  1. I see that Radio 1 are playing "4 Albums that changed music " on Zane Low's show.

One of Led Zeplin's and Nevermind by Nirvana are being played, but with them is the Artic Monkeys and Strokes.

The later two are good albums but we came up with a few others that did make an impact

    Stone Roses

    Revolver

    Sgt Peppers

OK Computer (I disagreed but was overuled)

    Definately Maybe

    Whats the Story

But I was wondering whether it was just the ones that they got the okay to play all the way through live on air

  2. Wellllllllllll, I'm just about to finish one called "a short history of just about everything", by Bill Bryson.

It depends on your taste of course, but the book covers most of the sciences, everything that goes to make the universe and the human being. It's all laid out in a very easy to follow, but very interesting format. Entertaining stuff, amusing too.

Very good, one of those books that you can read over and over againa and enjoy it just as much as the first time

My next book is by Max Hastings, "Nemesis. The battle for Japan 1944-45". It's new out and has just had a short airing in the daily Mail. My dad was a Japanese POW, who worked on the Burma railway - the bridge on the river Kwai. Hence the interest. It tells the story of how the Japanese government missed the opportunity to avoid Hiroschima and Nagasaki, and also tells the story of the suffering of the POW's.

I would read Armagedon as well, about the fall of German and the war in the western and eastern fronts between Overlord and the fall of Berlin. Very good, very well researched, but I couldnt help shake the feeling that Hastings was sat writing the book whilst stroking his Wermacht memorabilia. I'm currently reading Nemesis, its good so far. His books on Overlord, Korea and The Falklands are all worth the time to read them

  3. re Sharpe - they give a good idea of the life of a soldier (Rifleman and redcoats) during the Peninsular and in his later books India and Trafalger. (You need to look at the list in the front of one of his books to work out the chronological order of them)

What they do is describe a vital part of our history, that we know nearly nothing about nowadays, and is really good at getting the description of the battles over to the reader.

They are slightly formulaic but they are rather good fun.

The TV series was a great disapointment compaerd to the books.

  4. Is that the one with the weighted companion cube (wtf was that all about )? I'll not give the game away but you obviosuly have to know your angles (although I guess you already figured that one out <_<)

I've done the weighted cube level, killed all the androids level and I think Im on Level 18 where I 've got into the room with the light ball, the androids on the platforms and the moving platform (killed the androids got the platform moving) but Im damned if I can work out how to get the box to keep the switch open.

I'm tired and my brain hurts

  5. Never been a big Radiohead fan..I liked Pablo Honey....and thats about it.....I dunno something about Well of middleclass kids dressing like they think working class people dress like really annoys me...I.E. the kooks and there ilk.

On a different note.....The Inspiral Carpets are touring soon.

The Bends is a considerably better album than Pablo Honey, ignore the fans and Thom Yorke and enjoy the albulm for what it is, brilliant.

Just listened to In Rainbows, I think its the best since The Bends (which doesnt say much I admit) but I quite like it, will need to listen to it a few times though.

I really enjoyed 15 steps and Jigsaw.

  6. Orange box PC first impressions

In my opnion the orange box represents the best value gaming you can currently buy - 4 tip top games (and one ok game - hl2 ep1) for £40, I even own hl2 and ep1 already for the pc but I still forked out the cash for ep2, portal and TF2 because the other 3 games alone make the purchase worthwhile.

HL2 is one of the best shooters available on any system, and its just gotten a whole lot better with ep2. The story telling and dialogue are second to none and the in game physics puzzles and combat are still streets ahead of most other shooters out today. The pacing of the game is just so well done with giant set piece battles to vehicle sections to exploring an underground antlion cave and mine, you never get bored or have to retrace your steps ever. You sometimes have to go back to a particluar area, but the game nevers sends you back the same route you left it by. And its probably double the length of ep1. Hurrah!

I find HL2 very linear, however its bloody good fu, scary and makes you think with some of those puzzels. Plus if you have a decent enough rig, then its soooooo very pretty

I cant speak highly enough of portal as well. What a puzzle game, the computer ai voice that guides you through is actually very funny and makes you want to beat the puzzles to hear what she's going to say next. also, some of those portal puzzles are quite devious and do your head in at times. nothing like diving into a portal on the floor only tio come out flying of another one on a wall - great fun. Was on it till 2 in the morning last night.

I got stuck last night on level 15 or 16 (cant remember which one) other than it had a "V" of wall which you had to try and get one of those power balles to bounce onto the other switch - which makes sense if you've played the game, none if you havent - it's great fun though

Havn't played TF2 yet as i'm not a massive online gamer, but i'll give it a go over the weekend.

Its hillariously good fun, but ruddy hard/chaotic at times

Can anyone name a better value gaming package right now?

    nope

Cocker - I have been very tempted to pick up he Orange box however, looking at the clips it just dosent feel right to me. The reason I say this is the gun. It looks like its just hovering there instead of being held like in Resistance or Rainbow 6.

    This is:-

    a.) very picky

b.) very very picky as I havent played it yet.

Whats your take on my minor gripe roversyoyo? Is it valid?

Nope, its great. You have no idea how much fun using the gravity gun to bounce soldiers off walls and use them to knock enemies out. Could possibly be.

Well worth the £20 if you get it via steam

    Peggle's pretty damn addictive too

  7. I think you missed my point, but carry on getting your arse in your hands. I never called it wanky pretentious rubbish, I asked whether anyone had heard it? Then made a joke about paying what I think it is worth. For those who are up to date with my dislike of RH since OK was released, then you would know it was tongue in cheek.

    Hence

    the

    ;)

at the end of spoil sports. If you want to see patronising, have a look at this

Fair enough, I know a lot of people don't like the band, but merely hearing music must be dangerous for someone of such low intellect that you barely display a minimal grasp on your first language.

Careful now. Turn the radio on and your head might explode.

and when you're ready to point out my spelling mistakes in any of the last few posts, please feel free.

My issues are usually typing badly, not spelling. But hey lets get back to how great Radiohead are (or not), or how patronising your reply was, which really got on my tits

  8. Well that comment's just reinforced my opinion of most Radiohead fans.

You have no sense of humour, what so ever, pretentious and believe that anyone who might question the great OK Computer or the deity formally known as Thom Yorke knows nothing about music.

You also appear to think that the sun shines out of Thom Yorke's arse. Which is surprising considering how far up it, his own head is inserted.

OK Computer is not the best album in the world, its not even the best album by Radiohead.

Thats The Bends and probably Pablo Honey's above it aswell.

However to give them their due, they do fantastically good videos

Music is wonderful because people like different things, and hate different things, I might dislike Radiohead since OK, but its nothing compared to my hatred of The Streets, R&B, Rap or Boy Bands.

  9. HERE is an excellent way of dealing with the drug dealers contaminating our streets . :)

fiver says it was done by one of the rival drugs gangs/paramilitaries who used the drug trade to pay for their weapons during the last 20 years.

Now they're just well armed drug dealers who like to protect their patches and pretend to be on the moral high ground
