Myself also, maybe the fella thinks I'm a young un.  I just don't think we should look down on anyone.  On the day anything can happen, the FA Cup is testament to that.   Many many fruit less visits to Kenilworth Road says the same thing.  Same Luton the beat us at Ewood.

I'll retract the word 'tinpot', if you like. But please don't try to argue that Luton Town possess one eighth of a scintilla of the pedigree of Blackburn Rovers.

A Tuesday night in February, away to Cambridge and a decent following, hero’s everyone that travelled. I salute you, 28yrs after the fact, but better late than never.

I was there, it was rotten. Only travelling from London, though. I think one of the very few failings King Kenny had as a manager was an understandable lack of ability in countering anti-football sides like Cambridge. From memory, he just packed the team with as many 6 footers as he could find.

One for the kit geeks amongst us.

Looking forward to seeing us return to blue shorts, when away and facing teams with white shorts, as seen in the recent youth match against Manchester United.

Also likely to wear the blue shorts away at Stoke on 19th December.

If memory serves correct, the first time we will have worn blue shorts since Charlton away in the 2017/18 season. Where you may remember we wore navy shorts on several occassions

But this will be the first time we've worn a matching shade of blue shorts since Rotherham away on 30th April 2016.

My apologies for the picture of Shane Duffy!

    Top class kit geekery, mate!

Can’t remember it Elvis but I’ve just googled it and yes, a newsagents at Sudell Cross.

Next to Seed and Garbutts booksellers? As a schoolboy saw Mike Harrison getting into his brand new VW Beetle there circa 1967. I thought he was coming out of the bookshop but he was probably going to see Keith.

No, I think Seed and Gabbuts was across the road on the bottom of Preston New Road. There was a toffee shop next to it though, which used to get terrorised by us QEGS kids on our way home.

Yes, quite measured in their analysis. Tactically there may be a few flaws in their plan, such as snapping opposition legs (tends to lead to those sendings off they draw attention to) although I did like the idea of them knocking 4000 holes in our defence :)

A damp cold evening on Ewood Park. Got to be up for this, as a game that has 'barometer for season's intent' written all over it.

'Barometer for season's intent' is probably my favourite sentence ever on this board. Or anywhere else, for that matter.

Thanks for that renrag! I grew up in that area of Darwen and, whilst I was only a kid in the early 60s, I hadn’t realised they had run the newsagents for that length of time. My parents had been friends of Ronnie and Val since the mid 60s.

Didn't Keith Newton have a newsagents on Sudell Cross at one time? I'm sure he had 'Keith Newton- Blackburn Rovers - Burnley  -England' on the shopfront.

they were an absolute nightmare to play against,it was literally a fast ,ariel bombardment for the whole 90 minutes

Didn't they have that plank John Rudge as manager? He was an absolute disciple of the the route 1 'style' of play, coupled with as much shithousery as they could get away with. Awful manager, awful team. God knows how they ended up in the play-offs with us.

Please please don’t mess this up from here. I happen to live next door to Preston’s assistant manager, I teach numerous PNE fans and my place of work is opposite the home of Deepdale Duck. I have to drive past Deepdale every day to pick my toddler up from nursery. I can’t escape them. I’m surrounded. Please please don’t mess this up from here.

I think you can have a lovely day tomorrow. Enjoy!

    You must be joking.

Remember some huge punch ups - Hull in the Darwen End and Leicester in the Blackburn End come readily to mind.

First time I ever encountered skinheads was when Leicester played at Ewood about 1968. I also have a vague recollection of standing on the BE around that time when we played Sheff Wed. This was in the days of 'mingling' on the terraces. Their 'lads' were all fashionably attired in Crombies and carrying neatly furled black umbrellas. We all thought they were a bit of a laugh until, at some given signal presumably, they started lamping everyone in sight with their brollies and it all kicked off.

Last fall when the wife & I visited the Madejski (sp?) to see Rovers play, the bus dropped us off in basically an industrial park- Costco, etc. there was one little strip of green we walked to the stadium. Looked too much like many of our American grounds.

Many years ago a friend dragged me along to watch his lads Fulham playing at Wycombe Wanderers. Adams Park is literally in the middle of an industrial estate. Hideous.

  11. My musical hero has always been my namesake, Elvis Costello. Saw him at the City Hall here in Sheffield just before the first lockdown and he had the place rocking. I reckon it was one of the best shows I've ever seen him put on  - and I've been watching him live since I used to see him at the old Hammersmith Palais (RIP) back in the early 1980's.

New album out later this month

I think leadership standards are in flux in football.

Kane's motivational speeches on that Spurs documentary were ace.

"Alright boys. Lets win this game and get the three points." [team cheers, roars, applauds]

I believe Bobby Moore's captain's talk in the dressing room prior to the 1966 World Cup Final consisted simply of   "Let's go..."
