  1. **slightly off topic**....a while back i went to 'an evening with Simon Garner' at the Hordens. One of the tales told that night was just after Steve Archibald had signed for the Rovers & they`d been playing away in London. Archibald had suggested a night out around the capital with his new team mates & proceeded to show Garner & co all the hotspots & night clubs. Archibald was flashing the cash, buying champagne etc & was constantly surrounded by a bevvy of beauties. Garner said he had a word with Steve, telling him they didn`t have a lot of money on them. "not to worry" said Archibald "....i`ll pay & you can treat me when you you show me the nightlife & sights of Blackburn" Simon relented & agreed that`s what they`d do. The next week Garner said they took him up Sutty`s :D ....he went on to say an oldish looking granny approached Steve & asked him who he was? "I`m Steve Archibald" he said. to which the woman replied "Never heard of you, but i`ll #### you off for a tenner!" ;)

    class.

  2. Former Liverpool & Republic of Ireland star Ray Houghton was on his radio show talking about 'how he`d only just made it to the studio in time'. He said he`d been playing in a charity golf tournament all day, in aid of a boy who was injured in a road accident. The tournament ran a bit late & he`d had to drive like a madman to get there on time. ;)

  3. Talk Sport have just been slagging off Wigan and Bolton for attracting just under 20,000 for the derby at the JJB today. "They are unfashionable sides and that's why...they can't attract 20,000 for a local derby" etc.

So it's not just Rovers getting stick...

20,000 crowd at the JJB isn`t bad....seeing as the game was at the Reebok!

  4. In hindsight, when Ewood was rebuilt, it should`ve been a 25k stadium, but alas Uncle jack had bigger plans for Rovers & in the mid 90s we regularly had 25k plus gates.

Football is suffering from over exposure, there`s simply too much of it on telly & there`s too many ways to watch it (ie...sky, dodgy satellite, pubs) For alot of people, the matchday excitement just isn`t there anymore.

Add to that strange kick-off times & live tv games & it`s bound to affect gates.

I`d welcome the change in camera angle from the JW to the Riverside tho.

  5. I was in a pub in Farnworth last night  & chatted to a couple of Notlobbers who frequent the place.

They love Fat Sam to bits, but admit it`s not sexy football.

I told them Bolton`s players are well drilled in falling, diving & feigning injury in a bid to knock the opposition (who-ever it is) out of their stride. They laughed & agreed.

I had to concede their travelling fans outsung the BBE though, but told them we always out-do them at theirs.

Although i hate Man Ure with a complete passion, i`m glad they thumped Notlob 4-0 today, as they hate Man Ure even more than us! :tu:

  6. I`m not sure it works like that.

....after all, if the roles were reversed & it was Rovers who were cr@pper than belief, i wouldn`t just 'up sticks' & go & support Preston, Burnley or Bolton. It`s just not done is it?

I don`t know how many 'floating' supporters are out there, maybe loads? but even if Rovers do attract more of these fans to Ewood.....they`re generally labelled 'glory hunters' or 'bandwagoners' by the people on here who like to shout about how much better a fan they are, how long they`ve had a season ticket or how many games they`ve been to. They`re onto a loser from day one, aren`t they?

I certainly wouldn`t pay good money to get ridiculed for having the cheek to be a new fan.

  7. 14,000+ to see the Champions at £15 + £5,a worthwhile venture for the club?...they must have 'made' a MASSIVE financial loss tonight.

How do you work that one out? I`m sure the club, like most other clubs see cup competitions as an 'extra' source of income when they plan their financial year, seeing as you`re never guaranteed a home tie.

Obviously the further you go in a cup comp the more money you`re likely to make, BUT i`m sure most clubs 'hope' for it rather than 'bank' on it.

With 2 games a week for the next 2 months, i see last night as alot lower on the priority list than it normally would be........& 14k gate wasn`t too bad in my view.

  8. I agree with alot of what Pestonwhite has said.

If there was no characters people loved to hate in the game (savage & spit for example) the game would be alot less colourful) For peole to make complaints to the police is plain pathetic.

If anything, Sundays defeat will have served a purpose, that being the building of a better more bitter rivalry between the Rovers & Bolton both on & off the pitch. You can almost guarantee a controversial game at the Reebok later this season. Hopefully next time Bolton will be on the end of a mugging & it`ll be the travelling Rovers fans celebrating.

    ;)

  9. Cletus & buddies were in the JW upper (towards the Darwen end)

The 1st 3rows of seats in the darwen end were left empty, probably for security reasons. The Blackburn end upper was empty at the top corners, but the rest of the ground (as we could see) looked pretty full.

I said to my mate (yes i do have one <_< ) I reckon about 28k on today.....so i wasn`t that far wrong.
