they were scouted and watched by mowbrays team, broughton inherited the list, there is no way he`d have signed both of them of his own bat
Mowbray probably thinks Messi is a good player. Still have to go and sign him 😂
Broughton isn’t a scout or an analyst, he’s a Director of Football. He brought Szmodics to the club, the end.

Yeah Szmodic doesn't count as one of Broughton's signings cus Steve Waggott said so psml
Do people think he’s an analyst? Not a DoF?
So he’s come into the job and says, “who’ve you been looking at?”, decides to make a move for someone he thinks will fit, does the negotiations, contracts, deals with the agents etc and gets them to sign, then after a successful period ties them down to a longer contract…
NOT A GB SIGNING HE’S SHIT

Until one of our GB signings at least gets near to 1st team action, never mind successfully or not, the jury will be out on whether he is the right person to do positive things with a criminally limited budget. Only someone with great talent would succeed in these circumstances. In the same way that certain managers succeed on shoestring budgets.
Let’s just pretend the excellent free transfer of Sondre Tronstad doesn’t exist (I know there’s apparently caveats with the others like Brittain, Hyam, Szmodics, Hill, to an extent Sigurdsson etc).

And 12x it if you wait another 6 months.
How often do “big 6” clubs buy players from the Championship for £25m+? Have they ever? Do they play them? What happens to their careers?
It’s a logical destination for Wharton, look at what they’ve done for Eze, Olise, Guehi etc. And the fee is very hard to turn down. Surely one of the biggest ever sales from a Championship (not relegated) club?
What’s not logical or palatable is what I expect to happen next with the funds - I.e. fuck all constructive.

Always go into this one with trepidation as it's been my personal "derby" for a good few years now.
We're incredibly stretched, Wednesday fans feel they're finally on the up and playing well, they got a great result against Leicester last night, have a lot of experience, and our youngsters will have to deal with the cauldron of a potentially bouncing Hillsborough...
6-0 Rovers Szmodics double hat-trick.

Hell of a battling performance that. Fingernails gone but what a shift.

Been a long time since there was a post in here (apologies mods if there is a more recent thread).
Plenty of new players (and a manager) since 2018 to get some more imaginative chants going. Quite like the Gallagher one…two of our current star men below definitely deserve their own song!
Edit: She’s Electric and Supersonic for the two below
Love owt like this me, and I absolutely love these. Could see them taking off.
Indulge me a couple of “scanability/footballification” suggestions from a (very, very) amateur lyricist?
His name is hard to spellll,
We don’t want no one elseeee,
I’m feeling Supersonic,
Give me Sammie Szmodics,
Give that man the ball and
He’ll score another rocket
&
He’s Icelandic,
He plays in the old blue and white kit,
Makes everyone else look like they’re shit,
It’s Siiiiiiigurdssooooon
Feel a dick trying to improve on a bit of brilliance but I’ve had a few and they’ve got potential!
Look forward to hearing them when I’m next in an away end!

Tbh, before the penalty I felt like the only thing between the two teams was a moment of individual quality, which they oozed all over the pitch. After that it’s the standard Blackburn Rovers collapse.
Coming up against the best squad in the league and gifting them goals is never going to be a recipe for success.
This game won’t tell us much about our season, but I would think we have to be targeting 4 points from the next two before the real concerns start niggling in the back of the mind.
Thought Markanday did ok overall, Brittain rightly keeps JRC out of the team, and Moran is a lovely footballer. Wharton was looking a bit more like his old self in that second half before a silly mistake put us under pressure.
Need to move on quickly.

Playing him left wing won’t help.
Wednesday genuinely look one of the worst sides I’ve ever seen at this level right now, and the manager is totally clueless.

Disagree.
There's an entitled mentality creeping (or even sprinting) into football fan mentality when it comes to what they can demand from owners.
At the absolute worst end of the scale you see things like Ajax last weekend and just the general behaviour of Manchester United fans over the last decade - but it is permeating most clubs.
Many of our complaints about Venkys are fully justified, but even here we see fans expressing some expectation that an owner should be writing blank cheques to fund their own footballing wet dream.
The "It's their money they can do what they want" attitude doesn't sit well with me.
Owners are just custodians of a greater social/community asset and it is negligence and bad decision making that puts them in precarious positions in the first place.
I don't think we should give owners any pats on the back for keeping cashflow going when, in the case of Chansiri, he's flogged their stadium, put them in transfer embargos, had points deductions, and generally ruled the roost on the cheap to the extent that no decent football manager would want to work for him and the signings he makes. All while charging them £50 a ticket and pricing many fans out. Complain, and he threatens to stop keeping the lights on.
I think if you asked many Wednesday fans, they'd take admin/Lg2/whatever to get rid of the narcissistic embarrassment of an owner. There is huge potential there with that fanbase to aim towards some kind of relative sustainability.
How is that entitled?
If you don't want to have to cover some losses, don't buy (or create in our case) a Championship football club. Sort out the business model, respect the supporters, or hand the keys over to someone that will. At the very least expect some criticism when you fuck it up.

I cant blame the guy for doing this, we are all quick to spend other peoples money and moan about then not putting in millions more to sign players etc.
I cant see a similar situation from Venkys though, purely because they simply dont communicate to fans/media so we wouldnt know either way!
I personally think it's a disgrace.
"Protest and I'll let your club die" is the threat.
Appalling.

In the last 20 years I can remember a game being rained off once (a Boxing Day game I think?).
How bad is it up there??!!
Didn't think our pitch was that bad for drainage?

if we aproach the better teams in the division this way it won`t be a pretty watch😥though we look magic going forwards, great to see adam wharton looking more himself,he needs to sort out his off the ball work though
Think we saw how we’ll deal with those kind of teams (especially away) in the Watford game.
Sit back, stay solid, smash and grab.
Counter attacking suits some of our forwards.

Lucky in the sense that Dolan missed two open goals, Gallagher missed a regulation chance and we should have had a penalty? Not to mention their GK making three excellent saves.
And their goal doesn’t count in 99% of professional games

Game of opinions isn’t it? Makes it interesting. I’d say your opinion is the one bordering on nonsense.
He looked immobile, lacking fitness, poor touch and tried to hide away from the ball. That isn’t negated by the one decent pass he played go Szmodics.
The speed of the game at that time would be hard for any debutant.
Yes, he looked a little off the pace, but no more than Moran and certainly not enough to make any worrying definitive judgements.

I feel JDT played him to prove a point. “Look at one they’ve given me, now don’t complain online when I don’t pick him for rest of the season”
Nonsense. Slipped Szmodics through really nicely for a one v one and was in a good position for a chance on the break, although sliced.
We were proper under the cosh at the time and he did ok leading the line.

Just a thought, would anyone swap a poor Lenihan for a very steady Hyam
Wouldn’t swap him for Carter or Hyam.
Both proper top quality defenders at this level with a touch of class.

If we could finish and the officials were up to standard I’d have those 5 years that came off my life in the last 20 mins back.
Some of those misses (namely Dolan’s) were easier to score.
Law of averages say they’ll start going in imo.
Every game is a fight, and Jon’s Baby Army saw it out. Onwards and upwards.

Think Carter and Hyam have been immense.
Wouldn’t swap either of them for Lenihan on his best day.

They might if it's highly rated coach and ex-player Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Always a buyer once their is a willing seller.
I'd not worry if these buggered off
Of course, we all know that every potential suitor to own a football club has loads of money, no ego, and knows exactly what they are doing.
Always worry! Things can always get worse with precarious businesses like these and the people they attract.
But yeah, from today’s news I’d expect further stagnation and slow decline under Venkys, barring a miracle on the pitch.
Joy.

Maybe, but I think we're just trying to be a bit too cute. I think we scored the least amount of goals from corners last season in the league, but the short corner routine looks even less effective.
Scored from one today didn’t we?

The relentless short passing from set pieces in our own half has caused so many issues and perseverance with it fills me with dread.
It doesn’t need to be the exact opposite either, a style that relies solely on physical stats and set pieces. I’m sure even some minor aspects of “Pulis” in our approach would help, like a good old fashioned “when in doubt rule”..
I appreciate the business aspect involved in sustainability, where the “value added” stuff belongs - and the only way to evaluate that is long term, hence why I’m no in anyway trying to advocate any changes of personnel. I don’t do that anyway.
I just can sense this is going to be a long fucking season. Please prove me wrong.
I think that in particular is what we got better at judging as the season went on.
I suspect less Morton/Travis and more of Wharton/Buckley/Tronstad (hopefully) will cut out the hesitation and pondering, getting us on the front foot quicker.
It’ll fly by. Gonna piss it.

They might have been identified… and Mowbray might’ve told Sammie he’d have to learn how we play off Joe Nuttall. Or not moved for him because of the Tatts.
Happy to criticise GB’s bad signings without discounting the good.
