  1. We have tended to keep our cool, yes, which I am impressed with too.

That pinch on Sterling late on is an old trick, pinch the midriff purposely to draw out an arm swinging reaction - look how that Columbian (yes i spelt it wrong on purpose) fell over like he been hit by a baseball bat.

Nothing happening in midfield. I only realised Alli was playing after about 40 minutes. Lingard only in it in brief touches, Sterling losing the ball every time, nothing new there. Henderson just a spear carrier in midfield. Wing backs not getting forward enough. Apart from that we're doing great.

Even with all that - this lot are there for the taking imo.

Sterling - every single time i watch him for England - he is the same. Runs into brick walls - where is the man city version of this guy?

Can't remember who mentioned it, but someone on here made the point of Armstrong has to learn to play the Inside Forward/Right Winger position. So many teams like us are playing the 4-2-3-1, he simply doesn't have the stature to play as a lone striker.

I wanna see a fast counter attacking team with Chapman and Armstrong providing the pace out wide.

I have thought this for some time. Its almost as if he is a generation too late. 15 years ago he could well be plying his trade in the PL back when front twos were commonplace. Not too disimilar to a Michael Owen type.

With one up top being practically the norm these days, small nippy players like him will find it difficult as they do not have the physicality to play the lone role and need a partner.

If I were him, I would do my best to learn and master the inside forward role that he has now as getting a striking berth is going to be tough for him.

I think its his only option, he will not get many striking spots in the Championship as one up top is the trend. Would work best in a little and big strike partnership but this is seen less and less these days.

I agree that his pace would be sensational on the break with Chapman and Dack is not slow either.

My only concern is his hit and miss goalscoring record. Never better than 1 in 3.

Wonder how much Jack Marriott would set us back?

True but 1 in 3 is not bad for a target man type, Graham got a similar ratio the season just gone and that was a division lower. As long as he can hold the ball well enough to bring the the 3 behind into play and net a decent amount - id be more than happy.

No, but I wouldn't put him on the right either: or in the team at all.

I would play Bennett down the left and Chapman down the right.

Bennett on the left? I know he can play a number of positions but never seen him anywhere on the left.

Think I would rather just sign a left winger.

  6. So that really should be that for central midfield now?

Davenport will obviously be in direct competition with the likes of Smallwood, Bennett, Evans, Whittingham and Tomlinson. Travis and Lenihan can also play there if required. Really think Tomlinson needs a season on loan somewhere in league 1 where he will feature regularly. Rothwell I feel is being brought in to play as one of the three behind Graham but he can also play in the middle.

So whats the outlay so far? 500k + a couple hundred for Rothwell?

We were told a bit more than last year, so even with an estimate of 3 mill, we would still have a couple mil left plus change. Two wingers and a striker would be my wishlist with that lot.

  7. Not sure where all this 'running the player into the ground' has come from tbh.

People were commenting on initial links saying that it will be a loan move. Most were saying they are not overly happy with another teenager loan after the likes of Harper, Byrne and the like in recent years and that they would be happier if it was a permanent signing. Do not think anyone questioned the kids talent just the type of signing in looked like it might be - a loan move for a teenager in a position we are already quite stocked in.

Anyway Skip, I know you have links to the kids game, do we have something here, is this kid someone that could go on to become a top player? Obvioulsy tought to break in anywhere at City.

Stuart has been arguing for some time that Travis's main position was RB/WB but was often shouted down by others that he was a CM. You have cemented his claims.

  10. So happy this a permanent deal and not another teenager loan - by all accounts this kid is very highly rated, played half a season in the championsjip last season and was a standout in the team he played for. In fact, i read a Burton tweet where they were claiming his debut was the best they ever saw (okay, perhaps hyperbole but surely stands in good stead).

Young, value, potential - exactly how the club should be operating.

Will he start? He must have a good chance, perm fixture in Burton, even if not he will certainly be pushing what we have.

Now we need some WINGERS please, and a striker or two.
