Our current EFL squad would have 23 EFL squad at the minute. 25 is the limt

I think a few of those 23 will be moved out on loan. We may also not include Bradley Dack until Jan, I suspect we'll not be limited to 2 more signings. That said I suspect this management will not be able to manage more then 2.

May be he won't sign a new contract so we decided to sell..

Actually that's my over riding issue at the moment more then signing any other new players.

We lose Rothwell, Nyambe, lenihan, Kaminski and Diaz at the end of the season as free agents. After that the only sellable asset left is a Bradley Dack stuck in the garage for repair. I genuinely believe the first 2 will not sign a contract as in Rothwell case Brentford/ similar clubs are intrested and in Nyambe he became so disillusioned  that players who weren't right backs where favoured in front of him.

We should be doing everything we can to get the other 3 to sign. We lose all 5 next season we are going to go straight to league 1

Thats maybe how we have play now and use the players to their strengths. Play on the counter attacks and use our pace .

    fans at tonight game

I genuinely enjoy us playing like this. My worry is we bring 4-5 loans and revert back to the Bradford game. Anyway won't complain great to get some early points!

You can't compare Mowbray to Kean, Kean was just Vile,

The only likeness is media manipulation, as with the sky interview where he seemed resigned his time was up, which had many quarters in football and in our supporter base feeling sorry for him.

Then, this season its been about how we have no money, and him literally begging people to buy armstrong.

He took the unusual step of talking in depth about Obafemi, despite him being another clubs player. The sceptical side of me would ask , is this his ready made excuse if the deal falls through that we couldnt afford his wages/transfer? It would certainly strengthen his position if we have parted with 12 and got no-one in? Surely no manager can have the finger pointed at them if we go down due no investment maybe his thought process?

Mowbray has served his purpose, a steady pair of hands to stabilise the sinking ship.

His finest hour at rovers is taking us back up, but on wages alone, it would of been a disaster had we not gone straight back up, given the gap in quality we had over the opposition.

However in the championship, we have not kicked on. He talks about a journey, but its like he keeps forgetting something so goes back to the start of the journey without ever reaching the destination.

This COVENTRY link in the boardroom and management is unhealthy. I don't believe Waggott has the balls to recommend TMs sacking. Its no different now to Shagnew, and Kean. They knew together they were bullet proof, divided they would fall.

As I said last week, I don't expect an awful lot this season. The ground is beginning to look old, the training facilities are no longer the state of the art, other clubs have evolved and not only passed us, but are now lapping us.

The squad is lower championship/higher reaches of Division 1. The management is passed its sell by date and predictable. The owners are clueless, and the fans have left in their thousands.

The memories are all we have, and top flight football in the current climate is a near impossible mission

    I really liked this post.

first of all to compare my hate for Kean and dislike for Mowbray is not even close. I hate Kean and can never forgive his or others at the time influence on our club.

My distain for Mowbray is like the similar i felt for our over clinging on league one players (Bennet, Mulgrew, Smallwood) we should no longer have them, however as soon as they left the club my anger subsided. The obvious extra anger we all have is we feel Mowbray is part of a circle jerk club where they all feel untouchable.

I feel Mowbray should go but to say it's Kean level of hated is either being dramatic or short term memory. If Mowbray mentions an imaginary dog or claims he was spiked i'll reopen this conversation.

So, working on the assumptions that Mowbray stays, the 3 contracts get triggered, Johnson stays, Wharton and Dack are injured and Armstrong leaves... (ignoring U23s yet to play). We have:

    GK: Kaminski, Pears

    RB: Nyambe*, Rankin-Costello*

    LB: Pickering, 👀

CB: Lenihan, Ayala, Carter, Magloire, 👀, 👀

    CDM: Travis, Johnson*, Davenport

    CM: Rothwell*, Buckley 👀, 👀

WF: Gallagher, Brereton, Dolan, Chapman, Butterworth, 👀

    ST: 👀 👀

We have 19 players for August-January (4 technically are out of contract next month).

    Bleak.

That Squad worries me,  i'm also really worried if we rely on triggering extensions to keep Nyambe, RC & Rothwell as it would trigger to me they want to move on!

As you mentioned 7/8 decent signings needed. Even if we get 10-15m on Armstrong and nearly goes to Newcastle i don't know how fill those gaps... probably another 5 loan signings. I know mowbray mentioned freebies and upcoming league one signings but buy league one and that's where we'll end up!

We aren't in any danger, now, of sitting in 22nd come Wednesday 10pm. The win means we can't be overtaken by Wycombe and unless there's a dramatic turnaround in goal difference by Sheffield Wednesday. I don't see Rotherham winning 4 of their last 7. Derby can finish on 55 points, so the mathematically certainty of safety rests on 56 points or a couple more victories.

Victory for us at Wednesday on Tuesday couple with a defeat for Derby at Preston would assure of safety and championship football again next season.

We could finish on 62 points in 8th - highly unlikely of course, but it seems absurd that such a high finish is still mathematically possible this late in the season. We still have to play teams currently in 19, 20, 22 and 23, in what must be the easiest run in, on paper, for any team.

I'm not counting my chickens, just yet. (apologies for the very poor pun)

I want us to win every game and nothing will ever change that so I'm all for another 12 points. However i hope the small chance of a good end of season doesn't stop the need for a change of management. It would worry me all like the day Steve Kean managed to steal a few decent final results and keep us up against Wolves and he was given a clean slate prior to the season of doom.

  7. The season has been a weird one and a huge disappointment.

There is one game that defined our season was Bristol City Away. To paint a picture our form into that game was P16 W7 D4 L 5  GF 31 GA 19. PPG was 1.56 Our defence wasn’t great but we always pressed from the front and Armstrong was on fire 14 goals from 15 games. We were only 6 points from top spot and had showed great fight against Brentford away a few days earlier.  I remember that game Armstrong took a huge amount of chances looking more desperate as he shot on sight and the late winner shot our confidence and derailed us.

Since then Armstrong has scored 7 in 20 our form since has been P25 W 5 D 7 L 13 GF 21 GA 28 PPG 0.88. our goals conceded per game has stayed stable but the goals dried up.

This isn’t a post against Armstrong by the way but our reliance on him. I also found after that game our forwards slowly became more selfish (the free flowing upfront passing between our forwards) and possession became much more backwards (that actually started vs Barnsley 4 games earlier)

I actually found the start of the season so exciting to watch but things changed where we seems obsessed by stats opposed to football. It’s a shame but it’s now time for a change. I’m just hoping we stay up…
