  1. Great news, has to be a points deduction. Wimbledon AFC got a 18 points deduction for fielding ONE illegible player

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...onf/6339377.stm

    No doubt the hammer will get away scot free, the FA have no balls when it comes to 'Big Clubs' which West ham seem to think they are!.

    The ball-less FA? Hang on, isn't this a Premier League charge? I thought the FA and the Premier League were separate entities, unless someone can tell me otherwise?

    Also, the Ryman League Appeals Committee dealt with the AFC Wimbledon case. It seems that it comes down to whoever is in charge of the leagues to sort this business out. So it's a tad unfair to compare different decisions made by different bodies.

    I hope they're docked into relegation, though. :D As if they need the help...

  2. Having said that, Hughes is his own man and Hughes will do what Hughes wants to do and he will not go anywhere unless the terms and conditions have been gone through with a fine tooth-comb and are to his liking and specification.

    That's the spirit!

    There's a lot of rubbish that flies around trying to bring Rovers down these days, so I just try and avoid it when I can, which is undoubtedly doing wonders for my long-term health!

  3. I found reading the forums and their descriptions quite amusing. I was actually laughing out loud at some of them. It's a Rovers board in joey deacon's vision, containing all of his trademarks.

    Amongst other things, there is:

    - A Manchester United forum, keeping in line with his thinking that United should be our main rival and obssessive hate club;

    - A forum dedicated to the analysis of Rovers fans, most notably dedicated to changing our general mentality;

    - A forum solely dedicated to talk of takeovers of BRFC, keeping in line of his position that the Walker Trust should no longer own the club (or "the Walkers", as he always puts it).

    Brilliant, brilliant stuff.

    The actual content of the board shows a message board descending into chaos, however.

  4. I loved these two quotes!

    * "Compare our attendances this season to Derby, Sunderland or even Norwich, and you have to question whether Birmingham supporters really deserve promotion" - Birmingham co-owner David Sullivan paves the way for the club's lowest attendance of the season in his programme notes for Sunday's game against Stoke.

    * "Stephen Clemence has been carrying an injury. What am I supposed to do? Wave a placard saying Clemence has got a knock? I think I deserve a bit more respect than that after what I've done here in 5½ years. The expectations here are quite unbelievable" - Steve Bruce responds, belatedly, to chants of 'You don't know what you're doing' during the match. What a happy club they sound!

  5. Winter basically says that big clubs influence who does and does not referee them. As a result, refs will favour them in order to protect their career.

    We clearly saw that with Poll at OT last week.

    What a bunch of pushovers the referee appointers are! At least in Italy they accepted bribes (i.e. gifts) before carrying out the wishes of the more influential club officials. :ph34r:

  6. I doubt very much that I'll ever consider a Wii. It feels very gimmicky right now as you said but I can't see anything in the long run that would change that for me. I'm very happy with a regular gamepad and I don't need "new" control schemes to keep me interested. The only thing I would like to try on the Wii is Madden, but that's not going to make me go buy one. I've been very, very happy with my 360 since I got it and there are plenty of games coming up down the line that really excite me. As for the DS, I think its a fun little machine and I loved "New" Super Mario Bros. Haven't really looked into too many games for it though as I prefer to spend my "games money" on 360 stuff. Also, I don't commute as much these days so I don't play it as much.

    Bah. Just saw you bought a DS ages ago, so I edited my post a little above. ;) Would agree that with the Wii the chances of it looking attractive to buy is slim. They have gone down the drain in terms of "realistic" sports games since the 64 from what I know of (I'm surprised to hear their capture of Madden) and for me a move to incorporate more of those sorts of games would be necessary to have a serious think about it. I wouldn't buy otherwise, unless they do a damn good job going in whatever direction they are going in. I wonder if they will ever go with the old sort of simplicity of earlier consoles in a couple of games or more, but obviously a lot more updated.

  7. Blackburn 1-1 MAN UTD-Alan Smith(handball in fergie time)

    Martin O'Neill has acknowledged there is such a thing as "Fergie Time", judging by his latest comments.

    "I don't mind four minutes. I don't mind five, six or seven minutes. In fact there would be very few halves where I wouldn't expect at least three minutes, regardless of whether players have been treated or not. But there's absolutely no consistency, absolutely none at all. If a referee is saying it was to do with the substitutions, fine. But the next week, do it the same way. All I ask for is a bit of consistency and in this occasion he put up four minutes because he was at Old Trafford" - Martin O'Neill.

  8. So I'm thinking about getting a DS but I'm not completely sure. I grew up on Nintendo but haven't touched anything from them since the N64, which was...not very good. From time to time I get this urge to go retro and play some Mario stuff though and I could do with something to entertain me while commuting. But what are the games like these days? Good selection? Top games?

    DS owners, sell me on this!

    I know I'm very late, but if you want [if anyone wants] to get a Nintendo product the time would be now. They are on an uphill roll at the moment and seem to be producing some attractive games again. I've only played about five minutes of a newer Nintendo product (newer than the 64, my last new Nintendo product, so I sort of follow your gaming timeline), but following the discussion and news and everything on it, they are becoming an attractive proposition again.

    I was impressed that Nintendo released a new version of Marios Bros. on the DS, based on the original concept. I hated the move to 3D worlds that have become too fashionable in the last few years, which really turned me off. But they seem to keep some games simpler now, especially on the DS. Mario Kart on the DS (which I played for a few minutes before my three year old cousin took it off me, thinking I didn't know how to play the game properly!) looked fairly cool too, incorporating courses from older versions and looking a clean and simple game from what I saw.

    That's just my impression anyway. I am holding out for a while until I buy a new generation console or handheld, due to a combination of things. Firstly I've bought enough Super Nintendo products to last me years in the last year. Secondly I don't get as much time to play them as I like when university is on, so a new purchase at the moment would be a bit of a waste. Plus I want prices to go down a bit. And I have enough PC games to occupy my time as it is.

    The Wii might be a really good buy down the track, depending on games. It's a bit too gimmicky at the moment, but is going in the right direction. You can download old games on it, but seeing as I have a Super Nintendo with just about all the games I want to have, there's not much point. There are only a select few Nintendo 64 games I want. Goldeneye, WCW/NWO Revenge, Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, and a couple of others I forget.

  9. Quiet down you people. If you're going to start saying something positive about Mokoena, then you've got to offer up another option as a whipping boy for the perpetual moaners. <_<

    As long as Mokoena is committed to the club and Hughes and company support him, he will have my support during the good and bad times. He doesn't get anywhere near enough playing time for an unfamiliar position (career-wise), yet he shuts up and gets on with it and has been improving. As an added bonus he rarely gets injured and has leadership experience. A good squad player at least.

  10. Give him to the end of the year...and what?? By that time we could be looking forward to Championship football. I think he has had enough games and unless he is going to but a bit more effort in I can see him returning to Italy sooner rather than later.

    I still stand by my original stance. Give the lad some time and he will come good. He's in good scoring form at the moment and long may it continue. Championship football indeed.
