Quite a strange thing for a manager to be in charge of though, don't you think? I mean, if it was coming from the top of the club then OK, great, but this seems to be entirely pushed by TM... an employee whose job is by nature relatively short-term. He may legitimately have left the club before the European Scouting Global Network Initiative gets off the ground - then what? New manager comes in to take advantage, or just dismantles the whole thing and goes in a different direction?

Almost as if the club is lacking any real organisational effort from the top.  Hmmmm what could be the reason for that? cluck cluck .....

It will be Evans, they like signing Northern Irish players, and a lot of Northern irish players like/support Rangers, so if offered the chance he would probably go, he would probably do okay in the SPL, him and Davis, two northern irish lads in the middle for them.

Hopefully. And the bigger thing for us is freeing up the wage bill. Now if we can sell Smallwood we have a lot of options for using that wage space

Doubt that very much as it means you don't get the best outta Dack

This is why this transfer just seems ridiculous on paper

We will have 12 million spent on two centre forwards when we seemingly only play with one and love to pack the midfield.

Everyone one on here and I am sure the club too can see that we are desperate for players at the other end and instead we sign the fifth striker for only one open position??

Honestly, does this transfer mean Dack is on the way out?

Who needs defenders and a goalkeeper when we've got 47 midfielders:

    BUTTERFIELD TRAINS WITH BLACKBURN

Jacob Butterfield is training with Blackburn with a view to making a permanent move to Ewood Park from Derby, Sky Sports Newsunderstands.

The former Middlesbrough midfielder is known to Tony Mowbray from his time on Teeside and the Rovers boss may add Butterfield, who cost Derby County £5m, to his squad following last week’s acquisition of midfielder Bradley Johnson.

So if he signs we will have on the books Smallwood, Evans, Travis, Davenport, Butterfield, Johnson and Buckley to play CM

Just four short of a full XI of central midfielders

He got budget from start of summer but with downing, Johnson and incoming outlay of Gallagher fee and wages it’s pretty much not leaving much for a gk and a defenders wages so he is having to get green light that he will be allowed to make these moves. Believe the keeper and defender he wants are both of a decent standard- don’t know names- but it’s the wages that are causing issues and headaches. He is trying to get Gallagher for pretty much the exact raya money.

adam won’t be signed unless one or two moved on to free up wages. Suits both parties at the moment to have him, gets his fitness up and allows us to have a ready made backup in should we manage to offload a few. Not too dissimilar to rodwell deal last year

How much are we paying Downing and Johnson if they are eating up some of the budget??? I am appreciate the Gallagher fee will be high but the other two???

Feels to me like the budget is much lower this year compared to last summer.

I think a deal for Gallagher would eat up virtually all the cash.

    So the choices are

    1) Gallagher + cheap goalie + loan defender(s)

    2) Decent goalie + money spent on defender(s) ( No Gallagher )

    3) Sell someone (Travis ?) allowing us to afford Gallagher + decent goalie and maybe a defender.

Loan market not really active yet so it may all happen approaching deadline day.

Just me thinking aloud. I'd go for option 2.

From those options, 2 by far

Something along the lines of Reed not being ready to play central midfield in the championship (he's 24!) & how he needs to learn off Smallwood and Evan's how to play the position because they play it better.

If he said that fucking hell his whole "work into the team" needs to fucking stop

The rise of the smaller southern clubs and their increasing wealth reflects the UK economy and the way it has been run in favour of the south over the past 30-40 years.

To older fans such as myself, the likes of Watford, Bournemouth, Palace, Brighton etc in the top flight while clubs such as Sunderland, Leeds, Sheff Wed, Forest etc languish would have been inconceivable many years ago.

A lot of truth in that. The rift between the north and south continues and that rift is often naturally found in football
