People will no doubt shout at me for labelling this as a "must win" game tonight but we need to start getting into the habit of winning our home games and I also think we need to be looking at a minimum of four points from the next 2 home games. Brentford are flying at the moment and that will be an exceptionally tough test. This looks by far the more likely proposition.

Six points and eleven points from five games would of course be dreamland.

I know what you’re saying Rev, but 5 points from 9, mid table after 3 games, with 129 points left to play for. It’s not how I’d define a “must win” game.

We were a different club then. If Shearer had have flopped here we would have sold him back to Southampton at a loss and Jack would have got the cheque book out for another top striker. The current team needs strengthening in several positions and we're planning to blow most if not all of our transfer budget on a young lad who doesn't really play in any of the positions that need strengthening. I watched the video and I'm thinking he isn't a Graham replacement and if this lad comes here where does Armstrong play ?

Where does Armstrong play? Nice problem to have I’d say. Across the front three / either side of Dack / up front.

As for the transfer budget you know as much as I do about it.

Anyroad, excuse me, I’m off to the delightful Admiral of the Humber.

Those of us with long memories can recall managers betting the ranch on other young upcoming stars.  Jimmy Kerr and Steve Agnew anybody ?

Did they play 20 games for us between them ?

On a more positive note, Shearer, Sutton, Rhodes.

It’s been said before but what on earth would BRFCS been like when Rovers bought Shearer and sold Speedie! ?? the Samaritans would have been ringing themselves! “£3.3m on one player? Games gone” “His scoring record is rubbish!” “If he was any good he’d already be at a big club” “Is he Chinese?” One bloke will have been so irate he’d taken his dogs for a walk. Perhaps a strongly worded letter to the Telegraph, Jack Straw, Jack Walker? Direct debit stopped on the season ticket and to hell with the consequences.

Never heard of the lad. Fingers crossed.

With all due respect to those concerned  we heard all this sort of talk during the permanent window. We need players in in certain positions, it isn't curing cancer or  pioneering time travel it's signing two or three football players in positions we need.

We don't need to hear ad infinitum once again how difficult it is to bring players in, we just need to read that the players we need have signed on the dotted line.

Rev - probably your best bet is to ring the Telegraph and tell them to cease production until we've signed someone.

Do you get your information from the club? I'm not expecting you to say where. It's just that most could work out Rovers have bids in and are waiting on answers.

Yer man told us that Armstrong was signing on the Thursday before it was announced on the Monday. He couldn't have been more certain. He must know someone at the club. Leave it at that I say - doubt he'll be able to elaborate.

Very strange timing. If GB was that disenchanted/worn out by it all that he felt he had to leave you'd expect him to do it at least a month before the season started rather than overseeing the first game then leaving.

Rev, you’ve absolutely no idea of the circumstances (and neither have I) but perhaps he was promised the money back for paying for the training by a certain date and it wasn’t forthcoming. Plausible enough?

June: JAL wants us to sign Gallagher

Early August: JAL thinks Gallagher is wank

What did he do in that two months to go from hero to zero?

Think this just proves that you are a WUM and not a very good one at that.

Forget the Chaddometer, we need the JAL-o-meter.

It was actually 14 months. Where Tom pulled that one from I’ve no idea!

As for JAL’s opinion on Gallagher, once he’s told you who his agent is then it completely dilutes any comments he makes about the players ability.

On formations. Looks very much like we’re going 4-2-3-1. All this talk of wingers, it’s very hard to accommodate Dack in a traditional 4-4-2 system. This allows us to be a bit more fluid / flexible. The two wide men in the three can push up when attacking, almost a 4-3-3. Not wingers as such but wide attackers playing off the front man. Which is why we need another Danny Graham type I’d have thought. All imo of course and for the record I’d always play 4-4-2 (and to hell with fashion!) but when you’ve a player like Dack you’ve got to get the best out of him.

    Excellent.

I know we are in the middle of a cold war on this site...

    ???

Brilliant Len! They’ll make a film about it... adopt American voice over...

”A BRFCS Production, based loosely on the mainly non events of the traumatic / brilliantly planned summer transfer window 2018/19 of Blackburn Rovers Soccer Club...

A Messageboard divided... Families in turmoil...

    ......THE COLD WAR.....

Optimists and Pessimists collide with some of the worst examples of people taking themselves far too seriously since the last horrific / not too bad transfer window.

Only this time, it’s occasionally perceived as slightly personal...

    Certificate 18. Straight to video.”
