I think Newcastle are trying to play to the gallery with their summer business.  They know they are highly unpopular with other supporters especially considering their owner's less than scrupulous history.  Had they been owned by anyone other than some oil rich Arabs they would have splashed the cash on more glamorous names

Think it's more to do with Financial Fair Play to be fair, they're on a limited budget and can't afford the outlay on lots of big names

Are the owners paying enough attention to know we are currently chasing promotion?

I think the £10m bonus for the team if they go up, probably tells you they are.

Honestly why do people think it's that easy to get players to sign a new contract - we're an unfashionable club in an unfashionable area punching above our weight in a precarious financial position who can't afford to offer top wages to most of our players and are trying to run things on a shoestring.

Funny how that £7m Mowbray “wasted” on Brereton seems to have been conveniently forgotten. Now it’s tie him to a long term deal , he’s worth more than AA.
Just maybe he was bought as a 20 year old kid with potential, and that potential is starting to be realised.

He's scored one goal on the bigger stage. I think it might just be a touch premature to say, "his potential is starting to be realised" and we need to tie him down NOW to be honest.

Unfortunately you are comparing apples with pears. They have a world class Manager and top quality players. We have a journeyman Manager and bang average players. 😤😤😤

I disagree with the last part, on the whole we very much have above average players and with the right manager could've actually done something this season. Now any quality in that squad appears to be about to evaporate, and the journeyman manager appears, for once, to be going nowhere.

I would say our centreback options aren't that bad. Tomori is playing regularly for Milan. Gomez might be back.  Stones is superb.  Konsa is doing well at villa.

Tomori definitely at the moment. I can't help thinking Gomez, Stones and, to a lesser degree, Konsa look better because of the players around them.

Shame really as a couple of decent centrebacks and we could go into the tournament quite confident, but you'd have to say it's going to be a bit unpredictable.

I don't know why Wan-Bissaka has never been tried as a right centre back. It's so infuriating that we have a player who's so defensively sound (when England are lacking good defensive players and who clearly isn't an attacking full back), and we might lose him to the DR Congo team because he won't even get in the squad with the embarassment of talent we have at right back already.

Seems obvious, but that's not the way football works (as we well know).
