The key words to me are intensity and speed. Prior to Bennett moving inside our sedate central midfield pace meant the opposition could control that area of the pitch for long periods in a game. Now we are at them from minute one. Mowbray can take some credit for this but for me he kind of stumbled across it because of injuries.

He certainly did stumble upon it - but he instantly tried to dismiss it by saying he still sees Benno as a wide player (then plays him centrally the next game anyway).

Fair play though - I dont recall many of us suggesting Bennett centrally, few calls for right back but thats it.

He is an excellent partner for Smallwood and it his position to lose now in my opinion. However - should Lowe (yeah him again) come in, that position just has to be his as we have been lacking a backwards/sidewards passer since Evans got injured and that is not an easy skill to replace.

My thoughts too about him sticking around particularly if he’s happy living in Wrea Green and his kids are at school there and settled. Mind you the contributors on that Ribble FM show mentioned on another thread think he will only be good for another season should we get promoted!

He seems very happy in any interviews i see him in. Seems settled and you can tell that he probably sees us as his last adventure. Excellent captain (especially compared to Lowe) and Downing has basically admitted that his own form is down to Mulgrew and learning from him.

Seems to be a top guy. A centre back with the technique and finess of a top quality centre-midfielder.

  3. I don't think fines would work - there would be all kinds of legal who-ha about it. 500k fines if a player is adamant he didnt cheat and it might just look a bit like a dive - it would all be too contentous when money is involved.

Id say put it on the clubs. Instant three match ban if deemed to be diving, rises by one for each further offence, so 4, 5, 6 etc. Clubs would then have no chance but to stamp it out of their players.

You'd presume if they're talking about a million then he must has a contract of some kind.  However the Rich Sharpe article today suggests he doesn't have a pro contract yet.  Don't know the exact figures but there are set fees now for players dependent upon length of time at the club, category of academy etc, it's been one of the criticisms of the new EPP as it lets the big clubs come in and pick up 15/16 yr olds for peanuts.  I'd say unless we get him to sign up we'll be getting nothing like a million sadly.

Hopefully the kid will remember that Everton deemed him not good enough and dumped him off. He has since obviously developed and improved enough for them to now want him back. Firstly he should remember that we were there to give him a second chance and secondly, it was within our academy where he saw this development and improvement to now make him one of the most in demand kids of his age group in this country.

If I was him I would stay put and continue to take advantage of the further increasing development that we are helping him to achieve. Plus - a far greater chance of breaking into the first team and getting minutes under his belt.

It says 'signed 1/7/16' according to his profile. He came to the club before that so it could relate to the date he signed a Pro contract.

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/everton-make-offer-blackburn-rovers-14166292

That article above says he left Everton in 2013. So ether they are wrong, the writer who filled his profile on the club website is wrong - or 2016 is the date he perhaps signed a contract.

Also, if they released him in the 2015/16 season, he must have developed extremely quickly within a year and a half for them coming back to get him for a mil.

Was hoping for a more assured forward to come in to push the club over the promotion line who'd done it at a higher level on a consistant basis not some struggling rookie with a broken record.

Venkys and wankdog agents our demise.

Like who? We need somebody that can score goals at this level and he has previously proven he can. Whether he can score goals at a higher level is irrelevant as he is a loan signing anyway.

I am open for suggestions on who this more assured forward could be that has done it at a higher level consistently but would be willing to step down to tier 3.

The clubs he'd played for haven't done anything on the pitch and his record doesn't appear to be anything special so wheres the progression of Rovers football club with this player.

Not quite sure what you are getting at but he was brought in for a position we need filling with Antonssons injury and the not so good performance of a couple of strikers. He has a proven strike ratio in this league for someone so young and raw pace of which we have been crying out for.  If he helps us to get automatic promotion - there is the progression of Blackburn Rovers Football Club.

    Why not ?

He is highly rated up there but splits fans opinions. Some want him in the team now others want him to pick experience on loan whiles others want shot. I doubt they are looking to sell and rather that he develops. People have been mentioning that there might possibly even be a playing clause in the contract.

Anyway ask TM, not me. I just dont think it seems like a loan with a view to a move.

I agree . Doyle should be in front of hart in the pecking order. Hart should never have signed. I don't know who he knows but to play at Liverpool even at youth level into his 20s and then get a move here , someone owes someone a favor.

Having seen nuttall play u23 and first team football im not sure I would even offer him a contract being honest.

Agree with the sentiment though, that we need proper seasoned players and have the young lads around the fringes , coming off the bench etc.

Without trying to contradict myself are we not better playing the likes of Tomlinson over Evans and whittingham. If you factor in the wages of Evans and whitts, plus age and how injury prone they are, I'd even question whittinghams desire at times, to a young local lad, on low wages (which would of freed up a decent wage for a winger at the start of the season) Passionate with the potential to grow and improve. The other two don't put in better performances even with all their experience. I suppose TM would be damned if he did damned when he doesn't. Ala nuttall

You wouldnt give Nuttall a contract? I agree he still needs to develop a bit more but he did score for fun at u23 level and has bagged a few in the first team. Im not sure that Samuel is much better than him and we paid half a mil. Keep him as he is as a bit part player from the bench (and Tomlinson) and hopefully he will improve.

  10. Soon we will be able to text in at two quid a time to decide whether it was a penalty or not.

Not in favour of this. Is there going to be any point of even having a referee anymore apart from blowing his whistle at the command of a security guard watching cctv?

Dodgy refs, dodgy decisions - thats part and parcel of football and keeps the debate open.

  11. Said for a while now that every time i see Tomlinson i'm impressed and I have a feeling he can really make the step up. He has good energy in the middle and has been known to hit some great goals for the u23s. He is quite similar to Smallwood in many ways - which aint a bad thing at all. He has a chance now to cement himself in the managers thoughts and at least become a regular sub.

Blackburn Rovers Football Club should not be in league one, that much is clear. Our away followings this season are probably bigger than most of the leagues away followings combined, but maybe this is what we needed after 7 years of utter shite, I know it's league one but Jesus I'm not half enjoying going to away games and watching us win games of football, there's a real good feeling at the minute, maybe a promotion season is just what the doctor ordered because I feel a lot better right now than I did at this point last season under Coyle and we were a league above! Of course we wouldn't be in this league if we didn't have the owners we do and that should not be forgotten but we do have these owners, and although I'll always despise them this is the first time I've actually been able to enjoy watching rovers since they took over which helps to temporality at least, forget the damage they've caused our club. Enjoy this season lads and WHEN we get promoted, hopefully Mowbray gets backed and we can have a go next season in the championship. I love this club and our fans and league one or not, we should be able to enjoy winning games and going too games. We'll all still be here long after Venkys fook off. Not sure what point I was making here I've been on the beers but whatever, COYB Big fish in a small pond this season. :brfc:

    Class post chip...enjoy those beers!

Yeah, he seems to be the heartbeat of the team. When he plays well the team plays well.

It really makes you wonder how Lowe had managed to be a central figure in this team for so many years. This guy is everything that Lowe is not. I admit I was hardly inspired by the signing but wow has he said shoved that down my throat.

I'd say signing of the season with Dack close behind just because he was free.
