  1. I know you probably can't get any of these, but anything by Chris Lilly starting with " We Can Be Heroes" and finishing with "Angry Boys" Funny as hell, totally, yes "Totally" unPC. It is not suitable for Americans, full stop. Sorry guys, you just don't have that kind of sense of humour, as has been proven by some remarks on twitter.
  2. Anyone caught up on The Tedeschi Trucks Band and their latest release "Revelator" Excellent blues sound. Susan Tedeschi has a great voice.
  3. There's a few that are into Jazz. Just bought the Smithsonian Institutes Anthology of Jazz, six cd set enveloped in what is essentially a book. It details the history of the genre and gives detailed info about each track. For US$99, well worth the price for what is an invaluable history for those who like Jazz.
  4. Not sure about that, Kelbo. Matthews was a bigger bloke, so that might have made him look (to me) faster. having said that, I always felt that Dougie was a better footballer, even though he was in the shade of Matthews. BTW, that's a cracking photo of Ronnie, isn't it. BTW2, look at the Riverside, full, that wooden stand used to sound with everyone stamping their feet. The kids sitting over the wall, magic. I'm trying to remember if I was at that game. I've vague recollections of being at a Rovers v LFC and winning 2-1. BTW3, Theno, look how close the ref is to the play, about 12 yards at the most.
  5. Nah, Theno, they were that good they could get round defences without any problem, they knew the run, the timing and whether they were offside or not. I think Matthews had the edge on Dougie with his pace, but Dougie could mesmerise defenders with his dribbling; the ball seemed to be tied to his feet. The only way he could be stopped was by a foul.
  6. Is that Dougie waiting for the rebound? Memories.... Seen him play, but memories are now thin. A true footballer, one team, a true gent, is it true he never got sent off?
  7. That takes me back CLB. Whilst they didn't have much in the way of "exotic" pub food in those days, I did enjoy many a cleansing ale in many of the fine hostelries of that area.
  8. Yeah, it's a long way down, but it's not a bad place to have your abode. I'll bet he prefers it to Blackburn or Manchester
  9. Get the spices, get the recepies and cook it yourself. truly, it's not hard.
  10. Missed that, had the mouth watering. Love black puds, especially fried
  11. Sorry boys, I know this is not in your neck of the woods, but last saturday at Shipwrights at Tom Ugly's (yeah that's the name of the bridge there. If you want to google the restaurant , put Blakehurst after the restaurant name) I had the famous Sydney Rock Oysters, natural, of course. Mains was Barramundi fillet, all washed down with a bottle of NZ Marlborough region Sav Blanc. If you find these wines on your bottle shop shelves, try one, they are very very nice, the ladies lerve this stuff.
  12. From this: and this: the local turkey gets this: I'd leave it at saying Dwight was going to be the saviour at Ewood and getting that into print as the high point in your life, John.
  13. From here, I was always under the impression that Neill wanted to maximise his income so that he could get into team ownership here. How could he have "spurned" Liverpool, they didn't offer him what he wanted. They wanted him on their terms, he would go on his. The Spammers dangled a carrot, he took it, where's the problem? He did nothing wrong by the contract he had with the rovers, they had the chance to sell him earlier, they didn't. Where's the problem from Neill? Whether he bettered himself is debateable, but it was his choice, not unlike anyone choosing their employer.
  14. If anyone likes Blues, try C W Stoneking's "King Hokum" or "Jungle Blues". He's an American, brought up on an Aboriginal settlement. His parents were teachers at the local school during the 70's I believe. Got a good bluesy sound. The other one I like is Seasick Steve "Started out with nothin..."
  15. Well lads, I had a great "bush breakfast" the other day. 300 kms west of Cairns, in a place called Undarra. It was only bacon, eggs, beans, tomato, sausage etc on a metal plate washed down with bush coffee (done over an open fire). I even asked the cook where I should park the horse! If anyone ever gets over this way, it's a fabulous experience, a must do.
  16. How far do you guys travel to a reasonable restaurant?
  17. Was talking to a mate about betting on the horses. His idea is: take a place bet for 100 units (pounds/dollars whatever) on the favourite in the first race. If it returns 1.50, you've won 50 (pound/dollars), pocket the 100 and use the 50 to bet with for the rest of the day. If it doesn't place, then go home . I use 100 units to easily explain the theory, the return will be greater or lesser depending on the original amount bet.
  18. I used to listen to Pandora all the time. Great for selecting the style of music. It was supposed to be internal US only but by putting a US post code in it allowed you to set up a profile and listen. Now they do things based on ISP. They were going to licence the idea around the world but they haven't reached out this far yet.
  19. The Christmas present to the son was voucher for a 10 course degustation menu at Tetsuya's. Australia's only restaurant listed in the top 10 restaurants in the world. It's Japanese with French influences
  20. Philip, what's the cost to the community of stupid males not going to their doctor for ten years, and then being found with problems that could have been rectified in year one?
  21. At those prices it would want to be good. Very pricey and much more expensive that here.
  22. American, I trust that your "whooooosssshhhh" was due to the time difference Has anyone heard of Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu? An aboriginal guy, blind, and has the voice of an angel.
  23. Eddie, that's brilliant. They are a really great group. They need no backing instruments, they do it all themselves. If you get the chance, see them.
