I regard this game as one of the best ever atmospheres at an away ground in my 40 years watching Rovers. It was the night United regained the title as we got beaten 2-1. However, the fairy tale was only in its early stages and in excess of 5,000 travelled down to create a party atmosphere. Large flags were draped everywhere and the noise from Rovers fans was incessant. I remember Andy Gray commenting on the din when I watched it on Sky a few days later. I've still got it on tape somewhere. Can't remember anything about the game but our fans that night were magical.

I was at Southport on Tuesday night - Stanley were dreadful - good to see yesterday's results. I was with an ex Rover and a Bolton fan. In front of us, I was later told, were three ex Rovers season ticket holders from Darwen who now follow Stanley. I know of two other Darweners who used to watch Rovers but now follow non league teams, Stanley included. Stanley going up will affect Rovers, although in terms of numbers I think it will be relatively small.

There is a piece in today's Dagbladet about scholes being at Ewood last week. Nothing new, it's just a copy from the Citizen report of a few days ago. Morten quoted as being unable to confirm if United are interested or not. Also that he is a Rovers player and wants to win things with Rovers.

It was mayhem on the Embankment - my dad drove us over t'hill to the game, his first for many a year, only to witness what could only be described as a battle on the terraces. The efforts of the police at Bolton were always abysmal - one of the worst places in the country to go to as an away fan. I remember reading the Daily Express the following day and seeing a photo of a train that had stopped behind the Embankment with various folk on it watching for free.

I went to watch Stanley away twice last year, despite being a Darrener. Enjoyed both games. My mate used to watch Rovers regularly in the 70s but then didn't watch footy at all other than a few non league games at Darwen & Stanley. At one of the above mentioned away games, there were me and my mate sat next to another ex Rovers fan and his mate who also turned out to be an ex Rovers supporter. So four of us in a line and three of us were ex Rovers fans. Those who say we won't lose fans to Stanley are wrong, even though the numbers may be relatively small.

Was talking to a mate last night who watched the game in the Royal Oak (never remember whether that's Lammack or Pleckgate) and he said the pub was packed.

Rodney Marsh was one of the first in this country to advocate cheating. He admitted it himself on tv. There was a Man City v Everton game on Granada and he fell theatrically to the ground to earn a penalty without being touched. Funny how opinions change. A few years ago I (along with three or four others) and on this Board, attempted to make a stand against cheating but was shot down. At that time around 80% or more had a "shrug your shoulders" attitude but now it seems to have gone full circle.

True, but the problem at Ewood is the general make up of the Rovers fan or cross section of our support as compared to that of a big city club. At places like Birmingham, Everton and say West Ham there is a much higher proportion of males in the 18-45 age group than at Rovers. This is seen even more when these teams visit Ewood. The Man Utd support here seems to be made up solely of vociferous males and is one reason why they are just about the loudest away fans in town. There are males in the 18-45 age group who are Rovers fans but equally there are a lot of old folk, women and kids ( who generally but not always seem to be quieter). More so than at the big city clubs. If it were a case of 500 lads from Blackburn singing against 500 lads from Everton I don't think there would be any difference at all.

There was a piece on Castleford today on their return to Super League, showing a club shop in the town centre which looked to be stuffed to the brim with all things gold and black. No half measures in Cas then.

Got the Old Trafford league win off e-bay and I've just bought the Ewood win off there also. Three pounds summat each including postage. If the missing four or five thousand can't be tempted back after tonight's game, then they need treatment. Having said that, there were supposed to be 6,000 empty seats, that's equivalent to the whole of the Darwen End Lower being empty plus a further one thousand. There's no way there were that many not taken....hmmmmmmm, dodgy.

My mate goes to all Stanley home games and, a few months ago, they were having discussions as to how they could improve their attendances. Even though they were in the top 8 or so (now top by some way) their gates were no bigger than towards the end of the season when they won the Unibond. My mate was suggesting some sort of "interchange" with Rovers or Burnley - I'll see if I can find out if anything came of it.
