In that game alone there was that decision and Beckham's free kick being taken as our player was still on his way off the pitch.

Then you have the Saha handball before the Smith equaliser in 2004, the potential Scholes handball in the cup semi (not 100% on this one mind), the soft penalty to win them the league in 2011 at Ewood, not sending off their keeper in 2002/2003 (which would have resulted in a player in net).

I used to sit right behind the goal in the BBE and Scholes definitely hand-balled that in the cup semi.

By my reckoning, the second goal was 8 seconds after the restart, which makes it the fastest Rovers goal after a kick off I’ve ever seen. Can’t think of one anywhere near as quick.

I've watched this game at the in-laws today. The father in law went to pour the women a drink. He's missed both goals and thought I was taking the piss when he's heard me celebrating so quickly after the first goal 😂

I guess shirt numbers are a bit meaningless these days, but I'd expect #15 to be given to someone first team adjacent. Smacks of the 'automatically assign numbers' button in football manager.

Jansen was number 15 when he first came - so it's always a number I've liked.

I think it was the fact that there was even a mention of a salary for League 1 in the contract of a 'manager' of a well-established PL club that had been in the PL for a decade or so and never finished below 15th, most of the time a lot higher.

It'd be like somebody such as, I dunno, West Ham appointing somebody now and sticking a League 1 salary in there. Mental, just wouldn't happen.

It's the only Premier League manager contract I've seen - so not sure what is usually in there - but the contract is there to avoid any legal grey area should certain events happen. I'm sure Sunderland players had clauses in their contracts for reductions in wages for two relegations (based on the fact that a lot was made that Rodwell's salary was huge for League One) - so it might be a common 'covering their backs exercise'.

If the club terminated Kean's contract - they had to pay him 6 months of his basic salary within 7 days. If we'd have sacked him after we were relegated from the Premier League, we'd have had to pay him £300k. If he'd have overseen a second straight relegation, his salary would have been cut to £300k and the pay out he was due down to £150k.

There's not a chance you'd expect a manager to be allowed to remain in the position to oversee relegation from the Premier League to League One - but it doesn't mean you'd not put a clause in there for legal clarity.

He was set to be on 1.2 million a year plus the huge bonus payable for whatever as a Prem manager which is actually more than i said.

So i was correct as that was the intention, that was the contract he had, i never mentioned relegation i'm sure that wasn't part of the plan but he was still quids in anyway so didn't care either way.

His feet were firmly under the tale for the long haul as this unconfirmed contract quotes testify too plus the fact the extension was signed just as the brothers came over to try and sack him.

That stupid woman gets the blame for that she should've paid him off out of her own pocket.

The bonus £1,611,000 only kicked in from the 2013/14 season.

If we were in the Premier League in 2012/13 - he was due to be increased to the £1.2m a year basic PLUS £0.2m if we finished in the top 12. As it happened, we were relegated in 11/12 - so his salary was dropped to £0.6m.

Still, entirely more than he deserved and we were absolutely played.

No he just got a pay off instead but had he hung around his wages for that season would've been over 2 million.

Wasn't the huge nobody knows what it was for bonus written in for every season regardless or 3 years or something ?

Don't forget Nixons piece when he was well connected stating Kean would've earned around 10 million at Ewood had he served his full contract.

It was a 100% scam from start to finish and 100 grand a year was too much for that clueless youth coach.

Bizarrely you seem like you are looking to defend him here, him and his agent ripped the club, owners and fans off and they were a pair of twats however much his contract did or didn't add up to.

    Enough already.

Absolutely not trying to defend him. Just pointing out that he didn't earn any bonus in the 11/12 season.

You stated he went to be a £2.5m a year Premier League manager - which wasn't the case. He was on £1m in the 11/12 season and his salary dropped to £600k in the 12/13 season. There was no bonus for relegation. Facts.

Still way more than he was worth and an utterly corrupt set up - I entirely agree with you.

I don't think that's true. However there were reported to be bonuses for promotions from divisions below the Premier League which of course could only ever be gained if we had been relegated.

There is even a provision in the contract of what salary Kean would be paid if we were relegated to League One. There was absolutely no incentive for him to get relegated though.

Wasn't there a "small" bonus for relegation?

    Nothing that I can see.

Basic salary was £1,000,000 in 11/12 - which was increased to £1,200,000 in 12/13 if we remained in the Premier League, but dropped to £600,000 if we were relegated. There was a promotion bonus available of £500,000 if we were promoted in 12/13 - but he'd have been financially better off keeping the club up in 11/12.

He was due to be paid £2,000,000 per season basic from 15/16 if we were still in the Premier League - plus the £1,611,000 additional bonus with no performance criteria attached. Frightening.

He can be frustrating, but to say he has no right foot, no vision & no end product are just plain wrong.

To let him leave for nothing, or for peanuts, is a decision we'd almost certainly regret in time. Let's not be like the Nobbers eh?!

According to the BBC club top scorers page - he got 6 goals and 7 assists last season - so 13 goal contributions.

North End's top goal contributions were:

    Evans - 10

    Cannon - 9

    Potts - 7

    Riis - 5

    Whiteman - 5

So pretty sure they'd have liked to have kept him.

We should definitely look to keep him.

You've missed the bonuses they added which basically doubled it and were still payable after relegation i believe.

    The bonuses were:

£200,000 if the club finished in the top 12 - failed in 11/12

£200,000 if the club qualified for the Europa League - failed in 11/12

£200,000 if the club qualified for the Champions League group stages by finishing in the top 4 - failed in 11/12

£100,000 if they won the FA Cup - failed in 11/12

£100,000 if they won the League Cup - failed in 11/12

£1,611,000 - for the 13/14 season with no target attached and didn't specify which division we had to be in (he left in September 2012, so wouldn't have got that).

Kean went from the dole to BRFC bibs and cones man on probably 40k a year thanks to Allardyce and probably someone at the club doing Anderson a favour.

He then rapidly went from that to a 2.5 million pound a year Prem manager.

If that doesn't tell the whole stinking story nothing does.

He was on a basic salary of £1m for the 11/12 season, which dropped to £600k per annum in 12/13 after being relegated.

    Still not a bad number.

He did look well off it but in fairness pretty much everyone was shite and simply blowing out the cobwebs. Also didn't help that they had a couple of insane trialists putting in some very robust attempted "tackles"

It wasn't even just the trialists. That Tommy Leigh looked like a complete weapon.

They are one of the smaller sides in the Austrian top division, probably a bottom 4 team (12 team top division), but a very impressive couple of performances by the sounds of things, and they can only beat what is in front of them

I'd be interested to compare the line ups against the team they put out against Nuremberg 10 days ago. Nuremberg just drew with Arsenal.
