  1. Funnily enough my dad has been saying that all season (about getting Wilcox back). Still, he's insane and wears clown pants to home games so what does he know!
  2. Agree with rover6? So do I strange as it feels. We simply haven't replaced Duff at all. Just because we can't get anyone on the left wing as good as Duff doesn't mean we shouldn't have anyone there at all. Even if we can't have Duff's trickery and delivery we still need someone who can knock a cross in every now and then. Is Steven Reid really a left midfielder? For a large chunk of this season the opposition has just needed to keep Emerton quiet to completely dull our attacking edge. No wonder we have had to see countless balls played into the feet of our forwards with their back to goal, there had been no width to the team and hence no other means of delivery into the box except from the right. That interested me about attempting to bring in McBride; why bring in a target man if you have few means to send in high crosses? We don't need a Giggs on the left, just someone who can give us a bit of variety. Or even bring in a left back and shove Gresko forward where, as a former attacking wingback, he should have no problems. Gresko has often looked better going forward this season than when he has to defend anyway. As for Alan Mahon, he may not be the answer but surely he deserves more of a run than just a few games before being hauled off at half time? I agree and disagree FLB. We certainly lack balance and width on the left and Souness has to be blamed for not replacing Duff. But we also lack variation up front and pace in midfield. When Yorke and Cole play together they both like the ball either played to feet or just in behind the defender. This would be OK if we then had players out wide or runners from midfield that they could lay the ball off to. Unfortunately though Cole and Yorke frequently find themselves isolated and consequently lose the ball. In addition, because our midfield's only option when in possession is to play the ball straight to Yorke or Cole, who are usually tightly marked, they also lose possession. I watched the Bolton game tonight and Kevin Davis was magnificent (there's a phrase I never thought I'd write!). he's exactly what we need up front, a big, hard-working centre forward who can give us variations to our play. He runs into the channels, wins flick-ons and generally messes the opposition about to the extent where they start to panic. A player like Davis would give our midfield far more options and would also bring the best out of his striking partner (Cole would have a field day playing alongside Davis).
  3. hmm, agree up to a point, although obviously replacing Duff is a non-starter. And if Rovers ever do employ another player to beat the opposing right back and get a cross in, Souness would do well never to play him for more than 45 minutes at Ewood - the 45 we attack the Blackburn End. The first time on his debut he doesn't produce what Duff used to the Riverside will be awash with murmours of discontent, the second time they'll want the poor guy slung out of the club. Yeah, that pesky crowd eh?
  4. They've just reported on 5 Live that all the players at Leeds are up for sale - including Smith. Newcastle are thought to be favourites to get him. If this is true then it confirms the players stance against the proposed wage refferal, at least for the time being. So, fire sale at Leeds, all stock must go, hurry, hurry...
  5. It's just been confirmed on Sky Sports News that Leeds have been given a week's extension to their deadline.
  6. Bloody hell, even Notts County got out of admin with about 10 deadline extensions! I think leeds might get a fair few more. Leeds have two chances to get out of it. 1: Someone puts in enough money between now and Monday to pay off the immediate debts. This will allow Leeds to continue until the next major repayment is due. 2: Someone comes in with £100 million or so to completely wipe out all the clubs' debt. Option 2 isn't going to happen. Option 1 might but it will only be delaying the inevitable. Leeds will be in the first division and in administration next season. There's every chance they could be the next Sheffield Wednesday and fall even further.
  7. It's OK IMO. The stand-out song is The Time is Running Out but there are other good ones.
  8. I expect you'll be taking your own life any second now then!
  9. Matt Jansen, Grabbi and Tommo are all capable of playing 'in the hole'. But Souness has to play Tugay, Flitcroft and Ferguson to achieve his personal crusade to take over from Houllier as the Premiership's most negative boss. Enjoy your weekend in Southampton Rover6?
  10. To get back to the topic, Souness has done more than enough for this club to deserve the chance to turn things around. We've been down this road before and have hastily got rid of managers before - it's never worked. Very rarely does a change of management half way through a season result in a change in fortunes. However, Souness has to sort the team out pretty quickly because it will only take a few more performances like tonights for me to change my mind - and I'll be one of the more patient one's.
  11. Mansun's first album was briliiant. I haven't heard the one you mention but they are a top band.
  12. I recently bought The Coral's first album and the Cooper Temple Clause's second album - they're both crap.
  13. I always enjoyed reading your column Rev. You may have talked rubbish from time to time (imho ) but at least you were prepared to come on here and argue your case. I guess being a "fans representative" is a thankless job as we all have different opinions. Anyone who writes that column will get stick - I just hope the new guy has the courage to come on here and back up his arguments as well.
  14. So who is this new bloke? Does he post on here?
  15. Only got back from Dublin in the early hours of this morning (plane delayed for 4 hours - not good) and this is the first time I've felt up to writing anything on here! It was a great day in Bray and it was good to meet many of the posters on here. Oh, and I'm sorry I didn't make it into Dublin in the evening. We did intend to - we got off the Dart at Booterstown to walk back to our hotel and get changed. However, it's a long walk so we stopped off in a local pub for refreshments and, what with me in my Rovers shirt, we got chatting to a few locals. Before we knew it it was after one in the morning and I could barely walk!
  16. I was in the Temple Bar pub myself last night - I can thoroughly recommend it!! There are many others worth a visit as well.
  17. I got my tickets today too. At least i think they were tickets - they may just have been posters advertising the match!!
  18. I've just booked mine as well. I spoke to a very friendly fella on the phone - let's hope the locals are the same. By the way Flopsy, I'm equally worried about the hotel.
  19. Any more news on this yet?
  20. The drinking bit sounds good Dr - I'll be there. Not sure about the exercise bit the day after though!!
  21. I'm not keen on Guiness. Now, if you could organise a free tour of the Jameson's factory...
  22. I'm certainly planning a couple of days out - I quite fancy a day at the races in Tipperary on the Thursday evening. Might go somewhere on the Bank Holiday Monday as well but I've no idea what public transport will be like on that day. I don't think the hotel itself has a golf course - but I think it's near a couple. Ste - it's about 3 miles from the city centre (where Temple Bar is) apparently.
  23. I'm definately not rich! Just thought it was too good an opportunity to miss. It's costing me £240 for 6 nights in a five star hotel - not often you can stay in a 5 star hotel for £40 a night. I'm not taking my car though - the ferries cost a fortune - so I will be getting the Dart to Bray. I've never been to Ireland before so I'm really looking forward to it.
  24. I'm staying at the Radisson SAS St Helens Hotel. It's about 3 miles south of Dublin I think. Expedia.co.uk are doing a good deal on it - stay 4 nights and get the fifth free.
  25. I've booked my hotel now and decided to make a week of it. I think I'm staying at the same hotel as Flopsy so I look forward to seeing everyone over there.
