  1. How much is that doggie in the window - Patti Page/LIta Roza
  2. Rose Garden - Lynn Anderson/ songwriter: Joe South http://www.dailymail...o=feeds-newsxml Joe South passed away on September 5th as an additional note. He actually wrote that song "Hush" that is performed by Deep Purple which is a pretty good rocker and seems different than his kind of country styled songs (other songs he wrote or sang, Down in the Boondocks, Games people play). Sorry to break protocol here, Rest In Peace Joe South.
  3. The flowers of war, that movie is too sad and I guess true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Flowers_of_War
  4. I've read that book twice, it's a page turner, best book on at least doping in cycling. David Walsh. I just hope that Wiggins in 2012 and Cadel Evans in 2011 are clean and I tend to think they are. I liked Evans for quite awhile before he won it last year, so to me, he's always seemed decent.
  5. Here in the last days of the Olympics, one of my favourite all-time Olympians was Harry Hill from Bury, 1936 Bronze Medalist in Cycling of course at the Berlin Olympics. If you don't know his story, these two web sites give a little bit on him: http://www.the2012londonolympics.com/forum/athletes-sports-news-facts-figures/13633-britains-oldest-male-olympic-medallist-harry-hill-dies-aged-92-a.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Hill_%28cyclist%29 One of the old time cyclists I read about rode phenomenal distances every day training. May have been Hill.
  6. I wish sometimes that the Cycling Culture was the way it was before World War II and TV: http://www.classicli...laudbutler.html Weekend club rides, a social community, I think it use to be a big deal. they really depended on the bicycle a lot.
  7. I'm currently going through the book "Pedalare, Pedalare" by John Foot. John Foot also wrote a book on the history of Italian football, "Calcio, Winning at all costs" but Pedalare, a history of Italian cycling let me just say I think is an excellent book and one of the best books I have read on Cycling and I've read a number including your how to improve cycling-type books as well as nautrally bike maintenance and repair. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pedalare-John-Foot/dp/1408822199 Slaying the Badger is suppose to be a very good pro road racing book about Bernard Hinault. Haven't read that, read a book on Coppi, Fallen Angel, not my favourite cyclist but definitely very interesting. There is a new book on Bartali (said Barta-LEE) called "Road to Valour" I heard a radio show on. It's about Bartali saving people during World War II, honestly.
  8. I agree, Paul's posts are illuminating, I've taken the time to read quite a bit on cycling, Tour de France books but have never understood some of the deeper nuances of the sport. On another note, I know they have these MS charity rides. I never knew anyone with MS until about a week ago. Now the topic has me a bit interested if I ever find the extra time to go on one of those bike rides for fighting MS.
  9. Saw Hall Pass, pretty funny. Also, these movies are not the most recent, saw Deserter, Simon Murray in the French Foreign Legion, thought it was excellent. Bird Song dealing mostly with World War I was a cracking movie too. I really like Joyeux Noel, Merry Christmas, that movie about WWI as one of my all time favourites as well. I really like the Valkyrie movie with Cruise, otherwise, I'm not a big fan of his.
  10. Looks like Wiggins is a cinch to win it, doesn't it?
  11. Evans got two flat tyres, Wiggins one I think and they showed on camera, their switching the wheels around and of course, others suffered flats too. Really makes me wonder what happened? Of course, I've read in the past where tacks were tossed on the road....I'm sure we will find out, this is very strange.... Update: 28 tacks found on the road, announcer, Phil Sherwin I believe said there are "cycling hooligans" now, whatever, what a stupid thing to do. Now, they say they were "little nails". No matter, on one climb today, they said it was an 18% grade.... interesting to watch them navigate that... climbs are a problem, once in a while I go on a climb and that thing is a total workout.
  12. The Manx Missile has gotten a lot of coverage over the past few years, books... Who the Olympic Cyclists will be....and I guess the Tour will end the 20th...we will see. http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/gbcyclingteam/article/gbr20120613-British-Olympic-Association-announce-Team-GB-cycling-squad-for-London-2012-Olympic-Games-0
  13. Colin: Thanks, it wasn't much of a tumble. Carelessness. I have a road bike. Some mountain bikers take pride in the injuries they get, it was the old over the handlebars fall. Just lucky I was near home and no traffic was around. And as I said, since then, I'm always making sure everything is tied down tight on my rack. I have had about 3 incidences in my life, 3 semi-accidents, 2 of them were on ice and none-of-them really serious but it goes to show, I myself at least, needs to remember to be careful. I've met people who have had serious cycling accidents so I just need to remember to stay out of these kinds of situations.
