  1. I'm not worried about losing Ferguson. He is a great player, but if Souness was to come back in for him, the sort of money we would be talking about, probably somewhere around the 10 million mark, if spent well, would help improve the team.

He isnt worth that - we payed 7.5 million and most people said we had overpaid for him then!

What has he done to increase his value by a third in 14 months? Sweet Bugger All!

  2. As my gambling habits focus on an occassional Grand National office sweepstake and a raffle ticket at the cricket club annual prize night....................could someone please explain how Betfair works? I don't see any odds that I recognise in the traditional sense........2/1 etc sad.gifrolleyes.gif

It would be good to be able to keep up with this! huh.gif

Betfair is a bit different in terms of betting, basically you aren't betting against the bookie as in traditional betting, you are betting against other people.

You can choose either to back soemthing (which is traditional betting) or to lay something (which is what a bookie would do).

Crap explanation by me - so (courtesy of betfair)

When you back an outcome, you want that outcome to happen. For example, if you back Henman at Odds of 3.1 for £100, you want Henman to win. Your total return if he wins, is £310 (including your stake), and your maximum loss is £100 (your stake).

Laying an outcome is the opposite of backing it: it is betting that an outcome will NOT happen. This is what bookmakers traditionally do. For example, if you lay Derby County at Odds of 4.0 for £100, you think it is sufficiently unlikely that Derby will win that you offer Traditional Odds of 3/1 against it. Your total return, if Derby lose or draw, is £100 (i.e. the stake), and your maximum loss is £300 (which is what you would have to pay out). In effect you are accepting other people's bets who want Derby to win.

So where odds are quoted as 3. That would be the same as 2/1. (ie bet £100 - win £200 plus your stake back)

  3. according to pne fans MJ was due to sign for them along with a chelsea reserve but due to the sudden departure of Brown the deals were called off. Also stan turniphead has been at the ground today, saw him leaving via the players entracne at around 2pm

Isnt that according to the back page of the Evening Post?!?

  4. But I think as being part of Europe, even as a non-member of the EU, there should be no need for a work permit. At least this is what I would think.

I am fairly sure that they need a work permit. Norway isn't in the EU. At work we charge Norwegian students the full internation tuition fee rate.

Not that that has any bearing whatsoever on it.

  5. Anyone know about him calling the fans "smart arses" at lunchtime? A lot of very unhappy callers on Radio Lancs tonight. As one of them so succinctly put it "Souness can dish out the criticism but he can't take it."

I watched that interview live. HE was stood next to Paul Sturrock. The interviewer asked something along the lines of "what do you think of recent events at Southampton?"

He referred to people at the club shood be getting behing their manager and smart arse fans.

It it was about Rovers club andor fans and him it was a very well disguised comments. I suspect people weren't listening probably.

  6. Southampton take the lead in dubious fashion - an 'offside' Phillips toe-pokes home.

Shame as we'd been much the better side.

Offside? If you think that was offisde there is some vacancies going as Assistant referees on the Premier League.

What on earth was Brett "where am I playing again boss" Emerton doing. If your playing in defence, bloody defend. Dont just stand there.

Things aren't all bad, we are playing relatively well. Some good attacking pressure, but our defeence is once again looking shaky.

I'll never understand why MAtteo is on the left wing and Nissa is at centre half.

  7. How about a ticket stand in twon centre of blackburn, preston and accy?

How about having people hand out leaflets in towns.

Because a phone call is so difficult to make? How long would you want these three ticket stands to be there for? All summer? three ticket stands? staffed all day so 8 hours, from 9-5, for 10 weeks? by my calculations that would be...... the best part of £10,000 in staff costs alone for the club.... for what benefit? very little.....

And as for leaflets being handed out, where would most of them end up?

How else do you suggest Rovers target kids? They run soccer schools all season at Ewood, they go out to schools, clubs etc in the local ares, run coaching sessions, give free tickets away in the Darren End to schools near and far? What else can they do Mr Marketing Genius?

  8. 3000 Rovers fans. Good vocal support, shame North End didnt return a song!

Enckleman - good again, one or two worrying moments.

Reid - excellent first half, second half flagged.

Amo/Nissa - I was a fervent supporter of these two at half back. I think I was wrong. Nissa does not look confident on the ball and gave away another chance or two today.

    Gray - excellent.

Ferguson - solid again, his passing really is tremendous

Matteo - some wayward passing, but a solid player. I would really like to see him at Centre Half though please Graeme

Shagger - well he works hard, nothing of note again.

Yorke - again, good first half. played ok second half, annoyingly wont try and take players on often

Stead - not much to report. kept quiet

Dickov - well he runs around a lot, goal well taken, how he missed the shot in the front of the Kop I dont know!

A very lively game for the first 15 mins or so, then it died.

Far too hot for football, service downstairs was painfully slow, I gave up at half time after 10 mins of waiting.

  9. Anyone who is planning on driving down, the Toy Soldier is the best bet at Deepdale Retail Park, plenty of parking there (but it will take you a while to get out after the match.

Train, its a fair walk from the railway station to the ground, even broken up with pub stops. I am meeting a group of mates in Yates' in the City Centre and then getting a cab to the ground. Its only about £4 in a taxi or 95p each on the bus.

The town centre pubs can be a bit arsey with football fans, the Vic and the Railway are generally OK, directly outside the railway station. Spoons (The Greyfriar) wouldn't let me in on a none matchday as I was wearing my shirt!! Not sure if that is policy or an overzealous member of staff!!

The rest of the pubs on Friargate should be OK. MY particular favourite being Roper Hall on the right hand side.

I'll see you all at the ground.

Oh and if anyone gives two hoots, they are unveiling the Finney statue at 1pm.

  10. Enckleman - looked solid, no worries about him taking over from Brad

Neill - Worst player for us last night IMHO, his ball distribution is appalling, the only thing he got where he wanted it was the goal, which was superb. (Although mrs stuwilky thought it was a cross gone wrong!)

Amo - relatively solid, still worries me for pace.

Nissa - 'bout time he got a run in the first team, played well about from one or two little blunder, one of which nearly cost us a goal

    Gray - excellent again

Gresko - linked extremely well with Gray, needs to work on his shooting if he is going to keep doing it!

Ferguson - Personally I thougt he did well, very mobile and some pinpoint passing

Emerton - frustating, he can do it, why doesn't he?

Matteo - thought he was much better in the second half and Centre Half. His surging run creating the second goal

Yorke - again, one of the best players on the park. My concern, is he playing for us, or is he playing in the shop window? I can't stand the guy personally but he works hard then lets keep him.

Stead - quiet game for the lad, looks to have 'bulked' out a bit from last season and held defenders off reasonably well.

    SUBS

    Tugay - was just Tugay.

Dickov - not long enough to make an impact, he's a nippy little bugger though!

Gally - not sure how long he played yesterday, but he looked tired

Reid - has a habit of leaving us exposed at the back, looks confident going forward.

And a note on the new kit, if Dwight's number coming off last night is an indicator of the quality of the numbering dont do it!!

On a side note that tackle on Dickov waqs outrageous but can someone explain to me why he had to leave the field of play? My understanding was that if the player who committed the foul was booked you didn't have to leave?
