Can't see it improving the attendance of Rovers fans. Midday kick off, two mid table teams who have nothing to play for and the cheapest ticket is £24.

I've never known a set of fans who can find an excuse not to attend a football game. It's pathetic.

Outstanding performance. The first 20-25 minutes was a good as any I’ve seen from Rovers in a long time.

Evans was my man of the match. I cannot advance anything that hasn’t already been said. Underated player.

I’ve read through all the posts - I’ve seen a couple of posters criticise Graham?!! That’s beyond comprehension! Alex James covered the game for the Lancs telegraph in place of Rich Sharp who is on holiday. To quote Alex James in the match report - “Danny Graham produced a lone striker masterclass, holding off Hull defenders as if they were smaller children in the playground.”  I couldn’t have put it any better.

I’ve also read a couple saying Dack was poor. Dack started off like a man possessed, he was everywhere in the first 20-25 minutes, this rubbed off on the team and consequently the game was won. Even if things don’t quite come off for him, when he is running around like that being a constant nuisance for their defence he is still our most important player.

Mowbray should be nailed on January manager of the month with 100% record and 3 clean sheets.

30 years ago we got into the play offs with Garner and Gayle at the helm. No reason why we can’t do the same this season with Dack and Graham leading the way!

I work with Gayles son.  Big liverpool  fan

It’s funny you say this. Yesterday before the game I was thinking the opposite - that he looks like a loner surrounded by a team.

Right now he is in the shop window and needs a club at the end of the season. Two key moments before we can say Mowbray has tamed him. What happens when Mulgrew is fit? Where does he go at the end of the season?

What Mowbray does seem to excel at is the environment and culture he encourages. He’s said in the past that he lets the senior players have a big say in things, which will help with that. He places great importance on the character of players that he brings in. Maybe this is part of why he buys British. It’s also more likely to keep the ‘group’ as an 18 or 20 rather than three or four smaller cliques. But I does mean that we will miss out on some great opportunities to bring in quality at the right price for our budget.

Quiz question: Mowbray has bought almost exclusively English, plus a Scot (Caddis) and a Northern Irish (Lyons). He has only brought in two none UK players, name them and their nationality - without google...

I know what you're saying but Tugay was a genuine world class player not far off the likes of Pirlo and Scholes. Mulgrews got good technical ability, but he's absolutely no where near the likes of them.

Most crucially he's slow on the turn, as if you not blessed with pace you can mitigate that with turning neatly away from danger. Tugay was absolutely exceptional at that. I think Mulgrew would get caught with the ball a lot in midfield.

Tugay is my favourite player in a rovers shirt

That said I'm embarrassed to admit i remember thinking don't offer him a contract cause he's lost his legs. Surely he will be a liability.  About 5 years before he actually left.

Some players don't need pace. Especially if they  never had it. They think several steps ahead of the play.

Mulgrew is quicker imo in a straight foot race but receiving the ball on the turn and creating a yard he's light years behind tugay.

I'd still pay to watch him play.

I think you've covered all bases there.

I'd imagine there has to be a budget though, and I'd imagine Mowbray has no choice but to work within it. Not sure what point you're making?

There doesn't have to be a budget thou does there. Spent close to 10 million on arma and brereton plus every major player given new and I presume more lucrative contracts.

Our crowd ain't paying for that is it.

A  list of players where suggested.  None was a massive upgrade. One we just got rid of who was poor and couldn't get in our side.

I'm sure the manager has targets and is working towards that. And I believe if he doesn't sign anyone it ain't because he thinks he can't improve it.

I would have taken Collins and Holgate for sure.

If it was an option your entitled to that opinion. My point is we don't no it was. We don't no the budget.

One thing I do know is that the manager wants to win and improve the squad. How he does that is up to him and the board.

Whether it's improving Travis. Bell. Nuttall. Nyambe etc or spending money he's earnt that right for a free ride off me.

Going up this season would absolutely be the best thing going forward and to suggest otherwise is ludicrous.

The money alone would give us a massive advantage to come back up if we where relegated , not to mention the better quality players we could attract playing in the premier league as well as retaining our better ones.

And that's assuming we did get relegated

No one would say otherwise I'm sure

It was intended to prove that it is far from impossible to improve a Championship side in the January window.

For what its worth I feel that the majority of signings on that list would improve us. One or two are blatantly unrealistic (Casilla a prime example) but quite a few would have definitely been welcome additions.

I suspect any budget may be minimal due to the Brereton deal.

I think it's obvious there will be signings in January.  But we can't sign every player every time. I'm happy with how things are going personally.

Bell will improve like nyambe did. He's all the raw ingredients I just hope he has the correct mentality.

Travis is like having a new player. Aother academy product.

Rodwell has stepped up great in the last 2 games  with our depleted defence. 2 clean sheets

Roswell doesn't even get into the team. An exciting player who I rate highly.

Nuttall has come out the cold and been a pleasant boost at just the right time.

Throw into the mix of the old guard. That have played with pride the last two years and deserve their place at this club. Where six points off the play offs.

I just hope the fans start turning up more. Not much more than 12k home fans on today.

Yes. Villa have spent 7m on a Croatian international keeper in Lovre Kalinic and Leeds have brought in Real Madrid sub keeper Kiko Casilla, 2 teams that desperately needed improvement in that position.

Boro have signed Rajiv Van La Parra on loan, a proven quick winger at this level, and Millwall have signed Ben Marshall, 2 wingers with proven track records in a position we need that I would have liked to see sign here.

Ipswichs signings have been hit and miss with crap like Keane, Elder and Dawkins, but also James Collins, Alan Judge and Colin Quaner, 3 players who undoubtedly improve the spine of their team, albeit with the rest of the team its pissing in the wind.

Bristol City have signed Kasey Palmer on loan who has had an impact straight away there, gettin g the winner last weekend.

Preston were desperately in need of bodies, 2 of their new signings in Potts and Stockley had a big impact in a very impressive win today. 2 very impressive players in the lower leagues.

Sheffield United have added Dowell from Everton and Gary Madine to give them more attacking options in their promotion push.

Wigan have signed Anthony Pilkington who was crucial in their win v Villa last week, and West Broms signing of Holgate is a very shrewd one.

Of course its always difficult to sign the right players, January is a particularly difficult month. But that is no excuse, I've given plenty of proof that potential improvements ARE out there and we CAN improve the squad if we have the finance and also if Mowbray is shrewd enough.

I suspect that spending 7m on one player who has started one league game and has yet to score is always going to cause major strain on the budget. Maybe the pot is dry.

We need at least a left back and a winger to come in. Theres a squad with a core of vital experience and a growing pocket of talented younger players supplementing them, but there is weakness within the side that needs addressing for us to really kick on.

Fair play you spent ages on that post.  Wouldn't take one of them.

I'll trust mowbray to work within the budget he's given. A budget no one on here knows. Or even if there is one.

  10. I really don't like picking out individuals for critism but he has been woeful. I want him to get games so he can do something positive. Anything. But he looks dreadful.

Can't dribble, never looks in control of the ball.

Can't control the ball when it's played into him.

Isn't quick enough for running in behind.

Shys away from challenging for headers and flick ons.

Really hope it turns around for the guy. He's a young lad but I just don't see how Tony is going to use him.

  11. Best player I seen at rovers to this day.  First season ticket in 2000. Hope to see that quality in a blue and white shirt one day.

I live in dunfermline. My neighbour is a teddy bear also. He has a big photo frame of 2 cans of mckewans lager but one with a rangers badge  and the other with a rovers badge on it. With the title blue brothers.

Hopefully this season will buck this depressing trend James. Tell you one thing though Jimmy. Its never dull being Leeds. I cant imagine following a dull boring tredding water club ? Could you ?

Can't really separate the two regarding the last 20 years.

Certainly following rovers last 8 years has been anything but boring. 6 years of being on a downward spiral as the club imploded in front of our eyes. BORING. I wish it was.

    Both clubs sold to loonies.

Both been on a rollercoaster ride.

More frustration than success. Especially leeds. Given we have two trophies in the bag since your last one. And more seasons in the premiership.

Unless your implying because you get 20k more fans through the gate that somehow negatively effects how we can feel about rovers.

Personally I feel leeds as a one club city. The attendances are average at best

  13. 18 month ago I would of been seriously miffed at this. But he has won me over. Been pleasantly surprised with his simple way he keeps things ticking over in the middle. Is always hassling but for a supposed defensive midfielder he is pretty weak in tackles. If he keeps up his last q8 months level going forward I would be happy.

Not gonna win us any games. Or even score. But I can appreciate his game.
