Yes, think both of them were part of the 4 players on exemption work permits with the new EFL rules. Leaves only Sigurdsson at the club and 3 places available under these rules. Tronstadt qualified for a work permit because of the number of games he’s played in the Eredivisie. If they don’t want to spend, abroad makes more sense than your 32/33 year old players with Championship and Premiership experience, even if those from abroad would command a small fee.

I agree in normal club circumstances. Unfortunately we aren’t a normal club and we don’t want to be agreeing to take on 3/4 players on 15/20 k per week for a couple of years with nothing to show for it on the other side. Batth, Ruddy, McFadzean, Fleck and Krul will all fall into this category and although the manager will want them and probably make sense on the football side, they don’t make sense financially. Hence the push back every time we try to recruit an experienced player.

John Park will bring his own people into his department, so I wouldn’t read too much into the Head of Emerging Talent leaving. What “emerging talents” have we recruited over the past few years to justify his role? The only decent players we have signed in recent years were established pro’s in the championship and one from the Eredivisie. Money is clearly a massive issue despite Waggot’s cock and bull stories. A change of tact is required. Get the likes of Tim Krul, Liam Cooper, John Fleck (if fit) to be the spine of the team then perhaps loanees to play in the wide areas. A centre forward gamble from Europe and another if we get a decent offer for Gallagher. I can’t see any significant cash buys, except maybe those similar to Wahlstedt and Telalovic towards the end of the window.

The club have never allowed anyone else from the club to attend the senior training centre or mix with first team players, usually a managers decision, based probably around confidentiality of transfers and other first team business, been the case since the place was built! Although the lack of drink and toilet facilities is pretty inexcusable especially with the size of the academy and senior training centre. Can’t imagine any employee from ewood/ academy or the women’s team can just rock up and start using first team facilities unless it’s pre arranged and agreed with management. That has nothing to do with the lack of funding the women’s team receives

Our money back on Wahlstedt is a decent deal to be fair. I have a funny feeling he will kick on at some point and become a good goalkeeper. He wasn’t for us right now though, you can’t be having a goalkeeper in the championship who can’t catch or deal with crosses. You WILL get found out, and he was.

I think Eustace will look to build a compact team with pace in the wide areas physicality up front. That is how he had success with Birmingham. Unfortunately looks like he will need to do it on a shoe string. I can imagine Travis and Tronstadt both being in. Szmodics, Gallagher and Dolan to be sold and replaced. He cannot be judged on last season. We were wide open as a team when he came in, conceding 2 or 3 goals a game. All my opinions of course!!

Or we offered a contract on the basis he’s a squad player for one or two years and Portsmouth want him playing regularly and agree to sign him for 3 with the possibility of 4 years. Totally agree with the club not doing that. Totally understand why he would choose Portsmouth, nothing to do with us being unable to attract a league 1 player.

Are we really gutted we haven’t sign Murphy (who turns 30 this season). A championship/ league one journeyman who had a decent season in League 1 and will be looking for one big last pay day. Done well to avoid.

£8 million is a clear ploy by Broughton to protect his value. No doubt Szmodics people will have made representations that he wouldn’t sign without it given his age and his desire to play premier league football. I don’t there’s any surprise and some credit is owed after the disasters of BBD, Lenihan, Nyambe and Rothwell running their contracts down. It was probably agreed at the time of signing the contract that he would be gone this summer. Fair play to him, he’s clearly worked hard and earnt it.

Herbie Kane would probably be the best we could hope for, he’s a capable player who looks on the up after a couple of poor years, suspect Barnsley will be miffed as they paid a million plus for him a couple of years ago and are loosing him for nothing
