maybe its just me but i have thought that MGP is an extremely good "tracker backer" to be honest. Points of comparison: Emerton, Reid, De Pedro (ha!), Thompson, Bentley, Mahon, Duff, Peter, Gillespie.

Out of all of those he has been the best IMHO.

Of that list I'd severely doubt Emerton and Mahon. I'd also suggest that you momentarily lost your mind when you included Reid, who has become fantastic at winning back the ball in midfield.

MGP will sometimes cover Gray when he disappears upfield on his suicide missions. In those situations he'll cover the left back position well enough, but then he never challenges anyone who subsequently attacks down that flank. Not even in the air, where he's very strong. I can't think of him ever winning a 50-50 through strength or determination.

Still there's no way I'd accept any offers for him, unless they were in the 7+ million region, and then I'd worry about who'd replace him. On form he's our best attacking midfielder, he has a great shot and free kick, plus his crosses are very good. To be honest, only his silly shots from corners annoyed me before he stopped scoring goals.

  2. If he didn't fall over so easily in one-on-ones I'm sure everyone would love him even through this bad patch of his.

    123.

I'd probably forgive him his recent inability to run/walk/stand up if only he would win a 50/50 challenge now and again. Or just challenge somebody on the opposition team. It's like playing with ten men once we're not in possession.

Edit: TNR, yes he does. Some girl who won Miss Norway a few years ago.

  3. I almost didn't go after freezing my knackers off at the 1-1 FA Cup game a few days previously, but at the last minute got a ticket. Upon arriving at the ground I had a bit of a rush of blood to the head and stuck a fiver on us to win 4-0, which was only scuppered by Michael effing Ricketts.

Best bit of the game was Jansen's superb one vs one with Steve Banks. Dummied a shot, the keeper dived, then Matt calmly chipped it over him and in. Absolutely class.

  4. Blatant cheating? Maybe the linesman just got it wrong? Nelsen was poking his foot between Mido's legs to try to reach the ball, and without the benefit of a million replays the linesman may have thought there was some contact. Even if he was only a yard away from the incident, he only saw it once. For the second goal the ref was behind Keane and, though he should still have seen it, he probably didn't. Oh well. It was probably a penalty anyway.

I was as annoyed as anyone else at the decisions after the game, but there's nothing anyone can do about it now.

  5. Btw- what happened to Tugay, whats his injury?

Apparently took a knock in training on Thursday and couldn't train on Friday. Hughes didn't seem too concerned when he mentioned it on Sky so hopefully he'll be back for Villa.

Don't think today's game was suited to him anyway, it was played at such an immense pace throughout, and there wasn't much space that he could have taken advantage of.

  6. I think the lancashire police should write a letter to the FA about Ferdinand holding his badge up to the bburn end - just as Neville got in trouble for doing it to the Liverpool fans.

Why? It was a bit of fun. We had a laugh at him, he tried to show us it wasn't affecting him - though it clearly was. Hardly caused a riot or anything. I still think Rio is a tosser, but why should players have to act like they're emotionally detached from the game? You can't take your shirt off anymore, or kiss your badge if any opposition fans are looking, or kung-fu kick supporters who call you names. It's silly.
