  1. Not about 'thick footballers' this, but on the same radio show (christian O`connel breakfast show...virgin radio) the DJ asks members of the public to get 'famous' people to ring the show up for a natter.

This morning he said "we`ve got Blackburn Rovers all time top scorer SIMON GARNER on the phone. this guy`s scored more goals than Alan Shearer for Blackburn".

Simon said just a few words, but Cletus txt`d the show to say how impressed he was that they`d had the 'living legend' that is Simon Garner on his show. My txt got read out anole! ;)

  2. Listening to an interview with Neil 'Razor' Ruddock on Virgin radio this morning, he commented on ex-roverite Jason McAteer being "the thickest footballer i`ve ever known".

When asked by Christian O`Connel (the dj bloke) to give an example, he went on to tell a story of when they were at Liverpool & in a hotel before an away game at Villa. Razor said McAteer was busy filling in a creditcard application form....after putting his name, address & occupation (pro footballer) he asked Razor if he should put "right back" or "midfielder" as he`d played both roles recently. Razor asked "why? what does the question say?"

McAteer said "well it`s asking for 'position in company?'

  3. Some of them were certainly not born in France although most grew up there and came through the French system

I read an article somewhere (ages ago) about the French system. I think it was gerrard houlier who helped set up an elite 'skills' project with alot of up & coming French kids. Some of France`s top pro came from there.

Maybe the FA should hire Houlier & ask him to set-up something similar?

  4. Went to see Embrace at the Apollo last Friday night (13th) First gig in ages. Thought Embrace were ok but nothing special. They played well, but the singer (in my opinion) is poor. His voice just doesn`t come across well & they played what seemed like a couple of keys lower than on their albums. Maybe this is to help save his voice when on tour....but i still don`t like it. I think U2 have adopted the same policy of playing in a lower key. :(

On a brighter note, the support band was Delays who sounded fresh (if not a tad girlie) but had great 4 part harmony vocals. They impressed me more than the headline act.

I too am awaiting the 10th Nov with baited breath! :tu:

...plus also, Snow Patrol are doing an extra Christmas show at the GMex....Mankyster. Tickets go on sale Friday morning. I`m setting my alarm for that one ;)

  5. Ronin..."McLaren get the players to play as they do week in week out, England might actually start to play a little bit better then. Adopt a system and use the best players that play those positions, rather than keeping the same players but play them out of position in new formations etc."

I think Martin O`Neil would get the England team to play like a club side with every player knowing his job. He`d get them playing a very 'up & at em' & 'in your face' high tempo British style.

He also wouldn`t be afraid to drop big names for players who`d more suit his style of play.

On a different note, i must congratulate the advertisers of the new Borat movie for the excellent world-wide coverage of their new film. Global advertising like that would normally cost millions! :tu:

  6. LeChuck...."I'd be suprised if the extra bums on seats total for the next Premiership game made it into double figures from this.

...Well, i`ve bought 4 tickets for the Notlob game, when usually i wouldn`t have bought any....so only six more tickets have to be sold to suprise you. ;)

(p.s...i`ll also be taking up the 2 £15 european home games offer aswell...that`s another 6/8 tickets.)

  7. Gotta say England are not a world class team, they are an average team & have been since 1966.

When are they going to realise this?

The Scots, Welsh & Irish are all average teams aswell, but the difference is they know it. England think they are a big boy in world football....they aren`t.

Everybody aspires to win any tournament they enter, but England & it`s 5hit media EXPECT to win...there is a huge difference.

Players like Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney are good players BUT on an international level they are far from great.

Brian Clough was the best manager England never had & i suspect the same will be said of Martin O`Neil in future years. :(

  8. Yet again i doff my cap to the 'powers that be' at Ewood Park. :tu:

It is so refreshing to see they are listening to the fans of BRFC :brfc:

It takes courage to stand up & start something & i`m proud of the fact my club Blackburn Rovers are taking the lead & confronting the worrying decline in attendances in football these days.

I predict many other clubs in a similar situation are watching with great interest & may follow suit if this great gamble starts to pay dividends.

BLACKBURN ROVERS....THE CLUB THAT SAVED FOOTBALL!! ;)

  9. Got my 4 tickets for the Notlob match yesterday afternoon & was served by the tasty blond (mentioned on another thread on here somewhere ;) ) I asked 'Tasty' how tickets sales were going & she said "steady, but they expect it to pick-up over the next few days, as there is a lot of different games to contend with at the moment...i.e european, cup & league"

I tried to keep her talking, but i think she soon realised i was just oggling her....& a queue was forming! :D

  10. I don't know about anyone else, but this is simply not true for me.

Playing the Dingles is about as tense or buzzing as it gets. Everything at stake - years of bragging rights, local pride etc. We play Bolton every year, and what with their unbelievably shyte football and our unbelievably shyte attendances, this is going to be far from a 'Lancashire Hotpot'. Let's just hope the attendances part improves.

OK. Maybe i was going a little 'over the top' . I agree nothing matches the run up to a Dingle match, but the announcement of this £15 game has certainly got people talking where i live/work/drink.
