Not sure how many of you on the board know @pk1875 (Paul to his friends) but he’s currently in hospital suffering quite badly due to Coronavirus.

If you get a minute to say a prayer or send positive vibes he could really do with them right now.

I'm sure I speak for all of the Claret & Blue persuasion in sending our best wishes to " @pk1875 ", and indeed everyone else affected by this horrible virus.

Keep safe, one and all !!

The 90s were a good vintage for English strikers. Shearer, Sherringham, Wright, Fowler, collymore, Cole, Ferdinand, Sutton of the same era. If any of those had their time during the heskey years they’d have had dozens more caps.

Hmm .... Collymore and Sutton ? Four England Caps and zero goals between them, more " Vin de Table " than " Vintage " imho ...... ?

I will. Go Jay McEveley Played for Scotland I think? The lad we should have signed Jones!

Jay McEverley won 3 Caps for Scotland, played for both, but his career has not, as yet, spanned 3 different decades of appearances in the Football League ...

With two to get, here's a clue for each ...

    a) Developed in Blackburn's Youth system, he played his first League game for Rovers, and his last for Burnley in Stan Ternent's last game in charge ...

    b) This player had much more success with another " Claret & Blue " Club, than he ever did at Turf Moor !

I think that should do it ! ?

Crikey, there’s a lot going on here...! Let’s break it down...

    1. The Ground is owned by the club which is owned by Venky’s London. It’s therefore theirs to do with as they wish, except...
    2. The ACV is a separate instrument aimed at protecting the site & was taken out by Rovers Trust. All the ACV does is buy some time to raise some money in reality.
    3. There are threads on here castigating Venky’s for not selling the ground to raise money for a promotion push so whatever they do, they’re on a hiding to nothing. Given the lack of trust between owners and fans, whatever they do is seen as nefarious by at least some fans.
    4. I struggle to believe the land & buildings around Ewood are worth a great deal to be honest (compared to the location of other stadia around the country). Venky’s are only ever going to get their money back by getting us in the PL. Selling all the club’s assets will barely make a dent into what they’ve had to put in to keep us going. Makes no sense so to do.

The really interesting point is that the club needs to raise turnover (income) & investing it facilities will help to achieve that. Waggott says the owners are willing to invest...so why not redevelop it with income-generating facilities ?

    In peace as ever ..

In terms of value, the land & buildings owned by Venkys, around and including the Stadium is in exactly the same position as that at Turf Moor. Unless,it's buyer wishes to use the existing buildings as a stadium for professional football, it's all but worthless ! By the time a developer has demolished and levelled the site, you're only left with a brownfield site, which with all respect, is not in the best of areas. There's no profit, and what's more, which developer needs the hassle of being the one's who demolished over a Century of memories ?

I suspect any redevelopment will wait until a) EPL football and b) a ruling on safe-standing ...

Some of you will be aware that the two corners at Turf Moor at the old Bee-hole end, have been redeveloped for supporters who live with disabilities & their families/carers. We delayed this pending a the release of new requirements The new facilities include more wheelchair spaces over 3 levels, with fixed seating for families to sit together, a " Changing places " facility and a sensory room. I suspect any further re-development, ( Cricket - Field stand ), will be awaiting the go-head for safe standing ...

A claret Legend and very good friend of mine Brian Pilkington, was diagnosed with this, quite some ago. He now requires care and lives in a care home as a result. I had a message from one of his family members earlier today, to say he is very ill right now.

As you rightly say, it puts the silliness around local rivalries into perspective and shows how precious life is and how an illness like this, can strike anyone.

So sorry to hear that Brian had passed away this afternoon, RIP !

    3 April 1976   Rovers v Luton    3-0    Parkes, Waddington, Beamish     Att 7911

Doesn't say if was in the Darwen End goal though

I was 13 or so then, living in Clitheroe and Dad and I used to go on the Riverside occasionally ( Dad and Lad £1.30 !! )

I have a distinct memory of Luton's Ron Futcher putting his weight about, elbows etc until, as he was trying to get up, a Rovers player ran past him and trod on his hand. He went beserk ! The Riverside burst out laughing as the Rovers player jogged past, his hand cupped over his mouth as if stifling his laughter. It was either this game, or the 1-0 win the year after. I'm not sure who it was, possibly Stuart Metcalfe .... funny as owt !

The guys on your forum have been class - so, much respect for that. Rivalries, banter, and the like will always go on but it shows that we are all a football family when stuff like this happens.

Still want you to go down though ;)

I liked Billy Connolly's quote on Football rivalry, " We've all got the virus, but we've just got a different strain of it ! "

But, and I'm sure you'll appreciate this, come on Fulham ! ?

    Thanks for the feedback, appreciated

" In fact, if you've got a moment, it's a 12 story Crisis, with a magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24 hour porterage and an enormous sign on the roof saying " This is a large crisis " ! A large crisis calls for a large plan ! Get me 2 pencils and a pair of underpants.. "

Very much enjoying your columns, " Herbie6590 ", I'm sure the 1970's English Department at your  " alma mata " would be purring in approval !!

Douglas and Finney were in a league of their own.

    In peace, as ever ...

It's very difficult to judge players from across the generations ... but you can only view them against their peers, and the game as it was then. How good would Matthews, Finney, Douglas and McIlroy be today with modern preparation, better medical treatment, lighter kit & balls, the protection from bad fouls, and playing on pitches that they would regard as " bowling greens " in comparison to what they played on after November each year ?

I enjoy reading about the games' history .... A lot has been posted about Tom Finney, who I had the privilege of meeting a couple of times, and Brian Douglas ( understandably feted on this  Forum ) . Jimmy McIlroy, who passed away just over a year ago, was a gentle modest man, who received accolades late on in his life, ( MBE, Freedom of the Borough, National Football Hall of Fame and a stand named after him ) . He always said these were not just for him, but for " my  lovely lads I played with ", particularly the title winning side of 1959-60. In his last auto-biography, Stan Matthews said of Ilroy, " Some players could make the ball talk, McIlroy could make it recite Shakespeare " !

Stan Mortenson was always sanguine when his FA Cup final hat-trick was often overlooked when the 1953 final became known as the " Matthews final " . He would often joke that ," When I eventually pop my clogs, they'll probably call it the " Matthews funeral " !
