You're the one who's been trolling all summer by labelling anyone who has dared to criticise the transfer activity as a "doom monger".

If you had taken out your blue and white ear muffs for a second you'd also have noticed that TM said 4 maybe 5 "by the end" which suggests to me the vast majority if not all of the remaining business will be done on Loan as opposed to permanently before the deadline.

“By the end” implies 1 or 2 during the loan only window. So 3 additions next week, probably 2 seven figure permanent additions!

For me we need a substantial injection of real quality in the striking and in the wide positions who would come in and improve the first eleven now not just bodies to provide a bit of competition for places to the existing personnel.

However that would cost decent money and it seems fairly obvious we aren't prepared to pay it.

How much would shell out then? 5, 10, 20 million? I saw earlier that only 2 players got 20+ in this league last year. Do you propose we go for Vydra? Or do you think we should gamble on a lower league prospect? What would please you in terms of names brought in?

That doesn't sound good at all. Merely sounds like he's hoping to  bringin a few more like Rothwell and Davenport to pad out the squad a bit  rather than outstanding signings who will go  straight into the first team.

As has been the case all window it smacks of there being no money available or at least inadequate funding to compete in the current Championship market.

Please take a quote from what he said that fits your narrative?

  4. Exactly. What I think has been the message and the actual truth is that we could indeed afford to buy Armstrong and pay his wages, however TM doesn’t think he is worth that. He thinks he can get a higher calibre of player for that sort of money. We’ll have to see what happens in the next 8 days!

He's changed his tune completely then. A week or two again he was writing online that we'd enquired about Armstrong at some point but the player would have to lower his expectations re wages before the deal would be a goer.

If we had that sort of money to spend I'd have expected our targets to be here several weeks ago. It's the easiest thing in the world to claim you had money to spend then say you kept your powder dry because the right players never became available. It was John Williams favourite trick to deflect attention away from the Walker Trust.

Let’s wait until the transfer window shuts before arguing about how much we have to spend. None of us have any idea, but Sharpe probably has some indication.

  6. It’s probably going to be next Monday at the earliest before we see any (hopefully major) incomings. Today is a players day off, tomorrow is prep for Ipswich, Friday is travelling down, Saturday the game, Sunday another day off for recovery. So unless we see any action tonight or tomorrow we should all be expecting Monday at the earliest imo.

A lot of people are pressing the argument of "un-proven at this level" for some potential signings. I look at it as"never failed at this level".

Yes. We’d much rather have a league one gem that can improve and grow into the league than a proven Championship dud.

I think we will sign an out and out striker, an attacker / winger and a CB before the deadline with a possibility of one or two loans before the end of August.

If the quality of player is decent then I think everybody on this MB would be delighted with that.

Agreed. I'd be happy to have Armstrong and Chapman here as I think the pair of them would bolster the squad nicely, but I'm not sure there needs to be any suggestion we're aiming higher. Obviously if we are then that's great, but there's just no need to say it publicly. We just need to do as we usually do under Mowbray and get our business done under the radar. Should we make a couple of even better signings then that's fantastic, if we do end up with Armstrong and Chapman then most of us would be perfectly happy with that. The only frustration would be if we ended up with nobody, or more loaned youngsters as in the 16/17 season who either aren't able or aren't willing to contribute enough.

As it stands I trust Mowbray to ultimately get it right. I'll be anxious until the end of the window, though, as the owners have screwed us and other managers over so many times in the recent past.

There is no evidence that we are going to end up with nobody or loan 4 more players into the club. Mowbray said "we know we can get our D targets" in a permanent signing context so while we'd all like to get the best players possible, the chances of signing nobody are remotely slim and not worth the discussion really.

Strange and poor interview from Mowbray in my opinion, don’t understand what he has to gain from it. It seems like he has trouble to not try to explain himself when he’s getting a bit of stick, he’s too honest.

The only thing he could gain from saying something like this is to reduce the price of Armstrong/Chapman but then I’m not sure how they’d take being the D choice (unless he’s telling the two of them something different in private).

I’d rather he just keep his mouth shut if I’m honest, the top managers don’t tell the press what their A, B, C, and D choices are.

The man can’t win can he. Some fans are on twitter begging Rich Sharpe to see if Mowbray has said anything about signings. Other fans would rather him keep his mouth shut. And contrary to what you say, Mowbray does not mention the names of any players at all in his quotes either today or in previous interviews.

Interesting comments from TM, clearly he’s targeting some more proven players at this level, which can’t be a bad thing. I still think Armstrong may end up here but I’m not sure he feels he can rely on chapman with his injury record.

Presumably he has some ambitious targets in mind.

He must do if Armstrong and Chapman are D listers!
