  1. Kamy, I don't have a link to Abbeys post, as it come up looking like a "banned" word. I do assume that you meant "wasn't aimed", and if so, I apologise for being so forthright. As I've been the target of some "sledging" over this matter you might realise I've become a little sensitive, and was somewhat surprised with your comments. Anyway, apologies. ps but I do reserve the right to have big shots at those that have a go at me.
  2. Tell me what you really think, Kamy. Where have I taken "such pleasure when England does badly"? That I have been in Australia for the best part of my life, that my kids were born here, that an upcoming grand child is about to be born here (and that my daughter chose to have her child born here whilst living overseas). Don't you dare tell me that I haven't an affinity with this country. I've probably spent more of my life in Australia than you have in England. This is my home, just as (most probably) your parents made England their home. You should look closer to home, Kamy. Just check out the crowds when India or Pakistan play in England, see where a good size of the crowd lend their support.
  3. Two to go. The Aussies have played well, and England have only just got into gear. Pleased for Johnson and Lyon. Good to see Harris get through three tests without injury.
  4. Some excellent resistance from Prior and Stokes. Stokes looks the goods. The Aussies haven't worked him out yet.
  5. Yeah, that was a good one. Straight out of the Murdoch book of conspiracies.
  6. There's a strong rumour that Channel 9 have an audio tape of the sledging going on. It's apparently from both sides. It won't be long before it gets leaked.
  7. That's a must, the ABC commentary is so much better. No hype, just telling it as it is.
  8. Bogans they may be, Don, but they (at the moment) are bloody good at cricket. You must admit, that England have had their "Bogans" as well. The days of "gentlemen" and "Professionals" is long gone. Just seen your edit, Don. Well, we are talking Channel 9. but do remember that they have two Englishmen (Vaughan and Lloyd) who have been serving it large to the English team, especially in this test, most certainly today.. Got to admit, that I've not watched much up to today, what with other things going on. It does make the 3-0 loss earlier this year look as though it was closer than was thought.
  9. Sorry, TS, but what line has been crossed that hasn't been done so before? Please check some of the more recent ashes series before you reply. You might have to do some "Google" ing.
  10. You're begining to sound like the barmy army, signing the same song over and over and over again. No originality. It was OK twenty years ago, but the rest of the world has moved on...... We haven't "won" yet. your serve....
  11. Sorry Don, Can't agree with that at all. Warner wears his heart on his sleeve. He's the sort of "what you see is what you get" player. Who could blame him for giving Prior a serve after the display that Prior gave (I'd sack Prior after his display today). The "ugly" Australian approach has been as "ugly" as some of the recent England wins over the past few test series. Swings and roundabouts Don, swings and roundabouts.
  12. Winning the toss will be important as the temp is going to be in the high 30's for most of the test. BTW, Theno, you should come and have a look to really see how backward we are out here. I actually saw a neolithic version of Shakespeare's "Comedy Of Errors" last saturday at that decrepit building on the Harbour foreshore.
  13. Abbey, I've lived here for more than 2/3rds of my life, my kids are Australian. I wanted to integrate like you want many immigrants to integrate into British society. I haven't forgotten my heritage (as some would want you believe), but this is now my home. I ask you, how would England be, if all those immigrants had blended into the society the way the English wanted them to. Would you feel easier, would the nation feel easier? There comes a time where something like this has to be done. With me, it was shortly after the birth of my daughter in 1981 when, as it happens, Australia was in the pits (ashes speaking). This country has been incredibly kind to me. I'm paying it back (taxes notwithstanding and I do pay a lot)
  14. OK, show me an example, and I'll show you the same. It works both ways. It really does. I'd ask you not to take the british press for what they put out. Check the more balanced press, I'm sure you have some non Murdoch press there. If you want to check out a more balanced Australian view, then I'll give you www.abc.net.au/sport Jim Maxwell is a very knowledgable ABC cricket commentator, one whose knowledge way surpasses mine, and just tells it as it is
  15. TS, it's widely acknowledged that sledging from both sides in this test and others throughout the year has been going on. It was not just one side. If you think it was, I'd suggest that you take your rose tinted England specs off. As to the highlighted portion of your post, obviously someone, somewhere took it seriously by offering them. On a personal basis, I'd consider myself a Republican, and would do as a former PM of ours would do, and that is to politely decline. If you still don't understand, "Honours" like that are a joke. Anyway, on to the WACA, even more bounce. MJ's home pitch. Bring it on, and oh, may the best team win. All I want is to see good cricket.
  16. Tom, if you want to see the weather (and rain) in Adelaide, check out www.bom.gov.au/australia/radar and click on Adelaide. It should bring up the rain radar.
  17. TS, if you were being objective about Ashes tests, you'd probably agree that both sides are as bad as each other. England went OTT when winning after such a long time of being on the wrong end. Those OBE's (or whatever) were a little overdone. I mean, it's one series. It's a sport that the players get handsomely rewarded for. Additionally, your press went way over the top as they are prone to do, (they do it when they win, and double their efforts when they loose). England's Football team cop it both ways, don't they? Tom, I'm the bearer of bad news. That photo is at least two years old. It was taken before the redevelopment of the Adelaide oval. You can tell, because the covers over the stands, in the background, have been taken down.
  18. Tom, they've had about 2mm of rain overnight, according to the Bureau. Pitch would have been covered, plus the fact it's a newly laid ground, it will drain very quickly.
  19. Chris, 100% of the newspapers in Adelaide are Murdoch. They want to sensationalise everything. Years ago the Australian was a good newspaper (funnily enough) started up by Murdoch, but it has become a laughing stock and the leader of the pack against the ABC. Australian MSM is a joke. Anyway, back to the cricket.... signs of a fightback. I don't expect England to win, but at least they are trying.
  20. I can't accept that, Bryan. The've been a good side in the past. You don't win a series in India by being mediocre. Complacency? Maybe. Though they should have realised that the 3-0 win last English summer was a lot closer than 3-0. Age? three months shouldn't change a team that much. Maybe that Lehmann has found them out. So maybe you need an English coach (like a Botham) who can instill that patriotism that can make players work harder, respect their wicket that bit more (like Root did today).
  21. ....and that is different from the sports press reporting in England? I think not... oh, and the sports press reporting in Sydney is nothing short of... opinions of a reporter.... one wonders whether they went to the game. There are (and were) a few exceptions, Jim Maxwell (ABC) being one, and Peter Roebuck (deceased) was another.
