  1.

Despite the line up being one I wouldn't have gone for, Gally and Arma would both be on the bench, I think we'll put up a decent performance tonight.  We aren't usually shit two games ion a row and Forest will come for the points which will suit us more than Luton sitting back.  Very poor start though.  BB sounds better than I expected on the radio, my expectations were pretty low though.

  2. I’d be tempted to get the in form Samuel on for Gallagher at half time, SG has looked ineffectual and just doesn’t seem to get into the right positions, unlike Collins at the other end. Might be a bit harsh on big Sam but I do worry he lacks that natural instinct.
Holtby for Johnson might be another possible change as we did look poor between the goals and lack penetration.

Great finish from Travis and good play from Bennett for the goal.

  3. Very good first half,  could be more than one.

First half hour Armstrong looked a different player and Evans was everywhere, both players showing what they are capable of, hope they keep it up second half.  Could have been more than one and we looked a real threat on the counter.

Reading came into it more, especially in the last ten minutes.

Gallagher has done well as have most players.

We really need to be back on it at the beginning of the second half, if we are we can win this, perhaps even comfortably.

  4. Can only think it’s Evans last chance to impress, he has had the odd good performance in the championship, as has Armstrong but neither would be in my first 11. Is Gallagher our wide again?

TM will need a good performance from the team he’s picked or it will reflect badly on him.

A real shame Rothwell is ill as I was hoping he was gonna start.

Not overly optimistic but always hoping.

  5. The Sun (which I wouldn’t normally read) are reporting that there’s a bid to buy the club and funds were/are being transferred.

A statement issued on Wednesday morning at 12.10am by Chris Farnell said: "This is devastating news for Bury FC.

“All of the Clubs senior staff are amazed that the Club was not allowed a small extension for a period of a few hours, in order that funds in excess of £6 million to be deposited into an account to provide proof of funds to the EFL.

“This was a genuine offer and up until the EFL announcement the funds were in the process of being transferred.

Now that opportunity to save the Club has been taken away from Bury FC.”

Farnell added: "On Wednesday morning we intend to try to make the EFL rescind their decision to expel Bury Football Club.

"The fight to save the Shakers goes on."

    it really is unbelievable

  6. @roversfan99 personally I just don’t think it’s right, I think the way to stop teams padding squads is by talking to them and if you think they are doing that don’t lend them any players in the future, it should be done by managers talking to each other and then up to the player to prove his worth.  I think mostly big clubs like Chelsea abuse the system.  Would you like it if TM dropped Lenihan or Williams for Tosin?

I, like some others think the loan system needs reworking as it’s too easy for bigger teams to do what I’ve mentioned above.

its fair enough though if you disagree and your argument is fair to your mind I just don’t agree.

Joe Rothwell has been excellent this season and adds massively to our attacking play.

If you are going to compare anyone unfavourably to last season, it has to be Dack. Did fairly well in front of the Sky cameras but has done nothing else. He really needs to step up a gear. Looks like a lad too worried about his image. You can imagine his other half - “don’t get any bruises to your face, darlin’, we’ve got a screen test next week”.

You don’t half make some leaps Stuart, the image stuff?? Dack played well against Hull and quite well against Fulham but yeah he can do a lot better but it’s early days.  I’m a big Rothwell fan but he’s in no way been excellent, he hasn’t really had the opportunity to be yet.  I do think he should start and we should be looking to build our team around him and Dack, working on their interplay and then making space for each other.  At the same time I do worry that he’s been asked to play a bit more centrally when he’s been on the pitch and it’s harder for him to find the space he had towards the end of last season.

Obviously a financial penalty is not something a team loaning a player will expect to pay, its basically something that ensures that the team loaning the player doesnt just want him to pad the squad out.

You may be right, it may be unrealistic, but we need to be taking far more care loaning our players out. It did seem incredibly unrealistic to loan Magloire to League 1 and expect him to play regular football.

Not only is it unrealistic, I think it is wrong and ought to be outlawed in my opinion.  There's a lot wrong with the loan system with Chelsea and others stockpiling talent, I think fees should be outlawed as well.  Players should get in teams on merit and merit only.

Clubs should be able to deal with each other fairly and if they don't then they shouldn't deal with each other.  We have loaned a few players to Rochdale over the years, most recently Sam Hart, right?  If we think they are just padding their squad we don't loan them players in the future.

Magloire seems very highly rated, played one game where he was decent for us and one game where he struggled a bit last season in the Championship, I don't see why we wouldn't expect him to start for what would be expected to be a lower mid table/relegation battling league one team.  Rochdale have conceded 5 in the 5 games not great, not bad.  It is early on the season, let's hope he gets a chance and gets in the team.

We had to play direct if Both Graham and Gallagher play from start. I think starting both was wrong due to Morrison and Flint at the back. Need to play Armstrong or Rothwell. Chapman needs to start performing better for under 21's to.push for a place on bench.

Im pleased with 3 clean sheets in a row. Walton getting better game by game..

We don’t have to play direct with Graham and Gallagher, both players can play football on the ground, Graham certainly can, he’s not the most mobile but he’s technically better than some give him credit for being, as mentioned earlier he was (although younger) successful in a Brendan Rogers team and Gallagher was bought with a more passing style in mind.

  10. I think we were the better team first half but not by much.

Second half Cardiff got on top a little bit and we didn’t create much until we bucked up in the last five minutes.

Downing lacking the energy of previous game and Johnson seemed to fade and was less influential in the second half.

Obviously we have been better at the back and seems like it’s at least in part meant we’ve been less attacking.

Rothwell didn’t do much when he came on but should start the next game as we know he can open up teams.

Dack wasn’t great today but he was good against Hull and decent against Boro and Fulham.

Just because we have DG up top and Gally on the wing doesn’t mean we need to lump it but it happens to often and although Gally was good on the right against Boro I think we need to try something different.

Not a bad result but we need to improve to match Mowbray’s ambitions for the season.

  11. I think we’ve been pretty decent but still lacking a little cutting edge going forward, been some near misses, Dack laying off to graham, graham laying off to Johnson, both just a touch off from being very very good chances, Dack with a back post header straight to keeper instead of over him to unmarked graham.  Need to add a little quality.

Cardiff had a couple of decent chances and have looked occasionally dangerous but Rovers had more control of the game.

whichever team shows that bit off extra quality will win.

Ealton made a good save and has had a couple of good catches too.

Still, with Travis being relatively green - I’d say Smallwood was the nearest to his “type” - Evans being even less likely to put a foot in but both inferior to Lewis.

Davenport has had numerous injuries. Had both lads left, and Travis/Johnson had a knock - who plays?

The main bone of contention over the summer was lack of defensive cover, thus I’m happy we’ve got such midfield depth.

You may well be right about Richie, but maybe he wants to try his hardest to get better here? A manager, fans and club he obviously loves, even if his ability has been usurped.

This is pure speculation but when Smallwood got taken off after 50 something minutes versus Oldham and trudged around half the pitch with his head down I thought to myself that he must be gutted knowing it was possibly his last chance to impress TM and he had failed miserably.  I'd guess that the fact he was taken off quite early and hasn't been in the squad means that TM must think he's surplus to requirements.  I think Evans is a much more able player even though he lacks Richie's heart, and even though I'm not a big fan of Cory's I do think he's had some very good games during his time here just not enough.  If Johnson and Travis were to get injured I think Bennett is also an option (although TM seems to be a fan of him at right back) but I also wonder if it might mean a chance for Brad Lyons (I've not seen him play) after all he's not the youngest and has a season in the Scottish prem behind him.

Tosin looked pretty good against Fulham, although one game isn't enough to judge I'm optimistic about his ability at centre back.  Daragh and Derrick are not exactly famous for being injury free so I am sure he will get his chance so we will see whether he is good enough to oust one of them.  It is a good problem to have.  DL and DW have played well the last couple of games and those stats are fantastic but we are not talking Maldini and Moore.  I wouldn't worry too much about City just yet.

No the commentary was good. They even brought up about Dack and Grahams relationship and how Dack needs to figure out a way to play with a different striker. It was the "punditry" post game with John Goodman and Kevin Davies that I thought was awful.

It was a bit strange, especially as they both said we deserved to win.

  15.

Good win and a good performance but as TM said lots to improve upon.

One of the most pleasing things last night, like the Fulham game, is we are going for it in away games and not trying to hold on.

Against Fulham we played pretty well, very well until the Cairney wonder goal, last night we also went for it and it could have gone wrong with the penalty but overall I think we will get (hopefully a lot) more points being more positive with this team.  I think if we can truly be on the front foot more going into games then there's a lot to be optimistic about this season, it will go wrong sometimes but I hope we continue with it through the odd bad result.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? That's what I'd be saying to grumpy iFollow customers anyway. ?

I did :D, then I quoted you from the here and they said they'd look into it properly at half time, was still a little ahead though which is poor I think. Still delighted with the result.

    I should’ve read it first!

Furthermore, the club will knock off the price of a match ticket for the first two home games from the Season Ticket price. So, anyone with a Charlton Athletic or Middlesbrough match ticket can contact the Ticket Office on 01254 372000 and take advantage of the offer … AND be included in the £10k prize draw”

    A modicum of sense.

Still seems crazily optimistic/completely unrealistic but would be fantastic if it happened.  They shouldn't be criticized for trying stuff though.

Tricky one tonight, will DG play?  I'd guess Gallagher will start up top and we will try to do what we were trying to do against Fulham, although Danny did get taken off early on Saturday so it's possible.

Last season we played very well there with Armstrong getting a rare start as striker and they were quite poor.  It's gonna be a close game no doubt but hard to see us beating them for the third time in a row if we do it will be a really good sign that we can do better this season and give us confidence for the Cardiff game.

Hopefully, Johnson is able to play most games and doesn't get leggy, he's a good footballer as well as a gritty one and he really ought to be giving the rest of the team lessons in how to time headers because he is outstanding at it.  I think if we'd have had him and Travis in the middle during Bowyer's time we would have actually made the top 6.

  19. Good close game today.  Nice to get a win and pretty much everyone played their part.  I didn’t think anyone stood head and shoulders above the others but special mention for Gallagher who did surprisingly well on the right wing, worked really hard and even put a few good balls in.  We looked fairly solid and didn’t give too many chances away.  We didn’t make a bucket load of chances and still need to work on that, though we had a few after Boro started to go for it and Rothwell should have scored.  Cunningham was much better than Bell has been.  Following on a decent performance but disappointing result versus Fulham much more optimism around the ground, even a few Mowbray chants which he was quick to acknowledge.
