  1. Have you used the 'place marker' option on the map? That's what I did to get to all the viewpoints, it makes it a lot easier if you keep putting markers down at the entrance to valleys and ride towards them. You can just go through and do the remaining markers quickly in one go when you have the final city available. The overworld isn't as big as it seems. Kane & Lynch has got some kickings in reviews, but then so did Freedom Fighters and also Assassin's Creed, so I just don't trust them much. I'm a big fan of everything Io has done (I visited their studio a few years ago, when they were making FF) so maybe I'm a bit biased. Anyway... Bad points: You can get head shots but sometimes enemies don't die. Graphics aren't great. Animation looks crap after playing Assassin's Creed (that's also true of most games) Sometimes you don't stick to cover like you'd expect. It gets quite difficult. Good points: Your squad is excellent at killing enemies and reviving you when you get shot. Guns are nice and meaty, plus your squad will give you ammo when you run out. Lynch is a top quality psycho - you'll see him go nuts in the middle of the street, beating people to death and shooting the corpses. A couple of times, I finished scenes and just redid them straight away rather than moving on, because it was so much fun and I wanted to do it more stylishly. Excellent dialogue, although it's a bit dark and you wouldn't want kids to hear some of this stuff. Well worth it if you've got vouchers kicking around anyway. I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but it sounds interesting. Shame the co-op is only offline, though.
  2. I mean both versions are fine on their own but if you compare them, you'll notice the Xbox version runs a lot smoother in open areas and when there's a lot going on. It's not anything that would spoil anyone's enjoyment. Another tip that wasn't really obvious: In the pause menu you can access info about the targets, and some of the info has attachments such as maps showing the locations of guards, stealth routes to the target and so on. That wasn't explained anywhere, and I didn't notice it until I was more than halfway through my second go!
  3. The framerate complaints are only apparent when you compare the PS3 version to the Xbox one. It's a top game either way. Make sure you do all the viewpoints and side missions before you take on an assassination, as you can't go back and do them later. The more you do, the more health you get, and you'll really need it later. Also, saving the citizens means you have a city full of vigilantes, which makes it loads easier to escape. I'm playing Kane & Lynch now. I absolutely love this one as well, it's like Freedom Fighters with criminals and brilliant characters. Lynch keeps going nuts and executing hostages. Some pretty harsh scenes in that - the 18 certificate is certainly justified.
  4. Finally completed Assassin's Creed last night, thanks to my ability to run around in circles while recharging the health meter. I'm glad I persisted with the final stage. The ending is pretty cool.
  5. Killzone 2 has got decent reviews on Amazon: Five stars out of five. Sounds great!
  6. It's completely brilliant, I've been making sure to do every objective and explore everywhere this time. But that last part... I'll probably still be stuck on it by the time you get there, so I'll be tapping you up for hints.
  7. This site says there are just 26 English players. I think Platini has been misinformed or misquoted: Reuters blog link
  8. So, did anyone get Assassin's Creed? I'm stuck right at the end, my fighting skills have let me down and when I turn the console off in frustration it's at least half an hour to get back to that point.
  9. Well, if it's any consolation, I've rushed through it once and wouldn't mind doing it again when I get the retail version. There aren't many games I can say that about.
  10. There are loads of time-consuming things like collecting 100 Templar flags, kill 60 knights, rescue however many civilians, do 100 something else flags, 30 of some others and so on. Didn't bother much with those. Plus you have to climb towers to uncover the map in the cities, and there are usually 9 towers in each of three districts. Again, I didn't do all those, and I didn't get all the evidence either (six per kill) Spent a lot of time just exploring and admiring. I reckon you could do the quest in less than 10 hours if you were ruthless, but getting everything would have taken me double the time I spent. The flags and knights are often out in the countryside, which is vast. To be honest, I got a bit bored of collecting things, mainly because I caned it for so many hours I kept dreaming about the bloody thing last night. Damn, I really want to play it again now. Only a couple of weeks...
  11. Almost finished it now! That's at least 16 hours of my weekend. All the assassinations are exactly the same, in so far as you either jump in and surprise the victim with a stealth kill (got two of those) or you rush in and hack him up (all the rest). There's no way to plan anything different, like in Hitman, as the targets all stay in one place. While you're trying to be stealthy, you get (female) beggars jostling you. Dead annoying. I had two of them on me once, each saying the same phrase over and over, so I lured them into an alleyway and stabbed them. Harsh but fair. Then I turned into a bit of a serial killer and started terrorising everyone, which is probably not what the designers had in mind. Top game. A bit wooden at times but it looks brilliant, and leading people on a merry chase through the streets is pretty cool. The Xbox version has an achievement for making the pursuit last over 10 minutes, which I did by being extremely crap at hiding. I'll certainly buy it when it's out, to see the end of the story.
  12. Once you've done an assassination in each of the three enemy cities, you can skip between them all with a menu. I can't imagine why anyone would want to spend ages riding across the countryside and getting pursued all the time, unless there's some sort of mission there later, so it's goodbye to the horseback stuff and the epic landscapes after just three kills. Bad stuff: The locals keep saying exactly the same things in each city, it's just the accent that changes. Why did they bother recording the same boring bits of speech multiple times? It's very repetitive. The gameplay hasn't changed at all. There's a kind of plot twist that sort of explains why the locals are so robotic, which is a cheap way to hide some dodgy AI. It's not as good as Hitman or Prince of Persia. Good stuff: I can't stop playing it. Although I might run out of steam soon.
  13. I've got Assassin's Creed for the weekend Done my first assassination, which was pretty cool. You get evidence by either pickpocketing people, eavesdropping or beating it out of them. When you have enough evidence, you get approval for the kill or you can keep gathering more for the fun of it. A lot of repetition so far, and it's really easy to escape by just running away, but if you like Hitman (and I totally love it, it's one of my favourite games) then you'll probably be able to forgive AC its flaws. Travelling between cities takes ages, as you can't gallop past enemy soldiers without being recognised, so you have to go slow. I don't see the point it from a gameplay perspective. It's just atmosphere, I suppose. Definitely one of the nicest looking games around - when you first see Damascus gleaming in the sun after miles of countryside, it's breathtaking.
  14. I work at a publishing company, so there are games machines all over the place on the games magazines' floor. Definitely not a bad place The level they're playing has knights hiding in haystacks and stuff like that. Plus there are flashbacks to the future. It looks superb.
  15. Some people are playing Assassin's Creed at work right now and it looks great. It's like you're in the Matrix of the Middle Ages. Once you're in sync with the population, you can turn on 'eagle eyes' and see the code beneath everything (well, the people turn different colours depending on what they're up to). In the cutscenes, you get 'glitches' that let you press a button to see things from a different perspective. Very nice VR training level as well. That's a definite purchase for me, I think. It's Hitman meets Prince of Persia meets the Matrix. I'm sold.
  16. Le Saux said: "Ray Harford was distraught. He felt that it was a reflection on his management, that it showed he must be doing something badly wrong. Poor Ray – he didn’t deserve that." But he also said: "Ray Harford had replaced Kenny Dalglish as manager and there was an edge between the players. Groups started to form. Tim Sherwood, Batts, Chris Sutton and Mike Newell – the stronger characters – got away with things that would not have happened under Kenny and started to break the unity of the team." Quite contradictory. I remember feeling betrayed by Dalglish at the time. Did he ever explain why he bottled it like he did?
  17. Out of interest, where does this information come from?
  18. I can definitely recommend Space Giraffe on the 360, if you're into shooters. The visuals are absolutely insane but if you give it 30 minutes or so to get used to it, it's fantastic. And it's only 400 points, which is about three quid. Not much of a risk.
  19. Bioshock has got the highest review scores I can recall seeing - the lowest it scored anywhere so far is 94%. Get it on 360 for the achievements or PC for the better controls (achievements for me) Other interesting stuff coming up: MySims on Wii is really great, like a doll's house that you can build yourself. Your wife / girlfriend / kids will love it. Warhawk looks like it'll take the place of Resistance on PS3. Reminds me a bit of Shadowrun with vehicles and better graphics.
  20. Bioshock demo is available on Xbox Live now. Well worth downloading.
  21. I thought it was great. Only took a couple of days to finish, though, it's really short. If you like that one, Bioshock will blow you away. It's incredibly dark - you have to 'harvest' little girls for their life force.
  22. Bioshock - game of the year! I've watched a fair bit of it at work, despite not wanting to spoil the surprise, and it's spectacular. Best graphics I've ever seen, really creepy plot, loads of ways to approach fights, sub-quest where you take photos of the creatures you encounter (and kill). August 24th, I think. I'll be taking time off for that one.
  23. It's the SWOS 96/97 version - the last one released on the Amiga.
  24. I did it on realistic so I could get the achievement points, and there's no difference in the ending. I wasn't disappointed with it. I mean, would it have been a better game if they all had a massive party to celebrate beating the enemy, like in Star Wars? Anyway, it's really a multiplayer game. Come for the missions, stay for the online matches.
