I see them as playing in the middle and able to run wide for attacks. I'd like to see:

    ---------------------Raya

    Nyambe  Lenihan  Mulgrew  Bell

    -------Bennett  Reed  Rothwell

    ---------------------Dack

    ----------Graham  Armstrong

I know it's never been played, but those 3 in the middle are full of workrare and running, equally capable of defending if we're under the cosh, or filling in for the full backs as they bomb on, or (particularly Bennett and Rothwell) getting wide and forward in support of the attack.

It may be my backside talking, but I like that side.

Mike,  I like the look of that side also.  I think at Ewood it would be great but away, when we have to dig in defensively then unfortunately I believe we would get absolutely trashed.  We need something or someone, may be more than one, who is prepared or has the ability to defend.  In the line up you propose, only Bennett from midfield would be capable.

It was 1953 when they finished second to Arsenal on goal average. In 1958, when Rovers won promotion to the first division, they were second by a distance to Wolves. They went down in 1961 when Finney retired and have never been back since.

They lost in the cup final in 1964.  If we had not had an away day at Oxford, we would and should have won it that year.  We were a much better team than West Ham who won it.

    What like AAK?

Dack needs to understand footballers do live in reality. If you do the crime, do the time. Silly not to attend your community service. Big fine coming his way by the club I hope and some discipline handed down by Conway Mulgrew etc.

If all this is true and there is no reason to think it isn't, then I would ask why Rovers didn't snatch West Brom's hand off when they offered15 million?

This site is utterly ridiculous, you think we'd not won all season and bottom of the league!

Everyone just chill, all teams have off days. remember we could have been 3-2 up at half time....

They did have a bad day but defending in second half was woeful which was concerning.  Yes we where chasing the game but when we went 3 at the back, it just doesn't or didn't look right against this Bristol team.

Good they’ll export more into the new markets.

If the debt is in rupees via SBOI surely a drop too.

Thanks, I understand what you are saying.  My initial worry is that their subsidiary, Venkys London Ltd. the debt will be in Stirling in which case the debt when converted to Rupees will have increased significantly virtually overnight.  If debt is in Rupees then all well and good because it will have reduced overnight.

just a little worried as this is Venkys?

I'm not sure he's at that level yet. It would be a gamble for them but £10 million is nothing these days for Premier League teams. When you look at what the Dingles have been paying for average Championship players he's got to be worth more than that. Creative attacking game changers are rare in British Football.

Agree with that.  I don't think he is at that level and have doubts he ever will be.  Don't get me wrong, he certainly has vision and can pick a pass, his ball control is very good and defenders find it difficult to rob him of the ball but the one thing he has not got is that explosive pace over the first 5 yards and that cannot be coached into him.  At premiership level against quicker and better defenders, I have my doubts.  Hope I am proved wrong for his sake.

The thing with Wes Brown was that his legs had gone. Even if he was mentally there he could never have contributed. Rodwell has the fitness but does he have the mental aspects and attitude required???

Yes, agree.  However I do think Rodwell will benefit from our dressing rooms, all in it together, attitude.  Bennett will make him fit.  That guys contribution both on and off the pitch cannot be underestimated. IMO of course.  Under those circumstances, I think his attitude and mentality will be fine but is his fitness up to it?  As he has not played very much over the last few years.

We are going to find out and hope it is ok because potentially this signing could be incredible?

There might be a player in Rodwell but I would rather we didn't gamble that we can improve him. If he maintains his current decline we are just wasting money.

I think it would be worth a gamble.  Yes some injuries but looking at his career he got caught up in a big money move from Everton to City which didn't suit him.  I don't think it would have taken place if Everton didn't need the money at that time.  He was moved on to Sunderland which, let's be honest, is a basket case club and yes he lost his way and I am not condoning him going AWOL but can understand.

i think he deserves another chance and TM may have the right philosophy to bring the best out of him.

Interested to hear what Tyrone's mate has to say, when he wakes up?

Mulgrew really is key to how we play. If we get all of our good attacking players out, we will cause teams problems. Just lacked it in the final third this evening. Not sure Bell is as good as I hoped he would be. I expected him to take players on a bit more

Bell is still learning his trade.  He is still young and yes sometimes he looked poor but other times looked really good.

Cut the boy some slack.  He has pace to burn and he will improve.  Maybe I am a little bit older than you but I remember Tommy Hutchinson giving Kieth Newton an absolutely torrid time at Bloomfield Road but look how that turned out.

Both Bell and Nyambe will be ok.

Its fine to have other opinions don't think I said did I but Mowbray has explained way he plays the team and tactics that way.

Brereton the 1st choice and I would agree with that. Definaly a player I couldn't see targeting in the summer so its a surprise and welcome one at that.

Nuttall will go out on loan. With Graham, Brereton(if we sign), Armstrong and Samuel has our forward options. what do people think of that? good enough for the season or like to see another striker sign in January/this loan window?

Chaddy, I agree with what you say but if we sign Brereton at the sort of money being banded about then I would expect he will be first choice, if not then Venkys will certainly have something to say.  I also expect Nuttall to go on loan, as he has potential.  Samuel, unfortunately is not good enough.

That being the situation, I just don't understand the necessity to sign Brereton as Armstrong and Graham would be extremely upset being second and third choice behind a 19 year old.  TM may have a different view but to date he has played one up top and currently that must be Graham.

If you go onto the lancs telegraph website Mowbray's comments suggest Nixon was talking shite about there being a late influx of extra cash.

Mowbray said the budget has always been the same since his visit to India and confirmed the bids for Freeman and Brereton. Also says we agreed a 4 million fee for a player earlier in the window but lost out to another club as we couldn't match the wages offered

    Thank you Islander.

At least there is some money there, but Venkys???

Alan Nixon said that Money came available after about 2/3 weeks ago. He was surprise and abit sceptical. Now whether Mowbray and Waggott had talks with Venkys and they agree to increase the budget I don't know but I feel its a good possibility due to the cost of players market and crazy fees. (my view is in the Blue)

He said we got Armstrong for a good price and good deal for us.

On Brereton bid, He said Forest bought in an agent to sell him on Wednesday the day before deadline day. He was offer to Rovers and on deadline day we bid for him but when Brereton found out he was being sold he said no he wanted to stay. But he wouldn't be shocked if we went back in for him on loan to permanent deal before the deadline

On Freeman bid, Rovers bid for him and as did Forest did. But the reason the deal didn't happen was because McClaren threated to walk out if he was sold as he is their best player.

On Gallagher, Rovers did hold talks with Southampton about buying him but the fee they wanted was too high plus wages could be problem as he's on 24/25k a week. could be loan target. He said Gallagher should be asking for a loan move as he wont be playing but if he quite happy to stay there for the wages then its not a player you want to sign.

I did miss about 1 minute of the comment about Rovers. I will upload a link later

    Thank you Chaddy.

Did you listen to Alan Nixon on Radio Lancs tonight who explained why we had money towards the end of window to spend and why Brereton was available and Why it didn't happen and why Freeman didn't happen?

No Chaddy I didn't hear it, as it's difficult to pick up Radio Lancs in Somerset.

Please let us know what was said, just for those out of ear shot?

    Thanks

We have budget left over from January. I also know that Venkys are willing to back TM with money but they want to do it in a way that doesn't risk the club financially.

The model we need is a Huddersfield where you have a brilliant scouting system and trust in the research your recruitment team does.

It is just like any other business. Getting the most intelligent staff member isn't always right.

They need to fit into the team dynamic and not change up the dressing room.

I would be happy with our business if we had 2 strikers come in and maybe 2 others. That could be RB CB or wingers.

I think we will split our business. We know we can get Armstrong on loan as a last resort with a view to a permanent as he has 2 years left on his deal. Personally this is best option for us as 3m is fairly expensive for someone no proven in championship. (However Score 10 goals in championship and could be worth 10-15m these days)

The model we need is a Huddersfield where you have a brilliant scouting system and trust in the research your recruitment team does.

Essentially cannot argue with that.  However in my opinion the modal we need is the same one as when Venkys took over, that is before certain agents pulled the purse strings and look where it ended.  Financial fair play because they allowed themselves  to be shafted by said agent even bringing in the desperate manager because it suited their so called modal and they were so arrogant they couldn't see it.

Excuse the rant but as you say we are now back to scouting systems but Venkys owe this club big time.  Their mismanagement has cost both them and us but the responsibility lies with the owners, as they make all decisions.

    They need to sort it!

  15. 49 minutes ago, JHRover said:

I agree. I think his value will go up if we can get him for a couple of million and he starts to perform in the Championship.

Sadly our owners don't tend to go to that sort of outlay no matter what the likely/potential return on it. They haven't gone past the £1 million mark for 5 years and that was when we were getting parachute payments.

Our owners, sadly, have no vision.  That comes through in their attitude to their own businesses mainly producing and selling chicken.  When they took us over, they had the opportunity to really make inroads into that market in the UK using us as a vehicle, they could have kicked KFC into the long grass if done correctly.

However, they looked over the precipice and looked back again as they only saw the outlay and not the rewards.  This is often the result when the money/ company has been inherited.  Unfortunately we have been and appear to be expendable in this process.

What I can't understand is why they don't get rid of us even though it will cost because all they will get long term is aggro.  I presume it is in their psychology as in the main Indians, certainly those born into a certain caste, can be and are quite arrogant.

  16. My view, which I know isn't always popular.

Pre season is all about getting formations right and getting match fit.  Results are irrelevant.

As some have reminded us about our pre season in Championship year, it wasn't great with some of us wondering why have we spent 3 million on this guy Shearer as he was hauled off in pre season.

I believe Mowbray is savvy enough that he will see what we lack.  Playing the likes of Liverpool is better than playing Carlisle etc.. were we would have won, getting into a false sense of security like last year.

All of us need to be patient.
