He must have one hell of an agent and PR team.

The stupidity of club owners never ceases .

    Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Shit sticks and in Rovers case it was for 5 years.

If any Sunderland fans are reading this - not everyone is so full of bile about the man that took a sinking ship and brought some pride and stability back to the club, bringing good young players through and making some great signings along the way. The views on this forum are a bit of an outlier and I think some people really wound themselves up in circles and started to bizarrely really hate the man.

    He doesn't deserve that.

Tactically it didn't always work, but I reckon he'll be a good appointment for their circumstances and it would be just typical of the old bugger to take them up at the first attempt 🤣

It's the usual spiel from every manager, but this idea of a slow build is extremely flawed both because of the high player turnover at the majority of Championship clubs fuelled by loan signings, and the fact that Venkys do not in any way act like owners willing to allow a build, with inconsistent reinvestment amounts and interference.

We may well not finish in the top 6, but we certainly shouldn't be almost writing off a whole season in a bang average league in favour of focusing on player development. There has also been plenty of talk of wanting to be in the Premier League, there's no reason to push those ambitions down the line.

Certainly not writing it off, as the eternal optimist I’m slyly thinking we might surprise even ourselves…

But I won’t be worried if we are a bit hit and miss for a while, the squad/contract/internal operations situation has been a bit of a shitstate for JDT & GB to come into.

Before we even start thinking about coaching us and shaping us into a better team.

I want to see positive steps, I think JDT has that” je ne sais quoi” already, our youth are as good as any journeymen and who knows how the new signings will pan out…

Expectations low this season, hope I’m proved wrong.

One big problem with comparisons to last year is that we are supposed to be trying to improve, not match the 8th place finish, and we were short of depth last season.

I must have missed the memo but I’m sure a few weeks ago JDT and GB were stressing patience, talking about a transition into a new “project”, and talking about 2 or 3 transfer windows…

Honestly I was expecting a mid table finish and a lot of young players coming through and improving 🤷‍♂️

Everyone seemed on board before we lost a couple of games.

I completely agree Glen but the thing with the three that left is spilt milk. It is what it is now.

I just can't see the economic sense in refusing to give someone what they want in terms of wages then paying a fee/agent's fees and similar wages to another player who at best is no better.

I saw this earlier on in the thread.

You don’t see an issue with offering Rothwell & Lenihan over 30k a week (probably more in JR’s case)?

Double what players like Dack are earning?

They aren’t worth that, for one.

    True.  Cheaper the better👍

Can't tell if you're being facetious or not, but tbh I haven't been overly enamoured with the idea of loaning in a young centre back and being obliged to play him when we've got 3/4 of our own coming through. Everyone can see we're crying out for some experience back there, and I wouldn't be surprised if the last couple of games has brought that home to the Rovers hierarchy. Perhaps dropped our interest in JPVH and gone for 26 year old Hyam for similar reasons too.

If we can get a couple of years at least out of him, he's happy to play backup, and it saves us money then yeah, it might be better than another Liverpool loan.

He hasn't been in England for 5 years. During that time he's floated around a rather poor Turkish league.

He's a body through the door, in a position we are short in.  He may turn out to be ok, he may be useless. Let's not kid ourselves that we've played a blinder to get him though.

It only makes sense if goes somewhere else in the team.

Will probably cost less than loaning the kid from Liverpool, who we didn't want to promise starts to.

So 8,000 average higher gate than us. Average ticket price if we are being generous of £20.

    8,000 x 20 = £160,000

    x 23 = £3.6 million

Rough and ready figures but shows crowds don't deliver that much of , even though it is convenient for those at  Rovers to claim it does.

Before we start comparing bills, and I will suggest that Middlesbrough's is at least £3.6 a year more than ours is, that is quite insignificant when selling players for £30 million and letting £10 million of players walk away for nothing.

Boro taking financial risks imo. Betting it all on an overrated PASHUN merchant of a manager who once spent 25m on Rhian Brewster.

Overseas is BBD’s best footballing move. His progress through exposure to the Chilean National setup could be replicated in a different footballing culture.

Club now need to ensure Wasserman don’t play silly buggers over who they want to speak to/close a deal with. It should be the highest bidder and we should be looking to encourage to win and have the clearance to complete a deal.

From my very limited dealings with them (not in sports, admittedly) “Team Wass” are incredibly well-connected, knowledgable and competent from a perspective but - generally speaking - a bit of to deal with if you’re on the other side of the table. Hopefully Waggott and Suhail are up to . (🫤)

I'd also feel quite comfortable keeping him in my head as a cult hero too. Wouldn't mind a Celta Vigo BBD22 shirt.

Watched the replay and zi can not remember.the last time zi could use entertaining and exciting in the same sentence as Rovers.

I thiught Markanday looked good, a couple of his 360's with were very Meccyesque.  Good footwork, looks promising to me.  enjoyed the .  Throws down a good marker to the regulars, buck up ir a replacement is ready to take your spot.

Felt a bit sad but watched the replay too. Praise for Wharton & Garrett can't be understated - they took the piss out of a couple of "men", tough & experienced centre midfielders. No reason they can't contribute in the Championship if they can win physical battles like that.

Also, thought Edun played very well, at odds to some of the things I've read. Needs more starts.

Why are people assuming it has to be a short term panic buy. We've known we have no Van Hecke since the last kick of last season and we've known Lenihan was off for over . CB was , 100%, unequivocally, a huge hole that we needed to fill in the off-season. We've had 2 months to draw up a shortlist, find a player, negotiate fees, negotiate contracts etc...It should not be a 'short term panic buy' just because we've had additional youth team / reserve team injuries in the last to escalate what was a glaring off-season issue.

But if our first choices aren't available yet, then going down the list to the less preferred choices just so we can have the bench filled for two or three more games extra doesn't sound like something JDT would want to do.

It's a long, long season and our first 3 results have bought us some time to hopefully be right in the mix when the window ends - ideally with some of our a-list targets in the door. There's a lot of moving cogs with transfers, there's a game of "chicken" to be played and you have to wait for the dominos to fall in order.

Harsh on Paul Downing though everyone, he'd be useful right now!

Hot on the heels of the pitch shambles at Coventry, I was reading that there's an egg chasing game on at Wigan the night before they entertain Burnley.

Surely the pitch is gonna end up a bit battered?

Will suit Wigan hopefully, Kompany’s tikitaka could fall apart.

That win they huffed and puffed to against Huddersfield doesn’t look too impressive now either…

Very strange recruitment, they have gone for quite a lot of well known and British players, Tarkowski is a really good signing, not sure on Coady, McNeil was horrendous at Prem level last season and (obviously not British) but Gana Gueye was brilliant there first time but it was a long time ago.

Amidst all that, they are close to signing Onana who is apparently a really good, young midfielder for big money.

They still are horribly short in attack and the signing of Dele Alli is up there with the strangest you could find, no doubt a big earner, a player who could incur many more costs if he plays more games and just in general an unnecessary sideshow.

Lampard has as much football knowledge outside of the top half PL as the average MOTD presenter.

He’s signed them because he’s heard of them.
