  1. Before becoming a fixture in the gossip pages for banging Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston and any other blonge with a pulse, John Mayer was best known as one of America's best young song-writers. His latest live album Where The Light Is is absolutely fantastic and worthy of a purchase. One cover of Tom Petty's Free Fallin' is worth the money album alone.

  2. So the Spirit is as overhyped as the frankly rubbish Sin City?

Sin City is good. This wasn't.

I watched `The Pursuit of Happiness` starring Will Smith last night. What a really good film! Great acting off Will and whilst normally I don`t get emotional with regards to films,in this instance i couldn`t help myself.Partly because there were some parallels to my own personal life, but mainly because you really get a sense of the desperation of Smiths character in his struggle to give his son a decent standard of living.

Make that any standard of living. Great movie.

  3. Added bonus is Marisa Tomei topless.

I was going to see The Wrestler anyway, but at least now I know it'll be worth it. :tu:

I've seen three films this week:

Changeling: Excellent film, eerie atmosphere, very intense, fantastic performance all round. Clint hits the jackpot again.

Australia: Very OTT yet great fun. It drags on for a bit but overall it's a great spectacle.

The Spirit: A whole lot of meh. Aside from Scarlett Johansson's lovely cleavage and Eva Mendes's rear, this has nothing to offer. Samuel L. Jackson hams it up admirably but he clearly knows the whole thing's a bit of a joke.

  4. So I got Fallout 3 in HMV's sale yesterday. I played it yesterday evening for 30 minutes and HATED it. I understand that it's an RPG so I wasn't surprised to see all the things one would associate with that genre, but what appalled me most was the animation. The character interaction and movement (especially in the third person - a style of play that I favour over the raft of lazy FPS title out there) was like something from an early PS2 title. Characters moon-walking on the spot is one example and an early scuffle with some bullies was laughable in its design and execution. I'm sorry but I can't see what the fuss was about. I managed to get my money back at HMV this morning. I know I played very little of it, but there is a feeling that every gamer gets when you know that something's not quite right with your new purchase. I've got the same feeling about Far Cry 2 which is far too vast, mediocre and boring between the confusingly assembled 'main' stories. I plan to trade it in on Monday. Perhaps for COD5.

  5. I'm amazed to see Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah is the Christmas number two...obviously not happy that the X-Factor's version has beaten it to number one, but still...it's rare for such a great song to get anywhere near the charts, especially at Christmas when it's generally filled with novelty crap.

It inspired me to listen to the album 'Grace' again, I haven't heard it for years and kind of forgot how good it was...especially this song.

Grace is so good that I don't want to ruin it by listening to it too often. Every so often I'll put it on the iTunes and be reminded of how big a talent we lost when Buckley went.

Anyway, I bought Black Stone Cherry's Folklore and Superstition in the sales today. It's very RAWK but very good. I also got Talib Kweli's Quality for Christmas. I'd recommend it to any fans of proper east coast hip-hop.

This is pretty much how I remember Shane McGowan when the Pogues appeared in Birmingham and Blackburn (twice) in the mid 80's. Perhaps thats why Andrew 'The Clobberer' Ranken used to play the drums standing up!

I find McGowan quite embarrassing to be honest. Fortunately he's English so it could be worse.
