  1. Well, I hope the fourth day is free for the punters. Can't see it lasting too long tomorrow.
  2. It's looking very good for us now.
  3. Vista has now been abliterated from my system. I did get sound, wireless network and various other drivers working however I never did get the Aero features back. I think I finally killed everything when I tried to get drivers for the wired network to work. Big mistake. All in all, I think this O/S will be pretty good when it's released. Similar enough to XP to not put people off (and you can still choose "classic" theme to make it look like NT/Win2K) but with enough tweaks and enhancements to make it interesting. I'll wait for a release candidate and hopefully more drivers before giving it another go.
  4. hmmm, I seem to have broken the Aero effects!
  5. I'm stunned. I'm actually writing this from Vista. Strangely it has found and set up my wireless LAN seamlessly which is more than I can say for the built in ethernet! The install took an absolute age. A ridiculous amount of time but I was impressed by the fact all you have to do now is to enter the product key, point it to a hard drive and give the computer a name. No more options needed at all. Granted it has defaulted me to US settings. One thing about the install though, when are Microsoft going to ship the Silicon Image RAID drivers as deafult? It really pee's me off that I have to dig the floppy disk out every time I want to install Windows. mode_m is right in that it looks a lot like WinXP but that's not really suprising as MS don't want a steep learning curve between O/S's. Plus we've got to remember that this is beta 1 so there will be more betas even before we get to release candidates where I would expect a lot more changes. IE7 seems quite quick and tabbed browsing appears the same as in Firefox. It works is really all I can say about it. Not too keen on what they've done with the shadowing effects on windows and they have gone for fancy animated screens opening. That's usually the fiest thing I turn off. Having said that, even with the animation, the components and programs do load very quickly. Need to keep digging to see if there's anything else worth keeping this for now!
  6. I still know which city I'd feel safer commuting in and out of at the moment. Not sure what safety in numbers has to do with anything. If you're next to a bomb, you're dead simple as.
  7. Everything I've read about IE7 says that it's a step in the right direction but is nothing special over IE6 apart from tabs. I think I'll wait until the final release is out for that one. Also, IE7 is built into the Vista Beta so you could just wait for that to give it a try. That is assuming you can get the network drivers to work in it!
  8. You're not kidding on the bloat ware. Just checked on MSDN and it's a 2.2GB download!!!!! Still might give it a go.
  9. Looks like the police are taking a no nonsense approach as it's just been reported that they've shot a man dead at Stockwell tube in South London. Eye Witness
  10. More like a group of sick people. Looks to me like they didn't intend on hurting anyone just letting people know that these things are going to happen at any time any place and no sniffer dogs or hightened alert statuses can stop it.
  11. So it's not just me getting the AOL home page with that link.
  12. They showed some footage of that pub on newsnight, I think it was last night. Basically about 50 or so people had gathered at the pub were drinking (obviously) and becomming a nuisance. It ended up with a couple of arrests and police in riot gear getting bottles and glasses thrown at them. Not sure if anything else happened after that though.
  13. Probably the car which they think was used by the bombers. The current BBC news page mentions that in one line. Seems strange stopping all trains for that though.
  14. But this is the part that I don't understand. You want as many people as possible to be involved and from all sites/supporters clubs, yet you keep the BRISA discussion threads hidden. Why not unhide them, perhaps make them read-only and then people can see what discussions are taking place (to feel in the loop) then if they chose to join in, then contact admin to get write access to the area.
  15. But that's not the area of this site that you get access to has hinted at by Stu Wilky
  16. Perhaps a stupid question, but if you want as many people to be involved as possible, why not make the ISA section available to everyone by default? That way we can see if we like what the ISA is about and get all the information we need. Surely all BRISA information should be available to everyone?
  17. Interesting points about the position on the bus. If my journeys on London Buses are anything to go by, the person (or left package) was probably on the bus for a while. As the Bus was at the height of peak and evenmore full due to tube closures, you would not have been able to get upstairs and infact you are not allow to stand upstairs. Therefore I am presuming that whoever or whatever was there, would have got on when there was still space to A) get upstairs and get a seat upstairs. Police have now announced 50 confirmed deaths. Sad, sad day.
  18. No FFS, he wasn't sauntering down the road looking like Osama Bin Laden, in fact who even said he did. He was going about his business entering his usual place of work. Stop sensationalising and twisting things.
  19. Who said anything about pointing the guns and raising arms? You are twisting the facts to try and sustain your incorrect assumptions. And Manchester Blue was simply trying to remind you yet again to stop making pointless and personal attacks during discussions.
  20. No, that's called OTT. I could have understood 1 maybe 2 police officers taking someone to the side to check on ID, security passes (we're all security cleared in this building) however 4 officers with firearms is taking the ###### and intimidating. Also, so you think they stopped all Muslim people in London yesterday, probably not. You think the clothes had something to do with it? If I chose to wear that type of clothing, do you think I would get stopped as "It's great for hiding bombs", probably not.
  21. But as far as I can make out, their only reasoning was that the group are under surveilance and they didn't know where a few of them were yesterday. Pretty circumstantial at the moment.
  22. This is an interesting point and compounded (rather worryingly) by something I saw yesterday lunchtime. I work in the Prison Service Headquarters in Westminster, just across the road from the MI5 building so security is always quite tight around us. This didn't stop me being appauled by what I saw coming back into my building. We have a Muslim guy who works for us who wears full religous dress. He had been stopped by the entrance by a police car and 4, yes 4 fully armed police officers. I'm not too sure whether it was paranoia or desparation that made them pull him over but why harrass just anyone you see? I hope this trend doesn't continue or escalate.
