Who the hell is Platt? We need to stop including untested youth players in our summations, especially in positions where experience is essential like centre half. Ward is injury prone. Mulgrew is too. Lenihan and Mulgrew are actually natural midfielders, though both do play very well at CH. I'd consider those two the most likely candidates for last minute departures if that happens. I want to see us blood some youth in this league, but I also want to see us promoted!

Exactly, there will be a sting in the tail at some point and I expect it to be either Mulgrew or Lenihan. Platt doesnt count, perhaps Wharton as he played a bit but I still feel we need cover there. The last thing we need is a key player going near the end of the window and we're not able to replace them sufficiently.

  2. Not a pity at all. He was not worth his wage in midfield or at RB. Has the ever-present captain, picked by every single manager been snapped up by anyone yet?

As for upfront, would be nice to get Gallagher in again as I reckon he would tear up L1 but Champs teams would be interested. If not him, id want someone pacey upfront.

We don't need 2 centre halves at the moment though

Correct, we will probably need them with two days to go until the season starts knowing this lot.

But yes there are more pressing holes to fill in terms of numbers, a RB, couple of strikers and a winger ideally.

Chaddy seems to think it is 4-2-3-1 that TM will be lining up as. Despite his use of 3 at the back throughout his managerial career of course.

I think Nixon may have said something once.

Ah okay...I stand corrected on that then. Cant keep up sometimes...seen a bunch of formations quoted.

Still, should we lose 2 we will need 2.

Why do we need 2 center halves? We have Mulgrew, Lenihan, Ward, Wharton and Williams can also play there

Yes I expect some of them to go and according to oracle Chaddy we will be playing 3 at the back, plus Mulgrew and Lenihan can play midfield so expect them to step in there when needed. We have a tiny squad afterall.

Players are being signed for the formation we will be using this season whilst as last summer recruitment seem to be all over the place and players not signed for the formation we were playing. Under Coyle first few games we played 3 different formation in 6 games which is crazy.

Under Mowbray he appears to be know what his 1st choice formation will be which I think will be 4-2-3-1 formation. You see us signed Smallwood and Whittingham to play the 2 centre midfield roles. Plus the links with Bostock,  Oztumer and Dack who can play the 10 role in that formation

Or he could have signed him because we need another defensive minded midfielder after getting shot of a bunch. Just like I hope he gets two centre defenders in and some strikers since we need them. Let me get this in before you though - I reckon the next player he signs will be signed to play in a certain position (just so I can say told you so after).

Of course he has in mind a formation he would like to play - all managers do. Even Coyle would have, its just he was a &*%^ manager that couldnt get anything to work.

Being saying this from when he was going to sign here, signed here for a specific role within the team and style

All players are signed for a specific role/purpose. Not like you gonna sign a striker and put him in goal. He is a defensive midfielder - its bleeding obvious what his role would be. So that's hardly something to put a feather in your arrogant cap really is it?

I know better sometimes and I'm assured in how a business or project should be operated so within myself I'm comfortable of that, I don't look at the short term but overall impact.

Yeah, whatever, look at me kinda stuff, but you call out others for a lack of ambition such as we should not be spending this on a 33 year old experienced and well reagrded pro as he wont cut it next year in Championship, its not financially viable blah blah blah. Then at same time you knock Smallwodd (which I actually have my reservations about) that he is not good enough for such a great club and we should be out there buying Messi instead.

Surely ambition is getting out of the league right? You cant have it both ways! get out of the league and take it from there.

!Your logic says dont spend money BUT spend money!

  9. I know its hardly inspiring compared to the sort of signing we were making 8 years ago and before and I doubted this one would even come off. However, he is an UPGRADE - how many times are we able to say that these days? I know its hardly difficult to upgrade on the likes of Lowe, Akpan etc etc but its still an upgrade even if he is passed his 20 goal a season from midfield best. Scored 20 goals the last time Cardiff were promoted, that's insane.

Plus Championship Team of the Year 3 times, Championship Team of the Decade. Their fans would still have him in their starting 11, cannot believe the club are even letting him go, and believe he will easily be the best player in league 1 next season.

I'm not sure I'd heard of him before, if I'm being honest! I probably have, in passing... Pun.

Sounds like a decent signing, but I cringe slightly on how the Rovers official article butters us up on his achievements from 2, 4, 5, and 9 years ago. #CynicAlert

    Anyway, welcome!

He still got 7 goals and 7 assists from 28 games last season (9 from the bench). Definite upgrade on what we have and HAVE had in midfield for quite some time.

I'm sorry but it's only because he is local, I thought Fabio nunes and josh Morris had a lot better cameos. Mahoney was good for the last 15mins in a few games that's all.

Google Nunes to see the wonderful career he is having. Same could be said for most of the portugeezers (and Vucksevic) that were brought here being lauded as half-decent footballers. Mahoney is a local lad, 20 years old, and has good potential - which will see him snapped up somewhere else (probably Championship level) whereas i dont recall anyone else int his league or any other in the UK wanting Nunes.
