I've just got back from Mexico and saw Shooters, Wild Hogs and Blades of Glory on the flights.
Shooters is pretty good if silly. Wild Hogs is acceptable and Blades of Glory is incredibly silly but rather funny, with some excellent set pieces. But is really silly

Well back from my hols
The Life and Times of The Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson had me laughing out loud a number of times.
Vulcan 607 is a fantastic book

actually its because the FA dont support the Ref's when they do make the right call. Any player talking back to the ref, yellow card. Abuse from the manger - sent to the stands banned from the ground during the match.
Players banned for three matches for waving imaginary cards. Players banned for the next match if they question any decision.
Thats whats needed if you want ref's to be able to stand up to managers.

The next book's a bit of a disapointment I found. But Cloud of Sparrow's is brilliant.
Just finished Insomnia by Stephen King for about the 30th time, I do love that book

Ooo the Joker
-
There's a good joke there at some point I'm sure.
All the best

Ah but have they done the theme music like the cartoon?
These things are important.
Anyone watched/heard anything about the Simpsons other than the prerelease guff?

normally thats our summer

Coincidencely, I read the book of Die Hard 2 about 10years ago, its actually quite good as trashy adventure books go. And yes the fuses are accurate
-
to be fair the bit till they get to Rivendale can be skipped once you've read it the first time.
Has anyone read The Children of Hurren yet?
To keep cheeky begbie happy, I shall attempt some of Mr Welsh's finest again, but don't be surprised if you hear about an air rage incident on a plane to mexico at the start of August.

Let's get it straight, Trainspotting is a great book. It just requires more effort than the sort of "Achtung! Gott in Himmel! For you Tommy ze vor is ofer!" prose than Flopper is used to.
You seem to know more about how they're writen than I do.
I've read trainspotting and the prose ruined it for me.
I did however really enjoy his short story about the girl damaged by thalidamide (sp)
But not the rest of them.
Each to their own.
Still, can't stress enough to those going to read LoTR this summer, IF ITS IN ITALICS SKIP IT.
Although i'll now expect Cheeky Begbie to jump up and down on my head because I'm missing some pseudo intellectual greatness about the pointless poems or songs?
For the remaining mere mortals, they're not important, nothing to do with the plot and actually take away from story. In my humble opinion of course.
Labyrinth by kate moss is a pile of stinky pooh

Cheeky Siders - known as Begbie to his mates

Cheekster, we'll have to disagree over Welsh, I cant stand his prose, I really cant.

I must admit I enjoyed Vulcan 607 as well - especially since the Vulcan was the first real aeroplane I got to work on the RAF, but I'm a bit sceptical on the actual claims of the damage done, by it - Good read though
it closed the run way for a bit but mainly showed the argentinians that we can hit their mainland bases (we couldnt, but they didnt know that)
It was all psychological warfare, as was the sinking of the Belgrano, which sod the 200mile exclusion zone, kept the Argentinian fleet at base and left the British Fleet unmolested by the naval forces which would have destroyed the task force and therefore took a great role in winning the conflict for the UK.
Had a wander round Bookers at the weekend and my current Holiday reading list (ive got an 8 hour flight, im guessing I'll have read most of these by the time we land.)
is
Vulcan 607 - Roland White
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - JK Rowling
The Cold Moon - Jeffery Deaver
Victoria Cross Hero's - Michael Ashcroft
The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid - Bill Bryson
The War of Wars (Napoleonic Wars) - Robert Harvey
Wild Fire - Nelson DeMille

its the middle film symdrom I feel, trying to get lots of plots and characters in, and then some stuff at the end to make it a worthwhile film.
Imelda Staunton as Umbridge was fantastic and made any bad things about the film pale in comparison compared to her performance.
That little laugh she does
-
its the ramblings of a deluded lunatic, what do you expect? Still, its considerably better written than anything by Irvine Welsh
-
saw it last night, not abd at all.
Still, Simpsons the Movie looks like it'll be awesome. As does Transformers and Evan Almighty could well be rather amusing.
-
possibly, but if the whole weather pattern's knackered, then who knows what we'd get.
On an aside, did anyone listen to FiveLive drive the other night, with some guy from Hull claiming that the government had deliberately flooded the town? I know they're not great, but the Government arent that devious.

its called climate change Abbey.

ha ha ha. Where as Mein Kampf, is the only book you reckon is worth reading.
This is rather good though if you liked the Dambuster's book Bryan
-
Each to their own I suppose. Especially with comedy.
Did you watch/enjoy Spaced and Shaun of the Dead?
I wonder how much Safeways paid to have their brand everywhere?
-
watched Hot Fuzz last night for the first time.
Laughed like a drain.
Definitely a lot gorier than I expected. Especially the death of the repoter.
Glad to see DH4.0 is as silly and fun as the others? Does he wear the vest though? I heard he didnt

got round to watching transformers on Tuesday.
Incredibly silly and unbelievable and Im not sure the camera was ever still longer than 3 seconds.
However, I really really enjoyed it, it has a pace and humour running all the way through it that meant that I was carried along quite happily.
Megatron should have been a sodding gun though, artistic merit or not. Damn you Bay, Damn youuuuu
