  1. Agreed neekoy.

Croatia at international level are man for man better than England all over the park.

How many times have players really looked brilliant and huge prospects for international level but never find a performance for their country?

We have half an England team full of those characters at the moment.

You know much about the likes of Srna , Simunic, Pletikosa or Leko or are as you as usual basing your evidence on two games that you have watched. Until you have seen players play on numerous times for country or club I cant see how people can make such massive assumptions . Yes as a team Croatia have been better, but measured on raw talent they are not as good as the English.

Look at Man City they are above Chelsea in the league , yet would you say they are better individually ?

As for you Neekoy you are a poster I respect in the main, but why do you support an English club? when you clearly have such a dislike for anything English. As soon as England loose at anything you are their running them down.

Agreed we as a sporting nation could take some lessons from the Australians in terms of preparation, mental attitude & pride at representing your country.

  2. Well I don't think Gerrard is a top international, more of a run all day, good PL player. You have taken my point completely the wrong way round. I said the TEAM, I even put it in big letters for the hard of hearing. There are some good, even international class players in the team, but it is a very poor TEAM and it's a team game.

You Obviously dont watch much football outside of rovers ,if you honestly believe that gerrard is not one of the best players in his postion in the world

  3. Sorry to pick on this particular post.

All the excuses in the world cannot hide the fact the England TEAM is crap. People can spout on all they want about talent, golden generation, this, that and the other but it all boils down to one thing. The team is rubbish and has done nothing of real note since beating Germany 5-1 six years ago. They just aren't any good, it doesn't matter, more important things happen in football but it's clear England are very poor when playing as a team.

So you dont think that the likes of Owen, Rooney, Gerrard, etc etc are not top International level players? Agreed as a team we have been pants for over 2-3 years but i believe this in not due to a lack of talent , moreover the problems i listed in my original post. You ask Bilic who he would have from England if he could and their would be very few Croatians that get into a combined XI, yet what thet have is a passionate coach, a good team ethic and a will to do well for their country. Something Engalnd have lacked since Euro 2004.

Out of the two starting XI on wens if measured in terms of raw talant only Modric, Eduardo & Kraclaer would get into a combined XI, and thats without the availaibilty of Owem , Rooney etc

  4. Yes I do think they are a better team though I'm not surprised you disagree. It is many years since England have played as the Croatians did or indeed played at the level befitting their alleged station.

    Correct

Individually no they are not. That’s what the next coach faces, creating a Team of good individual players with a lack of motivation/ego problem into a proper team

  5. England have played consistently poorly for over two years. Yet I have to disagree with the usual suspects when they say that other teams are SUPERIOR.

With this current crop it is not a matter of talent, because imo if you measure teams on pure talent then this squad is as good as any in Europe. What the problem with this current squad is motivation, poor coaching / tactics and too many big time Charlie attitudes (fuelled by stupidly high wages and an unfounded celebrity/pop star culture that follows them). There is also still the trait to pick players if they play for certain clubs rather than been picked on current form or actual talent.

If we can get a world-class disciplined coach, who will pick players on ability, form and most fundamentally a desire to play for their country I see no reason why England should comfortably finish top of there WC qualifying group.

  6. I see that the "Football Manager" play station generation are out in force on this thread.

People may mock the FM games and those that play them, but if you have ever played the games you would realize the scouting system used by the games to generate player stats is in a different league to even the best football clubs

It is quite uncanny how many unknown gems first spotted on the game have devolped into world class stars , players playing in footballing backwaters that only the most avid FM or CM scout would have access too.

  7. Does anyone know to change the WEP encryption key on XP & Vista for wireless connection? I thought that I’d managed to change it but keep on being unsuccessful. Any advice would be helpful

Secondly my G’friend has signed up to AOL Wireless and was promised a top speed of 8 mb, yet I ran the website which Den linked her max speed for downloads was under 1 mg which is pitiful. Their obviously a problem, Is it an ISP issue? a problem with here laptop or both. Because the results seem really slow for wireless internet

  8. Like I said we have no chance of beating Croatia, heh heh too excited I suppose. Is this really a full effort by Israel they do look a little lack lustre, when Russia score again will the conspiracy theories begin?

    ??

Croatia arent that good, England have been realy realy poor, but id put money on them beatin Croatia on Wens night thats why their odds on to win.

Get in Isreal 2-1 we will see on wens how good Croatia are

  9. No, the goal was for hiding the brown bag, for appearances only :D . See how much room Israel are allowing now. The Ruskis will win.

If for some reason they don't win, England have no chance of beating Croatia anyway. I just watched an archive of England v Scotland on Fox, the difference in the passion and pride of teh English players then to now was glaringly obvious.

    ??

  10. A good 5 or 6 years from him left then!

IF in January Fulham still want to pay £5m for Roberts would you take it? I would!

Id snatch their hand off for 5 million quid, imagine who hughes would bring in with that sort of cash given his expertise in the transfer market. All his stomping around and moodyness; just before he got injured put me off him.

  11. Exactly tcj, hit the nail on the head with the comment about regular football. Mourinho signed three of the best wingers around (SWP, Robben and Duff) yet was starting some games with not a single conventional winger on the pitch. That would make anybody get upset- in fact I remember Duffer at Chelsea saying "all I want to do is play football".

Perhaps I should have encouraged bazza to carry on digging his hole?

It is all an academic conversation because of Duff's wages- when he moved to Newcastle, he went from £75K a week to £55K a week at a time Liverpool were only paying £40K max (except for Gerrard). Newcastle also coughed up for a lot of contractual elements effectively buying Duffer out of his Chelsea contract so whilst Chelsea only received £5m for him, they had nothing to pay in severing his contract.

Liverpool were not interested in doing that and to be honest, Chelsea were probably more comfortable with Duffer being at Newcastle than having Liverpool solve their left wing problem.

BTW JM didn’t sign Robben or Duff it was under he previous manager

As for digging a hole pip, again you are clutching at straws, ive stated my opinion that Duff is not the same player he was, he has lost that yard of pace, looked unfit before he was injured and saw rumours of ‘castle trying to unload him. It seems obvious to me that you clearly have not seen him play for the past 2-3 seasons.

If duff was so good then why would a manager such J.M allow him to go so cheaply (don’t give the contractual stuff, you’re guessing and assuming again)

Again your assuming, I think you will find that there quite a few players at l’pool on more 40k , Im guessing your basing your assumptions on the bellamy & Neil prospective deals. The reason why they weren’t offered top whack deals is because they were only ever going to be squad players.

BTW I think you’ll find that even before the American ownership. The likes of Kewall, Carragher, Alonso and Owen were all on above your 40k claim.

  12. Bloody hell, all this talk of Duff being finished on a thread where the general trend is one of how superb Dunn has been since he came home is pretty naive and ironic. Duff has been off the boil for less time than Dunny was for God's sake!

Bellamy, I highlight your post, not to support my first point, but only because I was under the impression that Mourinho reluctantly let Duff go because he was no longer happy at being unable to hold down a regular starting place? Same as Robben. If MGP were to leave, I'd advocate bringing Duff back.

EDIT: argh, somebody just reminded me of Duff's disgraceful badge kissing in front of the Rovers fans and his insulting celebrations at the final whistle. I'd probably still bring him back though, just because he was such a good player.

Robben was sold for 25 million, duff 5 m and yes Duff was a world-class player, Dunn's actual perforamnces with Brum were good ,ask any big club fan. It wasnt a perforamnce thing with Dunny it was his fitness & injury situation, with duff his perforamnces over the past 3 seasons have been poor. Due to injury taking ( and generally unfit) there toll when a winger who relies on pace , losses a a yard or two . He is never the same player

  13. I haven't heard criticism of Duff's training before- in fact I remember him being quoted at both Rovers and Chelsea saying that he loved the training.

And the badge kissing argument used for supporting a general character assasination is a bit wet as well.

In fact bazza, I'd stop digging the hole you've dropped yourself into.

For me, the key differences between Dunn coming home and Duff coming back are:

    - they both might have lost some pace but loss of pace is far more critical to a winger of Duff's style than to a central midfielder; Dunn used to be an option out wide for Rovers but I doubt Sparky would use him there now

    - Duff is in the list of the richest footballers with a personal wealth of around £10m. Unless he is turning philanthropic as he moves into what should be his peak playing and earning years, Duffer is way outside our wage structure whereas at least the porn boys knew how to keep a grip on what they paid their players at BIG CLUB- most of the time.

It will be another year to 18 months before Duffer could remotely come onto the radar of a club with Rovers' current means and if Duff shows that he is back to something like form and fitness he will get offered a lucrative extension at St James.

The problem is with you Philipl is that a lot of your knowledge is based on assumption. If you had watched Duff, before he was injured at Newcastle and in his last 18 months at Chelsea he was god damn awful, unfit and overweight its quite obvious that you’ve not seen much of Damien prformances over the past 3 seasons. A manager as shrewd as Mourinho does not sell 27 year olds at a 12 million loss, unless there is some reason, the reason I understand it from a few Chelsea supporters is that he was not giving it his all in training.

Then we have his move to Newcastle he could have gone to Liverpool but went to Newcastle instead, you were amongst those calling Lucas Neil greedy arrogant etc, when he went to Wham, whats the difference, they are both money orientated. He turned down Champs league for Newcastle

He was a brilliant player for us, one of best to wear the Rovers colours in the past couple of decades and I was as gutted as anyone when he left. But we must face facts he is nothing like the player he was at rovers and was struggling to get into a very poor Newcastle outfit before he was injured

  14. How do you know?

His work ethic (or lack of it) during chelsea training seasons, was one of the primary reasons for the taking a 12 million loss on him, and generally during interviews he seems to have chnged. Then we have the badge kissing, one week he apparenly cries when leaving rovers the next kissing his chelsea badge. He repeated this at Newcastle. He also seems to be unfit, a little overweight when he has played , pointing to the fact that he dosent train properly.

Anyhow my main point was that he is not good enough for a team, with top 6 aspirations

  15. If we are forced into selling MGP, then Duff could be an option. Otherwise I doubt we'd look to spend on another high profile left winger.

When will people get it, Duff will never be the same player he was 3-4 years ago, infact I seriously doubt he could down a place at any top ten club any longer. He has devolved a big time charley attitude, lost 2 yards of pace and was unfit at Chelsea, that’s why they sold him for nearly a 12 m loss. Anyone who saw him play for N’castle or Chelski would realize his.

The difference with Dunny was, yes they were both injured constantly, but when he did play for big club he played well, as most big club fans will admit. Dunny wants to play for this club and prove a point; I seriously doubt that Duff feels the same. Let’s stop reminiscing and move on, we don’t need any big time Charlie’s who have underperformed for the past 3 seasons

  16. The problem that I have with our own and other nation’s policy towards drugs, it that they are predominantly reactionary. What I mean by this is that they attempt to tackle drugs when they entered the destination country. Through policing, intelligence then subsequently education & rehab etc.

What needs to happen Is that we must cut the supply, at the moment supply is outstripping demand thus the subsequent dramatic lowering of prices on the street (especially cocaine & heroin) lower prices equates to more users. Instead of spending billions on reactionary expensive UK strategies, why don’t we target the Drug the infancy of its production. At the moment we have the perfect opportunity to-do this in Afghanistan, where over 90% of the UK’s heroin originates from.

We need to give the Afghan poppy farmers another option apart selling poppies to earn a living. We should be investing our millions educating, re-skilling and creating other jobs in areas where the poppy is the only source of income. Failing this, why have state run poppy farms, where the farmers are guaranteed a fixed price and protection of the coalition forces from local warlords & Taliban. The poppy crop could then be used for medicinal purposes in the UK and other coalition nations

  17. its called climate change Abbey.

I can understand why climate change would cause more severe rainfall, more evaporation equates to more moisture in atmosphere thus more rainfall; however the temperatures have been freakishly low for this time of the year. I’ve been getting up and seeing temperatures as low as 9/10 degrees and that’s been in June & July. In fact I can’t rember a day in the last 5/6 weeks were the temperature has been above 20 c. If this truly was climate change caused by global warming then surely we would be seeing warmer temperatures with terrific outbursts of severer rainfall, rather than the constant rain and very low temps

  19. Article in stuff.co.nz about the Admiral. Love the caption under the picture!

He's apparently now the best paid New Zealand sportsperson, and they reckon he gets paid the same or more than the entire All-Blacks squad! I suppose that it just goes to show how ridiculous football wages are. Don't mind him getting paid it, though unlike some others I could mention :) (I'll freely admit that it's a Rovers bias, too :brfc:)

According to that article , Ryan’s new contract will mean that he earns around £24,000 per week although that is crazy in terms of the bigger picture, however in a footballing sense that is excellent value IMO when you the likes of Lampard & terry demanding 115k per week

  20. A latest update from the 606 boards

tombo1984 ( aka West Sussex Rover)

In reply to vinjay telling everyone what was on the nicko thread

"I wouldnt know about what was said on the boards, i got banned from both the Blackburn Rovers Official Messageboard for reporting someone who was slagging me off for being disabled (Lee banned me). Then got banned on the supporters board as Lee told Ste B i was a trouble maker"

    Vinjays reply

Lee Grooby's just power hungry and SteB is known as a dictator and banning people with a different opinion. I should know as I've also been banned from those boards.:lol:

Exactly it dosen't mean he's good but everything Nixon has said so far has turned out to be good.

  21. started a new game with rovers last week, sold pedersen to liverpool, bought drenthe as his replacement, and got wright phillips and saviola on loan, bought the usual suspects (vanden borre and enyeama) and currently sitting top of the league 2 points ahead of liverpool after about 15 games! i always start well then drop silly points as the season goes on, hopefully this time ill be able to keep the pace and finish top four

has anybody every splashed the cash on milito (the defender) before? im thinking of letting reid and/or mccarthy go to finance a move for him to bolster my defense as goalscoring hasnt been a problem for me so far!!

Yes ive brought Miltio before he is top notch but pricey- second season he will cost between 12-16 mill. If you can get Esequel Garay he is at least as good and will cost no more than 3 mill + he is a bit younger. If you want to spend big-bucks then why not go for Mertersaker ( sorry typo ) .

  22. Well I'm no expert but I know a bit about basic bussiness and a 3:1 debt to turnover ratio puts you on a very slippery slope.

Global brand or not when the cash runs out......

That analysis doesn’t take into account- United champions league exploits this season, the increased TV revenue starting from next season & their own ticket price increases which alone will generate 10-15% more income. Then we have the seperate foreign tv deals which will also lead to extra in icome
