  1. The injury to Tarky is a worry. Collins is excellent but still young and inexperienced. Long is fine as stand in alongside Mee or Tarkowski but those 2 together (Collins/Long) just won’t be good enough. It is worrying watching the results come in from other games. Games been answered, next Sunday Spurs so nothing there, then Villa midweek - they weren’t amazing so no reason we couldn’t get something but we’d have to do better. Cornet was coming back so not a massive surprise but we cannot go with Barnes/Weghorst up top - all the mobility of an oil tanker. Assuming Vydra is as injured as the rumour mill suggests then Cornet will need to play off Weghorst. Definitely think it’s us or Leeds. We need at least one win, probably a draw as well. After today Leeds have the same number left as us. Another factor is both Leeds and Everton play midweek so have the chance to put us back in the relegation zone before we play Sunday. Honestly not sure how it’s going to go - can we find more performances like the 4 before yesterday or will we play like that in the last 3, because if we do we won’t pick anything else up.
  2. Not really. We were ok first half but they were clinical. Woeful second half from us, got about what we earned today. Will need to be better in the last 3 games.
  3. It is old news but there is more detail now. Well we do have 50 million in cash as well, plus over 100 million in player value, plus around 100 million in parachutes to come. The 10 million sounds like what Pace et al are taking out to me.
  4. Let me rephrase, I’m excited and positively nervous rather than worryingly. He has done well, as have those assisting him. The Chairman will clearly have a view as would any incoming manager. Possible but very very unlikely. I feel it has to be us, Leeds or Everton. I have no idea what our squad will look like if we come down, who we will sell or how much there will be to invest in the squad. I’d imagine we would struggle to make an immediate return.
  5. I personally wouldn’t appoint him. We’ve done well but that is basically working with a team and structure the previous manager built. We all know about the interims given the job full time after a decent start that just don’t work out. Very close indeed, still won’t allow myself to believe we will do it but at least we now do have a shot.
  6. Lol - we were down 2 weeks ago, it’s in our own hands now. Nervous? Not at all, we fight on.
  7. They were winnable, as was Norwich and a few others under Dyche that we lost. I wasn’t happy he was sacked but so far it has paid dividends. We haven’t won 3 on the bounce in 3 years. That said he is still I believe a great manager who, with the right club, could well repeat his Burnley miracle. You could do a lot worse.
  8. Went into a club that had some real quality though - and a bit more cash than us as well. I wouldn’t chose him personally. Had decent spells but with our budget I can’t see it working out. I’ll pass if you don’t mind 😬 I do agree - I just wonder with our budget and resources if he can work within that. They are - although we’ve done ok with mostly non foreign signings this last 10/15 years, Mee was about 1 million, Tarky 1.5, Trippier about 1, Ings was cheap, Pope was almost nowt, etc etc. But I think the Cornet, Weghorst and attempt to get Orsic show they have a further afield view. I know - I get it working at the bigger clubs that are simply brands these days but I don’t see it working at little old Burnley.
  9. Vincent Kompany current joint favourite as our next manager with Rooney, Benitez slightly behind those 2. Not sure how I feel about that, his record at Anderlecht is decent but I’ve no idea how that translates to English Leagues 🤷‍♂️.
  10. We looked leggy yesterday with such a short turnaround. Hopefully we are fully rested for Watford. I am cautious because it truly is the hope that kills. There will be ups and downs over the next 5 games. Let’s see how Leeds do against Palace! I’m not going to do the whole attendance debate but in terms of games against you then both sets of fans turn out. Wouldn’t surprise me but the referees should remember Americans are very litigious 😬
  11. Leeds play Palace tomorrow. Lose that and they have City next! Looks like a 3 way race now.
  12. A great win - but we need another three so we are still favourites for the drop. This mini revival may well only end up making it sweeter for you guys when we still go down.
  13. I can’t see them finding an interim for what will be the last 5 games after today, and if they did what realistically could he do differently? (Big) IF we can get a result today I’d imagine they will just see the season out as we are. I seem to remember Carvalhal did ok with Sheff Wednesday but don’t remember much about this style, set up etc. Bilic I mainly remember from his West Ham spell where I seem to recall he started well. Can’t remember why it all went wrong. I can’t say either would inspire but then again when we appointed Dyche I was underwhelmed so I’m not the best judge. We do seem to be doing the whole ‘let’s get a foreign coach’ in. Not averse to it but it shouldn’t be a requirement.
  14. I had sort of lost sight of that. If we can get results in our next 2 games Villa could be feeling nervous. That said they have an eminently winnable game before us against Norwich which would make them all but safe. Still think it’s us to go down with Watford and Norwich but get a result Sunday and suddenly that most deadly of things, hope, creeps in again.
  15. Yep - and I don’t mind it, it’s clever play so though annoying when it’s done ‘to you’ it works. It’s his hypocrisy that gets me, all that ‘beautiful game bull’. The beauty in this game is winning, however you can. As it goes I’m one of those dinosaurs that finds tiki taka a touch dull at times so what do I know.
  16. It wasn’t one way you know, you do recall Rovers fans praying for our exit from the league - and then lauding Jacks wealth over us as we struggled in the lower divisions? I certainly do, and I remember the naked aggression from both sets of fans back in the day. I’ve seen people on here complain about Burnley Hooligans whilst also claiming Rovers fans regularly battered Burnley all over the place, can’t have it both ways really. The truth is both clubs, neigh most clubs, have/had their collections of knobbers. Equally every Rovers fan I know personally is a decent human who cares about their club as much as I do mine. All that said I absolutely would not expect any sympathy from Rovers fans in general, the rivalry being the way it has been these last 40 odd years. Personally I quite like the needle when we play, adds to the match day - but not the over the top stuff. And once the game is done I’d rather have a bit of banter over a pint and discuss the game.
  17. You would, wouldn’t you 🤷‍♂️
  18. I’m not averse to a foreign manager at all, I just know we won’t go for anyone with quality. We are in a hole, need someone in by Thursday or very soon after if their goal in potting Dyche is survival and this will lead to an appointment as similarly panicked as the sacking.
  19. Of course the most frightening line in that is the one about Bolton, Charlton and (to a lesser extent) Stoke when you consider how they have all faired since their successful managers departed. An interesting piece that sums up how I’ve felt watching us this last decade. I can only hope and pray this isn’t true. That said I did look at what Leeds did after Bielsa and fear the worst.
  20. The positive you have over us is that at least you don’t have to service exceptionally expensive debt from club income.
  21. I heard his old contract was 3.5 million plus 2.5 bonus for staying up. With 3 and half years to run that is potentially 12 1/4 million plus salaries for his team. Allowing that his new deal you imagine was a bit better 15 million seems right. Of course he’ll be out on gardening leave if they have any sense leaving him with the choice of not taking a new job for 3.5 years or agreeing a deal. Still have to think this costs is at least 10 million. They might argue if we stay up it was worth it - though of course we will never know if would have stayed up without the change.
  22. He’s dreadful from what I’ve seen - Tarkowski is head and shoulders above him, and he’s on a free!
  23. Not heard any rumours on long term replacements - not even sure they had a plan for what they have done. Lots of things not quite adding up - such as stories now coming out saying they’ve been thinking about it for a few weeks - but 2 weeks ago the Chairman apparently did an interview due for release this weekend where he was supporting Dyche. My personal view is its a damn mess. Whilst I don’t agree with the decision on Dyche in any way, getting rid of the entire coaching staff is perverse and odd in the extreme. They’ve got rid of a goal keeping coach who has overseen 2 keepers rise to get into the England squad amongst other things for example. In essence they have ripped out the foundations of the club and we have zero continuity. Maybe that’s a good thing 🤷‍♂️. I honestly don’t think the owners get it, they’ve panicked. I understand the financial risk - as should they have done when they bought the club with money they don’t have. I for one cannot come up with a single name more likely to get a club, at least one like ours, promoted from the championship than Dyche. I hope to be proved wrong but can imagine him being appointed somewhere like West Brom next. It will be interesting to see if he can repeat his success. General consensus amongst my friends is the decision is a poor one - and also a classless one. We seemed to finally have built a solid base, something we could rely on - only to wantonly destroy it over one bad season. I genuinely fear for our long term future. I know that sounds like hyperbole but with something like 60-100 million in high interest debt to service if we go down and don’t bounce straight back insolvency won’t be many seasons off.
  24. Spoke to a couple of mates who are there - said it looked bad based on player reactions. Said one of our players vomited when they saw it.
