Think our overall business has been good so far, although we are still abit off from being ready for the season ahead in my eyes. Contract extensions to key men and the 2 incomings so far have been really positive . Also nice to see that there hasn't been any serious links/rumours of our players leaving.

I imagine our main focus will be on attacking incomings now, think chapman would be great as an impact sub out wide or even upfront with his pace and directness. However the main man I want to see us go after is Maddison, would be a real coup, he's young, quick and most importantly has got a great end product. Would be a dack esq signing imo.

I agree with Maddison as I have been pushing his case on here. However, somebody on here had said that he was rumoured to have a bad attitude. But he does score goals for a winger (Peterborough 177 apps/42 goals) and lots of assists.

I found this on google: -

Available for £2.5m, Rangers must consider Marcus Maddison ... score plenty of goals in the Scottish Premiership throughout 2017-18, they still ... every two games with a whopping 23assists in his 53 league and cup outings.

Quick thought. Might it not be worth taking a look at Lewis Grabban? Finding it hard to convert for Bournemouth at the moment but has had success whilst out on loan at the Championship scoring 20 in 34 for Sunderland and Villa respectively. Bournemouth might be willing to cover wages. Again we could agree a fee with them to make the deal longterm if we see success next summer?

Good shout, but there are a lot of clubs after him who have more resources.

We don't actually know what the financial situation is. It is an assumption we don't have enough money to pursue Championship experienced players. That's why I said IF Armstrong is going to cost Championship level money, e.g. a substantial fee and wages, then I might prefer we looked elsewhere.

He's not going to make a do at Newcastle in the Premier League, certainly not with Benitez as manager.

I accept we have to take risks but don't think that has anything to do with 'financial limitations'. Every club has to take risks on bringing in players and spending money on them.

I've said already that I'd like him here permanently but if he's going to cost £1 million and £10k a week I might exercise caution with it.

Mowbray said that he didn't want to disrupt our pay structure so that he didn't upset our existing players. I think a championship player with a good goal scoring record would cost a fortune and demand a large salary. If we could get Armstrong for £1M and on £10K pw I think that would be a very good deal as I am sure that Graham and Mulgrew and probably Dack will be on at least that or even more and so would be within our pay structure.

I'd like Armstrong but there's no evidence at this stage he can hack it in the Championship. If he's going to cost a Championship sized fee then it might be worth looking at alternatives who have shown they can do it.

But they would be out of our price range. At least with Armstrong he is young, has pace, two good feet, we know what he is capable of and his best position, but mostly with Mowbray's help he can hopefully improve. The fact that he has not been a roaring success in the championship with either Barnsley or Bolton should actually work in our favour as it should surely limit what NUFC could ask for him. A new loan with us where he is a success would put him out of our reach financially. Because of our financial limitations we have to take risks and signing him permanently should be one of them imo.

Decent shout Chris Martin, solid enough striker very experienced at CHampionship level - thought he was on the verge of signing for QPR though.

I am not sure if he has been snapped up, but he is only 29, he did well with Fulham and Derby don't seem to want him for some reason.

Be wary Maddison like Adelukan has questions over his attitude and billy big balls persona.

If true, then I am not keen as team spirit is going to be the key again this season and we don’t want any bad apples. Did I hear rumours that Galdwin was a bit up himself thinking he was better than Dack?

Sheff Utd have just sold a young winger called Brooks to Bournemouth for £12m. A Blades fan asked on twitter if Maddison was coming to replace him. Posh chairman replied no but that 2 clubs were close to agreeing terms with Maddison. Apparently he has a £2.5m release clause.

The Peterborough chairman promised him if he re-signed in 2017 (?) then he would allow him to leave if they didn’t get promoted thereby protecting their investment, hence the high fee quoted. Maybe £1M plus addons may swing it later in the window if we could afford it AND we one of the 2 interested.

  8. A player I would like Rovers to sign is Marcus Maddison from Peterborough. His stats and particularly his assists are amazingly good. He made most of Jack Marroitt’s goals last year.  He is a player that Mowbray has said is a quality player and is at the right age etc. The Peterborough chairman also promised him he could leave if they got an acceptable offer. He could be one where there has been an offer made but which is way too low. However, the longer the window goes on the more a compromise might be made. This is pure wishful thinking on my part btw. I just hope he wasn’t the player rumoured to have been kicked into touch because of wearing ripped jeans etc.

  9. It is early days yet and players are still on holiday. I think the constant re-writing from the same interview with Mowbray is being interpreted differently. He speaks of 4-5 young quality players and a little experience of an older player.  This sounds exciting to me. I’d rather have quality than quantity any day of the week. The players being linked, if true, fit the type he is after. There will be many players linked as he has to have options because it is hard to get your first choice as other clubs will also be after them. I am frustrated but by the time the season starts I am sure that we will be happy. My gut feel is we do have money to spend on the right players. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being a pot as much as £5M.
