Tommy Hutch - he was a real handful . Blackpool got him from the Scottish lower leagues for peanuts.  I remember Eamon Rogers playing against him as an emergency right back and more than holding his own. That tells you what a versatile player Eamon was.

Don't know if you recall Tyrone but around the same time 1968/1969 Tommy Hutchinson gave Keith Newton the runaround. I went to both matches, one of which was the infamous "ammonia" incident.

The programme on the left was 7th October 1968, the one on the right 18th August 1969.

Always felt that with the 1969 team we were just a couple of players short of mounting a promotion challenge.

  3. The thing is with some of the teams recently relegated from the Premier League is that some of their players think they are far too good for the Championship.

This was apparent when watching Reading v Bournemouth on Friday night. As has been stated Reading were up for it from the off. Players like King, Brooks, Lerma, Solanke etc were just going through the motions thinking to themselves- I’m much too good to be playing at this level.

  4. Stop bigging the mighty Luton Town and their manager up. Pick the players in their right positions. Instruct the players to get out onto the pitch, get in their faces, stop fanning about at the back with tippy tappy passing, run harder than the opposition, get the ball forward quicker and into the channels and get some efforts on target.

Was it Shankly who said football is a simple game?

I agree every player in the Championship need to be physically competitive and he doesn't have it. Either he bulks up like Breo did last season or he's going to need to look down the leagues for his career.

For those oldies on here he reminds me of David Helliwell (Spider). He was technically good but too lightweight. Had a decent career at Workington who in those days were in Division 4 (League 2)

For the rest of the season it’s merely an exercise in who Mowbray can blame. Injuries, the players, the pitch, the officials, the opposition's budget, the opposition’s tactics, no fans, fan expectations, covid. Must be more.

Not enough space in the Analyst room for all the players to review Plan A and Plan B.

Oh hang on - is there a Plan B other than throwing loads of subs on to play where they think they should?

The Sam Hart extension and some of the others understably aggravated a lot of people, especially at a time when the club was pleading poverty and not offering refunds. It seems hyperbole to suggest that mentioning this is directly stating that Mowbray was to blame for the postponement.

I personally dont rate Buckley, as much as I appreciated his goal on Saturday. I understand that he is young but I feel his weaknesses go beyond his obvious physical limitations and that he takes too long on the ball and doesnt appreciate the pictures around him. Praising or indeed criticising a player and the lack of patience you perceive the latter to be is not really relevant, this is a forum to share opinions on players. I dont rate Buckley, I wouldnt have him in the squad and I would loan him out. I wouldnt put money on him making a real impact for us but of course I dont rule it out. But that doesnt mean that people dont support him if he wears a Rovers shirt.

I dont share your relaxed attitude towards our repeated habit of conceding first and especially the set pieces which is compounded by the fact that Mowbray has delegated this crucial task and hasnt seen fit to take control again. Both are signs backing up an inability to improve on last seasons results and displaying poor form, if anything these areas seem to be showing decline, not improvement.

Interesting that when Big Sam came in to replace Ince who had Nigel Winterburn as his defensive coach, when Sam was asked if he was retaining Winterburn, he said “No I won’t because from now on I will be the defensive coach”.

That is an example of taking responsibility.
