Yeah the way the question is worded I would probably go with either Inverness Caley Thistle or Grimsby. Blackpool must be pretty close too.
To clarify, it's any Club playing in a National League in Great Britain .....

They lack a quality striker/forward who will score goals for them. Barnes and Rodriguez won't score 10 between them
15 between them maybe, but I agree 100% with the thrust of your argument !

The answers are all either the name of a British Club or Ground ..... good luck !
1) Which Club's move to a new ground was prompted by a Suffragette fire bomb, that burnt down the main stand in 1913 ?
2) Which Club bought a Grandstand from a race-course that shut in 1962, and moved the whole structure, taking nearly 6 years to rebuild it ?
3) What Club's redevelopment during the 1990's led to the discovery of a body, and a subsequent conviction for murder ?
4) Which Club spent nearly 25 years trying to sue the German Government for fire damage following fire-bombing by a Zeppelin in November 1916, before realising that they were wasting their time, when the " dastardly Hun " bombed them again in December 1940 ?
5) Which Club bought a stand from their local rivals in 1910, and floated it across the river to its new home ?
6) Which ground, built in the post-war years, was designed to hold 80,000 and optimistically nicknamed, " The Wembley of the North ", before being drastically scaled back when the money ran out ?
7) Which ground holds the UK and European record for an official Football attendance ?
😎 Dumfries and Palmerston Park are the home of which Club ?
9) For many years, Fred Davies & his family used to retrieve balls from the river, that ran alongside which Club's ground ?
10) The White City Stadium, originally built for the 1908 Olympics, hosted just one game in the 1966 World Cup Group stages, because Wembley's owners refused to reschedule a Greyhound meeting ! Which London Club had two spells at White City, the last being 1962-63, before deciding to stay at their original ground, where they still play today ?
11) Which British Professional Club's ground is nearest the sea ?-

In these difficult times ..... the fuel prices, domestic energy price increases, a possible drought in the North-West, the post-Covid economic issues and the Political vacuum, I think it's important to concentrate on what unites us, rather than what divides us ...
That was extremely entertaining, funny as f**k, and as for Gary Neville's face at half-time .... Don't get me wrong, they can't be that bad all season, but let us all enjoy it while we can !!

This statue idea is certainly on the radar of the Rovers Trust. Didn't the great man even die of a heart attack just after managing us to a 3-2 win over Burnley? That's almost as good as getting shot dead at the age of 99 by a jealous husband!
Thought you'd appreciate this poem by Roger McGough ...
Let me die a young man's death
not a clean and in-between
the sheets holy water death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death
When I'm 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an all-night party
Or when I'm 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber's chair
may rival gangsters
with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides
Or when I'm 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one
Let me die a young man's death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
'what a nice way to go' death-

Yes Ted died at a young age. I think it was motor neurone that he died from though, not MS. He did bravely carry on working, after his diagnosis too and fought in typical fashion, right to the end.
You are of course, correct ! I mis-remembered ...

I didn't know John, but suspect he will have known the late Ted Cooper, if he was prominent at Blackburn RUFC.
He was a teacher when I was at school and was rugby mad.
E.V. Cooper ( Ted ) was 1st XV Captain from 1971-73, and again for Blackburn Rugby Club's Centenary season in 1977-78. He lived in Brinscall and was a fine attacking Full-Back with a wicked sidestep. Those who remember him will know that he was taken far too young by Multiple Sclerosis .
Both John & Ted were on the youth & mini Rugby Committee together, giving up their Sundays to coach ..

I was really saddened to learn of the passing of John Whitney, who worked for Rovers for over 20 years, following his retirement from Lancashire Police.
John and I first met in 1978 when I started playing Under 16's Rugby at Blackburn RUFC, and he was Chairman of the mini/junior section. At 6'4" and an ex 2nd Row forward, he was always interested in how I was doing, and was the first to buy me a beer after my 1st XV debut in the 2nd Row, aged 21. Anyone involved in amateur sport be it Football, Cricket or Rugby, knows how much Clubs rely on unpaid volunteers, and John put countless hours in as a coach, referee, fixture secretary and later as the Club's Representative at the Lancashire RFU. He had been a " Vice-President " there since 1981.
He initially worked for Rovers as a " Steward ", but basically it was his role to prevent any trouble in the tunnel area. Even in his later years, John was an imposing figure and I suspect he defused a few situations. He had a wicked sense of humour and could be gloriously " un-PC " on occasion ...
Rest in Peace, John 😢

Apologies to both of you.
You're still screwed though!

Will remember to repost this in the highly unlikely event that we've clinched the Championship title by Easter 2023 !! 😁

Now now Chris, don't get cheeky, and there was me feeling sorry for you (for all of about 2 seconds) last night!
Hopefully from our point of view over the next two or three seasons we'll see the difference between our owners who despite their many and well documented faults appear able to absorb a £200m loss without batting an eyelid and yours who seem intent on fleecing the Club at a fairly exorbitant rate of interest.
Hi Revidge,
I think you may be confusing me ( Sympathetic Claret ) with my fellow supporter ( Longsiders1882 ) ... unless you know both of us and we're both called Chris !! Good to know it's not just me having " senior moments " ... 😁
Keep well, pal !

Occasional posting Claret in peace as ever ... took a couple of hours to reflect on events
Well it's come to an end ... it's been on the cards for 18 months, and frankly, if you only win 7 out of 38 games you don't deserve to stay up ! Good to see you lads enjoying the " Schadenfreude " ... as we would, of course !
Obviously, we need to see who we can retain next season, Tarkowski is a free agent and will go, probably Cornet and almost definitely, Pope ... we should get decent fees for both. If the yank owners have anything about them, they'll re-negotiate the loan, possibly with a debt/equity swap, and give us a fighting chance of bouncing back.
From t'Rovers point of view, the owners aren't in any hurry to stop the funding but it'll be interesting to see who we'll both appoint next ...
At least we'll have no " staying up " bonus's to pay and those under contract will have their relegation clauses kicking in, let's see who's up for the scrap next year ! Looking forward to the Blackburn, Preston and Blackpool " Derbies " ...
Enjoy your summer, and all best wishes to you and yours ...

Waggott will be creaming himself at the thought of 8,000 Evertonians at £32 a pop!
Yep, judging by the last set of Venky's London Ltd's accounts, that should cover about 4 days of operating losses ....

The other " X factor " in this is Leeds United .....
Burnley are now only two points behind Leeds, but with a 14 goal better goal/difference. Leeds have Crystal Palace ( A ) tomorrow night followed by ....
Manchester City ( H )
Arsenal ( A )
Chelsea ( H )
Brighton ( H )
Brentford ( A )
Very easy to make a case that Leeds will still be on 33/34 points with just two games left, and a still worse goal difference !!

Yes, imagine being an Everton player or supporter right now.
Just what they didn’t need before entering the lion’s den.
It would be a culture shock for them, the last time they played in anything other than the top tier of English football, was 29th April 1954. Jerry Seinfeld was born that day, Churchill was Prime Minister, and an 19 year old truck driver from Memphis, called Elvis Presley was still 11 weeks away from recording his first hit, " That's all right, Mama " ...
So, it's been a while ! In normal times, relegation would be a blow, but with wealthy owners and a huge fanbase they would be expected to return to the EPL in short order. However, their Chairman's chief funder, Alisher Usmanov is subject to sanctions due to the Ukrainian conflict, they also have the new stadium underway and I doubt many if any of their playing staff will have relegation clauses in their contracts ...
A long way to go yet, mind you .... the trouble is with following Burnley, it's the hope that " kills you " ... 😁

what will Burnley do over the manager situation and should they leave Jackson in charge or appoint a new manager? what would you do @longsiders1882 @sympatheticclaret? Also what do you think of your club interest in Slavic Bilic and Carlos Carvalhal? Would you be happy with either of them?
To be honest, I wouldn't profess to know enough .... I don't think we need someone coming in and try to change systems, tactics and personnel at this point. The last two games have seen us revert to playing to our strengths, the return of Cork to midfield seems to have helped.
The one thing we'll always see from this squad is 100% effort, and we'll have to see if that's enough for a " Great Escape " ...

I was actually born in Burnley. I have never forgiven my parents. I don't mind the dingles too much. Can't stand Preston. Though I would be happy to see them relegated
Over the foreseeable future, you may well become a fore-runner of many. Whilst the East Lancs NHS Trust do have birthing facilities in Blackburn & Rossendale, any potential births within the Trust's catchment area considered a higher risk for whatever reason are now usually sent to the Central Birth suite, situated at Burnley General, where the specialist care is considered amongst the best in England ..

I also have a lot of Rovers fans I count as good friends,, having been a member at Blackburn Rugby Club for over 40 years ...
Lots of good natured joshing, on the receiving end in the mid 1990's when Rovers were in their prime, although the odd opportunity for a dig back presented itself, Trelleborgs etc ... Things have rather swung the other way over the last decade, though, a fellow Claret was checking the scores on his phone at a 1st XV game last season, when a Rovers fan leaned in, " How are Rovers doing ? " ..... " Not sure, mate, I don't follow lower league football " ..
I would add that this season, we've not been quite so " brave " ... the thought of Rovers passing us by going up as we get relegated, is about as palatable for us, as it would be for Rovers fans should the situation be reversed ..
Enjoy the rest of the season all ....

The game in hand is Everton's visit to Liverpool this weekend .... a 1-1 draw isn't uncommon in the Merseyside Derby, but obviously I hope Mr Salah and his mates fill their boots on Sunday ... 😀

No way is Ossie a fecking Claret! Yeh, I know him but haven’t spoken to him in over 20 years. I supported ‘Ginge’ following his horrific tumble whilst doing his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s and shattered his jaw.
You’re right re Mark Williams btw (not Mike)
I’m still in contact with Phil Hendricks too, ex Stiff, now a Bay City Roller! 🤣
Edit: I’ve just sought a second opinion re Ossie: he was a claret, that makes four of yah!
Just had a long E-mail from Ossie Young. He's narrowed you down to initials, both of which are NM, which isn't ideal ... one of the " Darwen feckers ", as he so beautifully put it . So, are you the Goalkeeper, or named after a well known " law " ?
He recalls Craig Mann's parents buying him a Sunbeam Alpine in the 6th form, and fumes " he didn't need that much help getting girls anyway, the git ! " 😄 Ossie sends his regards, and has asked me to tell you that he still speaks regularly to Pete Collins, now of Connecticut.
He's not gone totally native and will be supporting England, although fears the worse !
Claret, In peace as ever ...

1) Arsenal. The Suffragettes also attacked Deepdale and Ewood Park as " bastions of male dominance " but were less successful. Arsenal moved the 13 miles from south of the river in leafy Plumstead, Kent to Highbury, North London. Without the Suffragettes, Spurs may have had " Norf London " all to themselves !!
2) Mansfield - Hurst Park racecourse held it's last meeting in 1962. It was in West Molesley, Surrey, less than 15 miles from Ascot. When it closed, Ascot actually bought 200 acres of turf from them to lay on their new National Hunt course .
3) Blackburn - The body found in a shallow grave at 84 Nuttall Street, was identified as Julian Brookfield who'd gone missing in August 1984. Brian Blakemore, of Accrington, was eventually convicted and sentenced to a total of 17 years.
4) Hartlepool - Their letter requesting £3,250 compensation was eventually replied to rather forcefully when the Heinkel He-111's appeared over Victoria Park in 1940
5) Notts County - The " temporary " structure was purchased from Forest when Meadow Lane was laid out in 1910.
6) Vale Park - The original 1945 plans were for an 80,000 capacity and parking for 1,000 cars. The Board could not be accused of lacking ambition, but post-war austerity, no money, lack of building materials and the fact they were in the 3rd Division ( N ) rather scuppered things.
7) Hampden - The record is 149,415 for the Scotland v England game in 1937.
😎 Queen of the South - Sounds a lovely part of the world !
9) Shrewsbury - One of the coracles used by Fred Davis is now on display at the new Shrewsbury ground.
10 ) QPR - My Dad attended the White City game between France and Uruguay in 1966. The BBC built a number of building on the White City site in the 1980's ..
11) Arbroath - Notable mentions for East Fife's ground, and Blundell Park, home of Grimsby Town, where you'll also feel a sea breeze or two ..
