What's in the papers Jim ?
-
Why does it always happen to me ?
I've just had a phone call (quite late it is as well !) saying that a man 'in the know' has let it out that we are trying to get Dalglish and Shearer !!
If not Dalglish and Newell !
Don't shoot the messenger

Found out the Advocaat rumour is doing the rounds in Scotland only.

With regards to the betfair situation, when looking at the market click on the name of the manager to get a graph on how much money has been traded on each manager and at what price. Now I've not looked since this morning (banned at work
) but compare the amount of money on Dick Advocat to the amount of money on Mark Hughes and Strachan. If people with inside knowledge of Advocats' appointment did know anything then they are hardly getting stuck in are they.
If the next Newcastle manager market is still available to view look at the graph for Souness. Ignore the looky sod who had £3 on at 1000/1 for a moment. When his price started to crash multiple bets of well over a grand were placed. By early yesterday morning bets of around £20,000 were piling on Souness albeit at small odds.
One report in a Newspaper or on a trustworthy site could bring people to put there fivers and tenners on any one manager. Apart from the top few there is not an awful lot of money around trying to lay the so called outsiders. This means that if 60 people put a tenner on on the basis of one Newspaper report then £600 has been chucked on and the price could drop quite rapidly giving the 66/1 into 25/1 syndrome. It very rarely means anything until significant bets are being layed.
Advocaat now 8-1.
You can only take what's avaliable, you can't crash in on Advocaat.
Someone is taking every price that becomes available.
Have to say when I made the post at dinner I'd not seen the betfair market since this morning. having looked at Advocat now I'd say he's defo in the frame. Not saying he's gonna get it by any stretch of the imagination but I bet his CV's on the table.
As an alternate point these 2 days are one of the few times I've read most of the posts as they happen during the day. DO YOU LOT NOT WORK?
Advocaat now favourite on Betfair !!

Advocaat 5-1 !
Hammered again ! 4-1 Advocaat.

Advocaat 5-1 !

Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell has distanced himself from speculation linking him with the managerial vacancy at Blackburn.
He is one of the early names in the frame to replace Graeme Souness who left Rovers yesterday to take over at Newcastle United.
Former Latics striker Mike Newell, now in charge at Luton, and Wales chief Mark Hughes are others who have already been linked with the post at Ewood Park.
Jewell told the Evening Post: "There's nothing to comment on as far as I'm concerned.
"I'm happy at Wigan, the club is moving forward all the time, and until someone tells me differently, I'm the manager here."
With Latics currently leading the Championship table, Jewell is highly regarded in the game.

Why is Advocaat continually backed on Betfair down to 9-1 ?
No-one has even mentioned him !
-
Just had a call from my mate who works in the media and he says there is only name in the frame and he's asked me to lump a bet on Betfair for him.
(And he's a tightarse !)
Strachan is the man.
Betfair offering 7-1 , get on while you can !

From the Independent
I don't think Barry will be affected by all of this," stated Burns after the national squad's training session, ahead of Scotland's opening group five encounter at Hampden Park. "He has matured so much recently, as he showed with that display against Spain."
Burns, who once played in Scotland's midfield himself, declared that Ferguson's performance in the 1-1 abandoned friendly in Valencia was "as good as I have seen him play." It justified the decision by Vogts and Burns to appoint Ferguson captain after the international retirement of Paul Lambert.
"You always want your captain to lead and he did that against Spain," said Burns. "Barry is as technically as good as any player around but there is another part to a midfielder's game, closing down and harry opponents, and he showed that in Valencia. Once you add that desire and attitude to technique, it takes you to another level.
"The challenge for Barry is that he now plays in the English Premiership againt people like Patrick Vieira, Steven Gerrard and Roy Keane. That has taken him up another level. He is having to prove himself all over again.
"He is still a young man and there is no doubt that he is going to become a top class international player. He has shown fantastic attitude, especially in coming back from that serious injury (a shattered knee) just after he joined Blackburn. He has grown as a person.

Why on earth is that "having a pop"? I think Henning was VERY fair, considering what the maggot did to him. And he's absolutely right- Souness has "managed to sell" Duff, Dunn etc! and only one of the four sales he mentioned was sensible.
Duff Dunn etc ?
He had no control over the Duff sale and as for Dunn, apaprently Birmingham fans call Souness Dick Turpin for the money he stole off them in exchange for Dunn and Taylor.
Souness did a fantastic job at Rovers and the old saying about leaving a club in a better state than when he came, sticks anyone knocking Souness' argument right up their a4se!

Betting (un) suspended again.
They just added two more names to the betting, Micky Adams and David Jones.
Advocaat's odds are really bugging me.

Betting suspended on Betfair !!!!!!!!!
Could be temporary - sometimes happens.
Advocaat still attracting money

Interesting story, hot off the news wire, troops ... "Martin O'Neill tonight shocked the scottish Football world by tendering his resignation at Celtic. The Irishman, a hero to all Hoops fans after guiding the Glasgow giants to three league titles and a UEFA Cup final in just four years, leaves to take up the reins at English Premiership side Blackburn Rovers.
"Just hours after the news broke that Graeme Souness had left Ewood Park to become manager of Newcastle United, Martin O'Neill has been unveiled as the suprise replacement in the Blackburn Rovers hot seat.
"Celtic fans throughout the world are desperately trying to come to terms with the sudden departure of a man widely believed to be the club's greatest manager since Jock Stein.
"As Rovers Chairman John Williams announced to reporters outside Blackburn's ground that a formal press conference on Souness' replacement would be held tommorow morning, O'Neill was hurried into a car at the other side of the stadium. However, those cameras which did catch sight of the new Rovers boss saw a man clearly upset to be walking out on his beloved SPL Champions.
"In a brief statement, O'Neill admitted he was sad to be leaving Scotland but that the lure of a return to the Premiership had proved irresistable. With the Tottenham and Liverpool jobs going to high-profile foreign coaches in the summer and no sign of Sir Alex Ferguson leaving Manchester United in the near future, the filling of the Newcastle vacancy convinced O'Neill he'd have to take the next available position if he wanted to rejoin the league he tonight described as "the most exciting in the world".
"It's Williams has been keeping tabs on the former Nottingham Forest and Northern Ireland player and ex Leicester City manager ever since O'Neill's Celtic defeated Blackburn home and away in the 2002/2003 UEFA Cup.
"As he was driven through the small throng of journalists, O'Neill admitted to one cheeky hack that he was very much looking forward to working with former Rangers players, Barry Ferguson, Lorenzo Amoruso and Tugay Kerimoglu.
"His first duty at Ewood Park will be to complete the signing of on-loan USA international midfielder Myred Herring."
HMMMM! WONDER WHO THEY'LL GET IN NEXT AT PARK-NED? IS WEE ADVOCAAT STILL LOOKING FUR A JOAB...?
Had me going as well !

ooops geordies in chatroom not happy when i said they copied us with shearer ,batty, given, king kenny and soey ,i only said kidds next...grumpy gits
Didn't it all start with Gordon Lee? I wonder how many of the "passionate faithful" even remember him? NEWCASTLE UNITED the BLACKBURN ROVERS wannabees.
I only just remember him i was only a yunker back then
Who remembers the white paint daubed near the Boulevard which said
"Gordon Lee is God"
I was very young at the time and found the remark quite amazing.

Weak link, no doubt about it.
Too small and too error prone.
-
I reckon Friedel will be his number one priority.
Given has always been their weak link.
-
Jim Branagan once signed my Shoot annual at St Josephs pirmary school christmas fair !
Still wouldn't vote for him though !
-
You mean they've got Saunders as well?!?!? You are seriously kidding
And money too...
JW said he would reveal details about the backroom staff when it has been sorted.
-
Youre wasting your time looking ay Skybet.
Betfair is where everything happens first.
On betfair Hughes is 5-1 and Strachan 7-1
-
Oh dear, Dick Advocaat backed down from 80-1 to 14-1 !

It would appear that Souness was scouting for Rovers at the Doncaster v Walsall match on Saturday when he was contacted by Newcastle. Presumably any player he was interested in will be now heading for the North East.
I would bet that the Rovers board are privately relieved that the "Souness problem" has been taken off their hands in that his recent record was worthy of the sack yet they could not afford to dismiss him. Thank you Newcastle for doing the job for them.
Of the managers available, Strachan is the only really credible candidate. Hughes is too involved with the Wales 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign and I believe that even the Rovers board, while weak, would not be so daft as to appoint Houllier. Any inexperienced manager plucked from the lower divisions would mean instant relegation IMO.
I've had a few good days in my long existence but the departure of Souness has brought a beam to my wrinkled old face. Any future without Souness in charge of the club is a better future as far as I'm concerned.
I found this poem on t'internet that sums up my feelings perfectly today.
If a happiness poem could bring forth a smile,
Then my face would always dress in style.
If my ears could hear my computer screen,
From one to another, they, too, would grin.
My keyboard types for my eyes not my tongue
This happiness poem will never be sung.
But what of my eyes? Don't they shine?
Yes, but not from this poem of mine.
The pen is mightier than the sword,
But a pen can write only words.
The feelings I sense and the senses I feel
For keyboard and screen remain far too real.
My ears and my nose remain at rest.
My cheeks and hairline are doing their best.
But if this happiness poem could make my mouth smile,
My face would forever dress up in style
Bye bye Souness. Good riddance.
Souness was 1st approached last wednesday.
Anyway I lost £20 because of you on Allardyce !
I've just put £20 on Strachan but am hoping for one of your 10 o'clock 'Sun'updates tonight to beat the bookies !
