So.....it's free, but you need to get other people to sponsor you to the tune of £300 to have a (presumably) safe swim with some sharks?

This is so weird, can you explain a bit more?

As you can imagine, the places to dive aren't free to us.

We have to buy them from Blue Planet.

As we buy them in a group it is cheaper than buying individual places.

However it's still not that cheap, hence why we need to set the target at £300 in order to cover the cost of the places while making it a worthwhile event for the charity to hold.

If you were to go to Blue Planet and buy your own place it will cost over £200.

In terms of the safety, while the Sharks are fed every week, you can't predict what they will do.

They normally only feed about once or twice a month in the wild so they have no real want to attack anything else to get more food, but that's not guaranteed.

There are also sting rays and other fish in the tank too.

You are in the tank with 2 other instructors who will keep an eye on where the sharks are all over the tank to keep you as safe as possible, but ultimately you are in a tank with something over 10ft long with over 250 teeth.

Talk about the hard sell...

Hi all,

No sooner do I give the other a bump up the page, than one of my divers has to drop out of the shark dive giving us a spare slot!

So, with that in mind, are there any of you out there who would like to take part in a Shark Dive on Saturday 17th March?

To sign up, please visit our events website – http://www.kidscanevents.org.uk/shark-dive-events/shark-dives

Or for more information, reply to this thread, send me a message or e-mail me – chris@kidscan.org.uk

Hi Everyone,

Rather than making a new thread, I thought I would locate the old one!

Hopefully you're all still keen to take part in a charity shark dive.
Just in case you've forgotten, it's in aid of KidsCan, the children's cancer research charity.

We've just booked in a new dive date - Saturday 7th December!

Believe it nor not, we're still offering this amazing challenge for FREE!
There is a sponsorship target, but we'll help you raise it however we can.

If you would like to sign up, please visit this link - http://tinyurl.com/KCSharkDives

And as ever, if you have any questions, please ask away now!
Best wishes,

KidsCan

Can I pay for Steve Kean, Jerome Anderson and Balaji to take part??

You could, but it would set you back quite a bit. It's better if there's a multiple of two.

While your offer is kind, I'm not sure many on here would sponsor them!

Hi everyone!

We've only got 3 places left for the Shark Dive on the 7th December!
Still time to sign up! Please click here - http://tinyurl.com/KidsCanSharkDives

If the thought of sharks doesn't appeal, why not take part in our Zip Slide from the Imperial War Museum North, Salford Quays on 13th October?
From 30metres up, you'll zip over 250metres across the Manchester Ship Canal and finish in front of the Lowry Theatre!
Please sign up via this link! http://tinyurl.com/KidsCan-ZipSlide

If you're not a fan of sharks, or heights, I'm sure we can find something for you!
Thanks again,

KidsCan

If you were hoping to get a place in the Zip Slide I'm afraid they've all gone!

However, we do still have places available for the Shark Dive on 7th December!
If you would like more information on how to get involved, please e-mail chris@kidscan.org.uk

Many thanks,

The Zip Slide was a great success!
If any of you would like to see the photos, there on KidsCan's Facebook.
Hopefully that will inspire you to take part next time!

There's still a couple of spaces left on the Shark Dive on 7th December if any of you would like to take part?
Hopefully we can get some of you doing something for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month which happens to be December!
