How can you possibly know that?
Has JDT resigned or been sacked ? Has he been offered the Sweden job? Any illegal approaches involved ?
All those questions would need to be answered before we can know if your statement is true.
I think Nicko is source for the above - so someone, incorrectly or correctly - is saying that has been the blocker.
I guess the situation is JDT knows is he sits in role he could force Rovers to eventually have to pay up his contract (maybe a million quid for 18 months? Just a guess). JDT says "I'll be okay to walk if we make it £500k". Then Rovers say - well, that's fine, but Sweden FA need to pay that £500k not Rovers. And that is the negotiation.
I could be wrong but that is what it feels like.

What time is his presser due for today?
As current we haven't been told formally that he has left..
They haven't even formally said he's on gardening leave yet, and that DJ etc will take the game? I would have expected at least that by now.

Blimey, there's some dewy-eyed romantic view of the Tomasson era on here when the reality is he's left the club in the middle of a relegation fight after a calamitous sequence of results. Ambition and optimism and a good personality are fine qualities but a coach also has to know to organise a defence properly and set up a team not to give away soft goals. Tomasson was a busted flush IMO, canny Championship managers had him and Rovers worked out in the second half of last season
Yeah... the way I would describe him to a fan of another club asking about him becoming their manager - great fair weather manager. If he's on top you play some lovely football, exciting style, brings young players through, a "we will score more that you" philosophy. But.... when the worm turns doesnt adapt at all. Just keeps on the same way even if you are conceding 15+ chances and 3+ goals per game.
I really struggle to see how anyone decent will offer him a job as the inability to turn around results either in game (extremely rarely getting points from losing positions) or get out of this terrible run of form makes him appear a huge risk.

It appears they have their scapegoat then. Clean hands Broughton is off the hook despite his 'review of the processes' interview last February. It's happened again so what now? Another review of the processes?
Out of embarrassment he should resign immediately.
Even if it is buttoned up and IS carries the can how on earth does GB have any credibility now?
If he sticks around everyone is going to hate him.
Thought he did okay last season but christ hes had a stinker this year - Leo absolutely disastrous (must be one of the worst rovers signings of all time in terms of negative impact on results), no impact at all from Ennis or Telelovic, and now this.
Only positive for him has been Tronstad.
I wonder if Eustace or whoever the incoming manager is going to accept a DoF on that record...

Someone from the club needs to come out and walk through in painstaking detail how the non send happened.
It sounds like actually pressing send doesn't actually sit with Gregg - instead with CEO and Sylvester.... But Gregg said he wouldn't let it happen again. He should have been micro managing it through....
What a total mess.

They were actually 5th, two points above 11th having played an extra game than everyone else by virtue of a Friday night fixture.
That's such a championship stat!
I am still amazed that just missed out on the playoffs last season on goal difference despite winning 2 of our last 11 games. Absolutely bonkers league.

I feel a bit for Moran in so much as I don't think he’s been played in his natural position. He looks like a 10 to me, who will drop off a central striker to receive in pockets and the limited success he had was when we mere more fluid up front and he came central. More recently he’s been played out wide as a touchline hugger or Saturdays disaster. He’s got neither the pace nor trickery to play as a true wide man and doesn’t have the athleticism or ability to play off Tronstad as the deep lying playmaker.
Yeah - we've got ourselves into a bit of a hole where we have a few lightweight number 10 players (Sigurdsson, Moran, Ayeri, Markanday,) who can't play number 10 because Szmodics is killing it there - plus he's an absolute graafter which they are not - and they are unsuited to playing anywhere else.

If Broughton has gone then by process of elimination Waggott and the curtain twitcher will be in charge of making the next appointment to replace Tomasson. I have wracked my brains and don't believe either of them has ever been really involved in the process of appointing a new manager.
Heaven help us.
I don;t think anyone has said that he has gone? Unless I missed it in this rapidly extending thread.

I am intrigued if Waggott has lined up Eustace or if it's Gregg. Waggott has always struggled to find managers, so I wonder if GB has set it up.

Mark Hughes is a strange one, a brilliant manager for Rovers yet failed just about everywhere else, most recently at Bradford. Odd
Did well at Fulham too, but then binned them off in quite an arrogant way as he thought he would get a bigger job. But then didn't... ended up at QPR a year later.
To be fair to him he did well at Stoke too.
He's worked for a lot of mad owners (City, Fulham with Al Fayed, QPR) and I don't think he enjoyed it. So I would be very surprised if he had any interest in working for the Raos.

I like this bit from the Athletic "Their well-drilled, defensive style has them closer to the play-offs than the relegation zone and the early success stories are growing."

JDT leaves and McGuire is allowed to sign
OR - JDT leaves and McGuire denied by the EFL
Both are just plain mad when you think about it, so many questions regardless of the outcome
In the circumstances I wonder if McGuire is thinking about just getting back on a plane no matter the outcome. I guess Eustace may have reached out to him though to settle him down?

JDT leaves and McGuire is allowed to sign

Tbh if we get Eustace that makes a lot of sense as he got Birmingham out of a relegation battle last season. So despite not being that experienced he has the right experience.
-
If JDT is off does that automatically mean Rene goes or is he knocking about?
Part of me is quite curious how Damian Johnson does - hes had a great record with the under 23s.

He’ll get a job no problem.
Yeah think he will, but I will be surprised if its somewhere bigger than Rovers. Probably a sideways move. I can see another championship club going for him.
If hes left in the summer he would have been in a much better position and might have been able to get a club a step up to give him a go, but the last two months has torched that.

Waggott was uncomfortable with chants aimed at him on Saturday and I think he has used this stunt as a way to try and prevent anything negative aimed at him or the owners.
The cowardly snake.
Yeah I think probably Waggott just felt he had to do something and this was his best idea.
@J*B- did it sound like the players were genuinely impacted by the boos or that just theyd been called to this meeting and raised some general points since they were there?

I don't think it has anything to do with results. The writing was on the wall in Friday after the transfer window debacle and cancelling his press conference. I really hope he blows the lid on the whole sorry mess.
And outside of the transfer window I think by mid Jan with utterly horrendous results he was beginning to get on sticky ground anyway...
Given where we are and what we need for a relegation battle JDT leaving may not be the worst thing - provided we have someone competent lined up. I am however worried the options we have been looking at are not experienced Championship battlers who know you stay up by ultimately being defensively solid, but are instead young aficionados of the gegenpress and silky triangle football.

Can't see how we justify Sigurdsson starting? Dolan looked a lot brighter when he's been in. Sigurdsson has been a total passenger.
From my perspective Sigurdsson doesn't have the pace or workrate to play wide, plus he looks to always come inside very early anyway. If we play him he needs to be at number 10 for me. Think if we went 4231 we could maybe play Sigurdsson at number 10 and Szmodics wide left. But do we move our top scorer excelling and scoring goals out of number 10 wide to accomodate someone (Sigurdsson) who does not seem to even be putting the basic level of effort in.
I would probably go :
Pears
Hyam Fadz Wharton
JRC Tronstad Garrett Chrisene
Szmodics
Gallagher Dolan

Like, after the last one you'd be literally taking the papers there yourself in the car.
I assume it didn't go in because of further blocking/delaying by Venkys, that seems more likely than another paperwork error. I am looking forward to hearing what Gregg says in his post window interview...

Agreed - something the incoming football regulator should be allowed to do imo. No idea if that is in the scope of its proposed powers though.

I’d reign in the gung ho approach generally. Things like stopping overcommitting full backs and midfielders forward so that when the opposition breaks we are either 1v1 or outnumbered. Happened loads yesterday and we were fortunate their striker was worse than Jason Robert’s at taking chances.
I’d also focus on getting the ball forward quicker, we take that long the opposition have regrouped and we create nothing of note as a result. It also causes us an issue in defence as we get penned in and make mistakes leading to opposition chances. Scott Wharton and Dom Hyam are there to defend not play like Tugay in his prime so get the ball off them and up the pitch.
From a formation point of view it probably looks like having fullbacks instead of wingbacks and at least two defensive mids. Then build from there after we get some clean sheets and maybe some 1-0 wins.
Do I get the job Chaddy?
Absolutely agree with this... We need back to basics. I know JDT will say if we are not ultra offensive we wont score goals as we lack quality up top.... But whats the point in being ultra offensive if you ship goals at the rate we are???
We really should be going back to playing deep and hitting on the break. With the like of McFadz and Fleck they are not going to be running around anyway.
Id go 343 and just look to make it very difficult for the opposition by sitting deep and look to Gallagher, Szmodics, JRC and Dolan to make the most of counters. Don't over commit.
Pears
Hyam. McFadz. Wharton
JRC. Tronstad. Fleck. Chrisene
Dolan. Gallagher Szmodics.
If fleck isn't fit put Garrett in there. Main instruction is forget about overloads, nice one twos etc. Win the first ball and the second ball in the air or on the ground. And break quickly.

To be honest the key moment was the Indian courts freezing the assets in the summer. From that moment I think this time would come as the financial stability disappeared. Only thing that would have changed it is if we had managed to get into the Prem last year, and none of those events above would have got us there as I can't see how we would have won the playoffs.
It's also equally true that while the new manager appointment is important, the key defining thing for us until Venkys one day (please god) leave is whether we can solve this capital issue. Otherwise fast forward 6 months and the new managers and a lot of the players will be gone too.
