Looking ahead to next year, looks like there will be the least amount of Parachute Payments flying around since I can remember.

Only Norwich and Watford will have them who are in the league currently, and they'll be on their final year too due to 1 year relegation. So 5 teams overall with the relegated 3. If there's a few basket case clubs in that then we'll probably never see a better time to compete.

So if the 3 relegated clubs (lets say Saints, Everton, Forest) all got instant promotion back we'd be down to no legacy parachute payments and just the relegated 3 teams in 2024/25 as it'll be dried up at Norwich/Watford (as well as WBA this year).

In our last year of payments, 10 different clubs were receiving them, a lot more competition. Even going back just 3 years there were 8 different clubs receiving them.

Originally it was smaller amounts spread over 4 years. I'd make it just a one off payment now

  2. Michael Carrick made a very valid point in his post match interview.

Premier League referees rely on Var to correct their mistakes so they don't have to worry about decisions. When these same referees come down to the championship they make the same bad decisions but there is no VAR to help them out.

I don't like VAR and accept refs make bad calls sometimes but refs who rely on VAR shouldn't be reffing games without VAR.

We could well have just witnessed the birth of a star, Adam Wharton was on a different planet to anyone else on the pitch, and Burnley were nowhere near him.

Tomasson says the team needs to play a certain way, to showcase their talents and prove they're capable of stepping up to the next level. I'm 100 % with him after that performance, anyone wanting to sign Wharton will have to cough up a mighty sum.

It took a worldie to beat us tonight, but Burnley know they've been outplayed. We all know where we're short, but that performance has to bode well for the future.

We witnessed it in August away at Blackpool shame the manager didn't

Did we though? If we did, the chances were slim and unlikely so not even to be called ‘half chances’ (granted a chunk of theirs has probably come from that open goal at the end).

A lot of talk about ‘taking our chances‘ again as I’ve seen week after week. I keep reverting back to the absolute diddly squat we actually created (another match with sub 1.00 xG).
Happens when your ‘creative’ players are Diaz/Dolan/Hedges

Prior to their goal their xG was 0.02

Nope, we're in real trouble now. Spurs and West Ham playing each other, plus one more game each. I'd say we need Spurs to lose that one, and lose to Manure (only a place above us) who in their last 5 have drawn 1 and lost 4. West Ham's extra game is bottom placed Leicester. Even if Spurs draw both games, they'll finish above us on GD if we lose to Palace. Our only saving grace might be Palace's form seems to have wobbled a bit and they're our last game. They've drawn one and lost one 5-0 in their last two, and we would probably have beaten them recently but Eastham got sent off. However they're also third in the league so are clearly one of the better sides. It's away.

    Think we're going down, personally.

and we play our last fixture before everyone else so lose and they will all know what they need with 2 games each to go each

Man City youngsters were a joy to watch today and sometimes you just have to say the opponents were too good for you. There was no lack of effort from Rovers but City's passing, movement and touch was excellent - it was so easy on the eye. In fairness Sam Burns came on in the second half and was probably Rovers best player as he could have had a goal or two with his running in behind. Ayala looked a way off fitness yet and I'll be surprised if he features in the first team this season. Interestingly there was no Ash Phillips or Harry Leonard.

    or Jake Garrett
