If you believe that teams look ahead to who they might play in the knock out stages and try and act accordingly then Belgium v England could end up being a Monty Python match with Belgium playing for a draw and England trying to lose. Also, do Brazil care who they play next? Surely they would want to avoid Germany? If they do they might end up playing for a draw against Serbia and let Switzerland take the group. As I said some days ago . . for all the hustle and bussle of the 'unfancied teams', if you'd missed the first 10 days of the W.C. and looked at the knock out round fixtures you'd be all 'meh, how obvious, at least the real World Cup can start now'.
